Yesterday, thankfully, it was quiet again. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day, and I am hoping to be able to fill this thread with stories to be thankful for. I’m less confident about being able to do that for the Video Thread, but I can certainly try.

Short Takes –

Daily Kos (Darrell Lucus) – Bottom-feeder in Arkansas put an Apple AirTag on a woman’s car
Quote – Apple introduced the AirTag in April, billing it as a way to help users find lost keys, bags, clothes and electronic devices as well as lost cars. If you have an iPhone, you can use the “Find My” utility to find any item where you’ve placed an AirTag. But Washington Post tech columnist Geoffrey Fowler discovered in May that it’s also an all-too-handy tool for stalking. As part of an experiment not long after the AirTag rolled out, fellow reporter Jonathan Baran put an AirTag into Fowler’s bag.

Politizoom – Trump Can’t Walk Down A Ramp But He Just Got A Black Belt
Quote – Well, look at it this way: he didn’t have to pay anybody to cheat on a test, right? They just gave it to him. And it’s an award that actually exists, unlike Michigan Man Of The Year. So there’s some improvement there, right? I mean, when you’re talking about Trump you need to look for the silver lining any freaking place you can possibly find it. Even if somebody just overturned liquid mercury in the pop corn popper and now everybody’s going to get sick and die, hey, at least it’s silver, right? Right.
Click through – may as well – heaven knows I have no words.

Politico – Capitol riot suspect’s court hearing turns to potential criminal charge for Trump
Quote – Nichols made no specific mention of Trump, who appointed him to the bench, but the then-president was publicly and privately pressuring Pence in the days before the fateful Jan. 6 tally to decline to certify Joe Biden’s victory. Trump also enlisted other allies, including attorney John Eastman, to lean on Pence.
Click through for discussion. Politico is not the most progressive tool in the shed, and in this case, that appears to me to give even more significanece to this article.

  1. Cartoon: Of course the R’s did…and continue to this day.
DK: Yikes! I didn’t know about this. Definitely a must-read, and passing this on to family too.
Politico: TOT is guilty of many misdeeds, imho. His blatant disregard of the Rule of Law, his disrespect and attacks to others while serving as President, to name a couple. He only cares about himself, and what he can get out of a situation to his advantage.
    Cartoon: Yep.
    *Almost done w/

This just in: “Who else agrees: Stephen Colbert on Rittenhouse verdict: ‘If he didn’t break the law, we should change the law’. ~ Political Poet ~
    2. “Trump wants full credit for the economy he inherited and zero blame for the pandemic he ignored.”

    3. “Did Trump pardon any turkeys during his presidency?” “Yes, he did. Rod Blagojevich and Joe Arpario to name a few.” ~ Tim Kodi ~

    5. “Your reminder that after OJ Simpson was found ‘not guilty’, the victim’s families sued the ‘fk’ out of him in civil court and ruined him financially. So there’s that.” ~ Jeff Tiedrich ~
    6. “I’m looking at you, supposed Christians, in your obstinate refusal to wear a mask or get vaccinated or make the smallest of sacrifices to keep people from getting sick and dying—and I’m wondering just what Jesus you’re telling me you follow.  ~ John Pavlovitz  ~

    • Hope that y’all enjoy the day tomorrow.

      Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! 23

    • TJI #1 – Remember the judge dismissed the weapons charge – I don’t (and apparently he didn’t) see any way not to find him guilty on that one. And as far as the homicide charges go, I’m not sure about this, but I gathered that Wisconsin law is even more broad than most self-defense provisions – basically, it’s virtually impossible to prove something as not self defense. So, yeah, that needs changing. But all self-defense definitions tend to favor the killer. And I’m not sure how to rewrite them so they are actually fair.
      TJI #2 – Yup.
TJI #3 – True that. And mostly jive turkeys at that.
TJI #4 – She has been incredibly important in this fight, not only helping to write it, but also in promoting it and in working to make sure that compromises did not take any provisions out completely. Some had to be altered to be for shorter time periods.
      TJI #5 – Good thinking.
TJI #6 – Wonder no longer. It’s White Republican Supply-Side Jesus. Pretty much the opposite of the real one.

  2. Comment from Mitch –

Toon: Sorry, but it was 1859, not ’69.DK: More crap to worry about!
Polit’m: Is he even capable of putting on his own belt?  My youngest son got a black belt in TKD, years ago, after much training and effort!  Dumpy does phot-ops, little more.
Politico: Mens rea, indeed!!!!!!!  Dumpty has made a career of skirting the law, and all of his history indicates that he knew full well that
urging Pence as he did was illegal.  Eastman’s memo, like much of what Barr did, as AG, served just to give him cover.
FFT: Infected Anti-Vaxxers, like Jim Jordan was?  Screw e’m!
    Mitch

    • YAY!!!
      AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!

