Yesterday, it was calm again. I’m beginning to be able to tell how much I overdid the previous day by how much my back hurts when I get up. It was worse yeatersay (after bringing in groceries) than the previous two days, but nothing compared to how it felt the day after I saw Virgil. On the whole, the back is improving, though, which is nice.

Black parents say movement to ban critical race theory is ruining their children’s education
Quote – “This is a way for them to stop, or try to prevent the schools from actually teaching, and practicing, equity, diversity and inclusion across the schools,” Hutchsinon said. “I hear a lot of White mothers say they think their child is too young to learn about racism. You know what, my child’s not too young to experience it.”
Click through for story. It’s so obvious, isn’t it? If white children can have their snowflake fee-fees hurt be learning the truth about white history, what does that imply for black children who are systematically prevented from learning anything black history? So obvious. But apparently it needs to be said (and very loudly.)
Daily Kos (keefknight) – Cartoon: Black Mugshots
Quote – I’m going to screw the algorithm. Black people, post and sent s pic of yourself drinking out of your favorite mug. Non-Black people: Post and sentd a pic of yourself with a black mug.
Click through for cartoon and for comments. I love this idea. Photos can be uploaded at www.blackmugshots.com if you are interested. The hashtag is #blackmugshot.
HuffPost – Parents Of Oxford High School Shooting Suspect Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter
Quote – “While the shooter was the one who entered the high school and pulled the trigger, there were other individuals who contributed, and it’s my intention to hold them accountable as well,” McDonald said. “Gun ownership is a right, and with that right comes great responsibility.”
Click through for details. I think we can all agree it’s terribly sad that this is necessary – but, since apparently it is, I for one am glad to see it. (Glenn says the same and more, but that won’t post until tomorrow’s Video Thread.)

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
So sorry to read that your back is bothering you…relieved to read that it is lessening w/the pain.
Cartoon: What a great day for them!
CNN: Students should be able to learn the history of their race and their history. Parents should be allowed to back up Black History Month with their children or student, and discuss in an open forum. It should be a learning experience, not only for their students,…but for themselves. imho.
HP: Another heartbreaking tragedy. I am relieved to read that the parents are being held responsible for the horrible actions of their son. I feel so bad about this, that this should never happened. Again!!
FFT: Oh! ICK !
This just in: “”Which of these alternatives sounds more radical to you — abolishing the filibuster to save our democracy, or destroying our democracy to save the filibuster?” ~ Robert Reich ~ H/T Joanne D. ~
2. “Right now, there’s a bill in the Senate that would write Roe vs. Wade into law. Pass the Women’s Health Protection Act.” ~ Senator Amy Klobuchar ~
3. “Every Republican that denies anything about January 6th was likely a part of planning it.” ~ Janet Valcho ~
4. “Someone who’s got enough extra cash lying around to blast himself into outer space can afford to pay a little more in taxes to give everyone else a chance here on earth.” ~ Senator Elizabeth Warren ~
5. “Texas ranks 46th in the nation for student reading proficiency. It shouldn’t surprise us that 70% of 4th graders can’t read at grade level when we rank in the bottom 10 states for school funding, behind the national average by $4000 per student. It’s time to invest in our kids!” ~ Beto O’Rourke ~
TJI #1 – Should be an easy one ….
TJI #2 – I can see it passing the House –
TJI #3 – File under “No Shit, Sherlock.”
TJI #4 – Also file there.
TJI #5 – Of course that is by design. Republicans in government (and out of it) wany to keep kids ignorant ans semi-literate so they can be more easily controlled. I don’t suppose it would be smart for Beto to say that, though.
JD, hope you feel better soon. Can you take something for pain/discomfort? Cartoon: Great. CRT: Excellent point, doesn’t seem to be any minimum age to experience racism, sadly. Sure are a lot of insecure, threatened white “snowflakes”! Black mugshots: Saw this earlier,LOL! Hope they get lots of ’em. HS shooting: TJI: The parents have both been before the judge this AM,plead NOT GUILTY. They were hiding in a warehouse! FFT: Yep, see Kyle R.’s mom, etc. When I got my COVID booster Thurs. I had to see a car in parking lot w/”tRUMP2024″ sticker plus lots of pro-gun ones. Don’t want MI to outdo OH in senseless violence as well as college football. SMH #5—Go, Beto! Stay safe, all.
