Yesterday, after a couple of overcast days, the sun came out … and so did the wind. There’s a NSFW quip about why it’s so windey here – it’s because Utah blows and Kansas – mphmmm.

Mother Jones – I Played This Climate Change Game—and Lost Everything
Quote – [F]acts about humanitarian crises averted can feel abstract unless you face them, or at the very minimum role-play as someone who must confront them. I did so myself. And I lost my beans. Paying for Predictions is an experiential learning game designed for the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre by Boston University visiting fellows Pablo Suárez and Janot Mendler de Suárez. Players can gain an appreciation for the importance of preparedness and early action, the use of weather and climate projections, and disaster resilience and climate risk reduction.

Democratic Underground – Remember Sen Grassley’s tweet about filling in for Pence?
Quote – Remember Sen Grassley’s tweet about filling in for Pence? Grassley tweeted Jan 5 that he’d be filling in for Pence during certification of electors since Pence was not expected to be there. His office quickly announced that he meant IF Pence wasn’t able to be there, but I wonder if the first version wasn’t more accurate. Could that be how they planned to get around Pence’s refusal to cooperate? Just have him taken somewhere else for a while? Sounds crazy, but then recall the story that came out about Pence not leaving the Capitol that day because he didn’t trust the driver?
Click through for speculation and comments. Yes, it’s speculative, but sometimes putting small things together can lead to big questions. Now if we only had answers.
HuffPost – 2020 Had The Most Reported Hate Crimes Since 2001: FBI Data
Quote – The FBI’s 2020 data came from 15,138 law enforcement agencies around the country. Roughly half of all hate crime incidents reported were classified as intimidation, 27% were simple assault and nearly 18% were aggravated assault (which the FBI defines as “physical attacks intended to inflict severe or aggravated bodily injury”).
Click through for more stats. It’s not hard to see why. Mr. China-virus-illegal-immigrants-not-sending-their-best no doubt had something to do with it.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
We had a heck of a rainstorm, this a.m., with gusting winds. I think it’s done, and the cold front has moved in.
Cartoon: So sad.
MJ: We need to be made aware of the changes in the environment, with the global warming, and work to make it a better place to live for us, and our future generations on this earth. Good article, btw.
DU: A good speculation there, what with all that was going on that horrible day…
HuffPo: Hate is alive and well all over…and it’s so sad that this is still going on.
FFT: Yikes!!!

TJI #1 – Good for @CWRU1stAmClinic!
TJI #2 – And that’s the truth!
TJI #3 – And John Deere says, “Yes. Deal with it.”;
TJI #4 – I believe the last count I saw was over 450 bills in 49 states. Clearly there are some states which won’t pass any, but that’s not the point. We can’t afford even one to be in effect.
TJI #5 – Succinct and accurate. The mailing address for the Department of Justice is 950 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC 20530-0001. Phone (Comment Line) 202-353-1555 (800-877-8339). TJI #6 – Well said.
I Played This Climate Change Game—and Lost Everything
This is where we need to focus on our children and their children and their children’s children, because for the most part we oldsters will probably escape the most dire consequences of our climate profligacy.
(But where is the game he alludes to? I didn’t find it.)
Remember Sen Grassley’s tweet about filling in for Pence?
Not to get all nit-picky, but it wasn’t a Tweet – it was during a phone call:
I’d prefer it were a Tweet, because that would be a permanent record. I have no idea of the Register records every phone call or not.
But what I’d like to know is how does “we don’t expect …” morph into his aide’s “clarification” that Grassley “has every expectation that the Vice President will be present on the hill Wednesday”?
Spin like that would make anyone dizzy.
2020 Had The Most Reported Hate Crimes Since 2001: FBI Data
Hopefully, now with TFG spending time at Moron-Lardo, we’ll see a decline.
Sorry. It was there, but it was very subtle. (And you can’t really do it at home – it’s still in “brick and mortar” form and requires teams and special dice.)

Comment from Mitch –
‘Toon: And, none of those folks can vote!!! While their presence makes the Prison CEO’s quite wealthy. So, I saw an old phrase, on a guy’s tee-shirt, yesterday:”America, Love It, Or Leave It.” Some folks continue to think that this country is in no need of bettering, are happy with the status quo BS.
MJ: Global warming is s bitch, no matter how one looks at it. It is already causing shifts in human populations.
DU: Grassley is just another elected thug, and while we have no evidence, I still come down on the side of nefarious intent regarding Pence on the 6th.
That Grasley’s people insist that the comment was in error, I see that as just one more bit of GQP BS>
Huffies: No surprise there.
FFT: No surprise there, either, sadly. Exxon-Mobile has spent how much, recently, to deny/hide the impact of their industry on the climate? $39,000,000, as I read it.
Mitch
Hi, just wanted to say, I’m just able to view and enjoy the reading posts and comments today.
Had my right hand surgery this morning and still very numb, hot and some pain. Will have to get pain medication tomorrow. I’m able to use the tight hand or fingers since they’re bandaged. Been keeping ice pack on it.
Take care. Thanks Joanne
Feel better fast!
Colleen, good to hear from you. Hope you heal quickly. Everyone stay safe.
Keep healing! Looks like you’ve mastered one-hand typing!
You must be glad to have it over and done with and focus on healing, Colleen. Use painkillers wisely; don’t brave it the first few days and stay as pain-free as possible – it really helps healing and recovery from the operation – then wean yourself from the medication as you become stronger and the pain lessens.
The weather is globally unstable with lots of rain and storms/wind everywhere. Well, here it is mainly the wind.
Cartoon: Since then the number has doubled, in 2018 it already was 2,4 million, but it has dropped to 1,9 million for federal prisons and local jails, but that excludes approximately 50,000 juvenile detainees and goodness knows how many immigrant/refugees.
MJ: This game could really help, but it’ll only work for those who accept its basic premises. For those who are allergic to science, like anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers, it will not make them act responsibly.
DU: Speculation is going rampant because the DOJ after 9 months still gives no indication of prosecutions from investigations. The more speculation is allowed to go wild, the more disappointed people will be with the little prosecution son offer should the DOJ finally go into action.
HP: These numbers should shock us, but they don’t. They aren’t even a surprise.
FFT: They knew about it in 1912, more than a century ago. Yet Republicans keep on denying the truth. Makes you wonder to what era they want to return to make America great again. That of the civil war perhaps, so they can iron out a few little mistakes?
