Yesterday evening something disagreed with my gut, so I am conducting two kinds of worship at the porcelain throne. Therefore I am limiting today to this Open Thread. I’m current with replies. however briefly. These stomach bugs rarely last more than a day, so I should be back tomorrow.

No such luck.
Lakes are half full and mountain snows are thin, omens of another summer of drought and wildfire. Complicating matters, many of the worst-hit states have even less water on hand than a year ago, raising the specter of shortages and rationing that could inflict another year of losses on struggling farms.

From WTRF: Jane Orie was sentenced last year to up to 10 years for using her state-paid staff to run her campaigns. Joan Orie Melvin and Janine Orie were convicted this week in a spinoff of similarly misusing Melvin’s former staff and the senator’s.
The Republican Orie sisters have argued the prosecution is the result of a political vendetta by a Democratic prosecutor in Pittsburgh who has repeatedly denied ulterior motives.
Republicans steal elections, because they can’t win otherwise.

Poor TomCat! Yet another bug sent to try you! If necessary there are doubtless recipes on the net to make up a solution of honey/sugar and salt (preferably unpurified salt which has up to 80 minerals in trace [but useful] amounts) and hot water, to rehydrate the body and keep it going. I do hope you get better soon – keep drinking fluids!

NY Times — And the Republican/Teabaggers STILL insist that there is no such thing as climate change! Aren't many of those states affected red states? The GOP truly doesn't give a damn about its constituents! I think their brains have been fried by the effects of extreme drought and heat!
WTRF — Hmmm. . . I seem to recall some similar shenanigans in Wisconsin with a female assistant to Scott Walker when he was in Milwaukee (prior to being the governor). The state should add theft to the charges.

I haven't done the puzzle yet. I just made a quick comment when I saw TomCat's time. Kind of like now. And TomCat, I think we all will allow you to deduct "barf time" from your puzzle time.
Jerry, when the break ocurred, I was almost done, but I had no idea what the time was. The only way to eliminate the break would have been to stat over, and knowing what went where would have given me an unfair advantage,

w/r guns and women….I think only women should be allowed to have guns and they should have safety devices (if possible) so they can only be fired by the woman owner………..when women are being harrassed (spelling?) or threatened by any man then they can go ahead and shoot and ask questions later just like the NRA proposes.