Thanks, Spy. An hour in the morning with my TENS unit takes care of it for the day even when it’s at its worst. (It also serves as a cooking timer for my breakfast LOL.) Two days tis week I didn’t even need it, so I had to watch the clock so as not to burn anything. I think a lot of it is just age, and the rest it posture, holding myself in various positions to feel comfortable with the stuff I don’t even notice. The TENS is inexpensive and reliable – I have over the years managed to wear out two, so I keep spares on hand.
Cartoon: Truly a wonderful day to remember and celebrate.
CNN: I agree with these parents 100%. Sick of these idiots out there who are trying to change and hide the facts of past history.
DK: Crazy
HP: I was happy to hear this morning that they were found and arrested. With all of the information the FBI and other investigators have found regarding what they wrote to their son regarding buying the gun, going to practice with him, etc. they should be prosecuted. In my eyes, they were helping him fully.
Food for Thought: Definitely NO! Not in our lifetime.
Sorry to hear about your back Joanne. Happy to read above that you use your TENS unit to help. Hope it continues getting better quickly.
Take care. Thanks Joanne
Improvement is good.’Toon: A Good Greek Letter Day!CNN: Of course! Frederick Douglas anyone? It’s only white folks history that is taught, with the associated mythology. If white parents are afraid that their little ones’ feelings will be hurt by the teaching of the truth, then they ought to militate for teaching that truth, along with reinforcing, for those children, that the damage done, over the centuries of American history is not the kids’ fault; put it in its proper context, but lay blame, not excuses.DK: I love it!HP: Yes! I saw this the other day, and thought it was righton!FFT: The only thing the GQP is the party of is “More power to US!”MitchP.S.: My wife may have been exposed to CoVid, this past Tuesday, and while we are JUST FINE, we went for testing this morning.
No, Mitch has’t gotten access back. My login expired and I just took advantage of it to post his comment in his name before logging back in.
Have you tried deleting Mitch’s accounts (I understand there were several due to Mitch making typos in his name) and giving him a new one? I doubt it will work though, I understand he can’t get access to the site at all.
You are right, he cannot get access to the site at all. For him to read it I have to email it to him (easier than it sounds except for the Video Thread, which can be a pain becausse all the URLS must be put i one at a time.)
Only You and I, Nameless, Lynn, Freya, Colleen, and WWWendy have logins at all now. Everyone else needs to enter their name and email each time they comment … and one letter or number wrong or omitted or doubled will cause the site not to recognize him, So, yes, he’s commented under several spellings, but I’d hesitate to call them “accounts.”
I’m sorry to hear about your back pain, Joanne, but it is good to hear it is getting a bit better.
CNN: The whole discourse is utterly ridiculous. For the previous 4-5 years Republicans have labelled all Democrats as snowflakes whenever they protested against the shameful behaviour and language TFG and the GQP were displaying towards them or in fact anyone else and told liberals to get over it. And they are still doing it today with regard to the Jan 6 attack. But when schools want to teach history as it happened, including slavery, suddenly the Republican delicate little white children might get hurt when they learn some truths. They might be traumatised, even. These parents have no idea how incredibly racist it is to try and protect their little white lilies from learning something that black children are up against every day. They also have no inkling that by doing so they are admitting to knowing how entirely horrendous slavery was. If it was all as hunky-dory as they want to pretend it was, their children wouldn’t be “traumatised” by learning about it, would they? They can’t have their cake and eat it too.
DK: What a brilliant idea. A lot of people have responded but most of them seem to be white. That could be because Daily Kos is read more often by white people than black people.
HP: Both parents have been arrested and are detained in the same jail, but in different cells. Apparently, the kid, i.e. shootist, has not yet been told his parents are under arrest too.
FFT: These Democratic Underground posters are really good!
I didn’t look to see whether Keith had cross=posted it to the #BlackKos group If he didn’t, that might be part of the problem. But even if he isn’t syndicated, he does have a wider audience that Daily Kos. I haven’t looked at the website yet either. It is a bit academic for me, since I wouldn’t have the faintest idea how to take a selfie, but I do want to get there eventually.