    • Hallelujah!!!

I saw a video of the judge reading the verdict for all 3 and although there were no tears as such, clearly the defendants were not happy.  Now the penalty phase and the circus of appeals.  I disagree with the death penalty and I don’t know if that is even on the table.  The judge seemed far superior to the Rittenhouse judge.

    • I also say “Hallelujah”.
This morning when the breaking news come one, I was praying that the jurors found the three Guilty. Thanks God they did. Justice was served.

    • The very sick puppy apparently had a good night. That doesn’t mean it’s going to make it, though.

      • True.  Its foster parents (those of us who are sane, and soe more than others) worked very hard to get it through this night.  And more work is needed.  It’s really all up to us.

  3. Well it is now 4 weeks post surgery and I am still swollen, sore and itchy.  I still can’t use my right hand for much except hitch-hiking.  I am doing my exercises every day but I can’t seem to get my wrist to bend.  I see the surgeon 06/12 again and will have more x-rays.  And I won’t even mention my total lack of strength.  My neighbour is still opening bottles etc for me thankfully, and another takes the garbage (mostly cat litter) to the dumpster for me.  I truly am blessed with the support I am getting from friends!

Take care everyone and stay safe!

    • Oh dear – that doesn’t sound at all good – well, except the parts about the good   Thank you for kkeping us updated.  We do care!friends and the doctor’s appointment coming up.  I hope the doctor can help.

    • Hi Lynn. Sorry to hear that you’re not able to move your hand. Can’t you ask to see the surgeon sooner? Or at least call and ask if what you’re experiencing is normal?  Glad that you have your neighbor and friends to assist you. I hope you get to feeling better soon. You’re included in daily prayers. Hope you have a nice Thanksgiving. Keep us posted. Take care too.

    • Good to hear from you, Lynn. But I wish the news on your recovery was better. I hope you’re visit to the doctor will speed up the healing and rehabilitation soon.

Are you in danger of floods, BTW?

    • I’m with Colleen on talking to someone now where they might advise things to bring the swelling down and/or minimize the formation of adhesions that could prevent/limit movement.  Keeping you in my prayers.

  4. Cartoon: You can’t devolve if you never evolved.

DK: It’s the way of the world since mankind invented things; weeks after a new and usually innocent and useful new product comes to market, bottomfeeders find a way to abuse it and put people at risk.

PZ: They awarded TFG with the honorary ninth-dan black belt, which isn’t achievable through hard training and many years of practice for mortal souls; undoubtedly invented by the American branch of Taekwondo for their business relations. Utterly worthless but a boost for TFG’s spirits, after they found a black belt long enough for his girth, that is.

Politico: I’ll wait with getting exited until TFG is formally charged.

FFT: I fail to see why there are just as many cards to choose from for anti-vaxxers. Hard-to-have sympathy only goes so far.

    • You can move backward from your ancestors.  I think that’s what TC meant.

But that card for anti-vaxxers are so much more fun to write than the actual sympathy cards, to write which one must have a heart.

  5. I’m running late tonight. My son and his wife came to visit and took me to dinner for my birthday this evening. I had a nice time with them. I haven’t seen my son for close to 18 months. They’re here for about a week.
Hope you had a good day. Take care.
    Thanks Joanne

  6. I meant to attach this as a reply to Lona but I goofed. I think however this might be of interest to everyone. The links at the end give you an idea of just what is happening.

Metro Vancouver is cut off from the rest of Canada because of flooded highways (including the Trans Canada Hwy), mudslides and wiped out rail lines.  Thankfully Metro does not have any flooding but the Fraser Valley, a prime farming area not far away has a lot of flooding.  I saw a picture of a large cattle barn with almost 3 metres of water on the outside.  The losses of cattle, chickens and other livestock are massive.  The loss of human lives was 4 in a mudslide the last I heard.  Whole towns were evacuated in several places.  Devastating forest fires last summer and now flooding caused by an atmospheric river.  We are poised for another atmospheric river starting tomorrow but reports say it should not be as bad. This is being described as a once in 500 years extreme weather event.

Global National: Nov. 17, 2021 | BC declares state of emergency amid flooding disaster – Bing video

    • Once in 500 years would sound reassuring, were it not that none must add “and probably the new normal.”  I am so sorry  And the livestock – that hurts.  Killing ourselves is one thing, but taking innocent beasts with us – even sacrificing them to save our own lives – is something else entirely.

  7. Lynn;  Sure hope that your hand heals with prayers for a quick recovery…and that the weather abates for you.

Colleen: Happy Belated Birthday! Hope that you enjoyed your day.

Happy Thanksgiving, Sweet! Ladies…enjoy your day!  20  35
