Really American – Republicans Up Hostility Towards Science
MSNBC – Miles Taylor: ‘Mark Zuckerberg Should Be Sweating’ (spoiler: the first whistleblower is likely not the only one)
ICU – Lona – Pandora Papers: An unprecedented leak exposes the inner workings of a shadow economy (sequel to Panama Papers which was a sequel to Paradise Papers – it keeps getting more so.)
School Board Meeting – SNL (It’s very well done, but the real thing is much worse. No one gets shot or spit on in this.)
Lonely goose falls in love with woman. Then things get weird.
Beau – Let’s talk about Biden’s per mile tax and “not real news”….

Recap of Legal Stories for September
I hope the legal activity escalates in October!
Republicans Up Hostility Towards Science
Well, science deals in truths and facts – and truths and facts are anathema to republicans. So of course they’re hostile towards science.
‘Mark Zuckerberg Should Be Sweating’
Good! I hope Zuck’s own words will be his epitaph:
Pandora Papers: An unprecedented leak exposes the inner workings of a shadow economy
This is very disturbing.
School Board Meeting – SNL
(Actual compilation of typical school board meetings anymore – but w/ less violence. And that kid w/ the beard? Wonderful!)
Lonely goose falls in love with woman.
I’m glad she found Honk a good home.
But my previous home was on a large lake in a subdivision w/ a number of lakes – so we had geese. Back in those days I was running for my exercise, and trust me when I say you do NOT want to be chased by a gaggle of geese! They are NOT friendly creatures!
… Biden’s per mile tax and “not real news” …
GQP: We just make $HIT up! It’s what we do. And we’re DAMN good at it.
RA: The GQP doesn’t hate all science. They love the science that tells them a few cells in a Petrie dish on their way into evolving into a fetus after about six weeks can produce something similar to a heartbeat, for instance.
MSNBC: The internet in its early years evolved at universities and it was all about trust. That was naive perhaps, but that is how university culture worked. As soon as it was commercialised it became all about money and abuse of the internet’s magical ability to connect with others in a simple and direct way.
ICIJ: There’s a whole article on American tax havens: Suspect foreign money flows into booming American tax havens on promise of eternal secrecy.
SNL: Very humorous, but far from a real School Board meeting these days, I imagine.
GBA: Goose can be as adorable as Honk, but can get quite a nuisance when the imprint on you after hatching. And they’re very territorial – best watchdogs ever – so when they get older they try to gang up on you and chase you up.
Beau: Did you get AP Not Real News from beau, Joanne? I think the list of countries/states that do not tax petrol is very much shorter than the list of those that do. Here in Oz they suggested putting a sales tax on electric cars (we haven’t got yet) because they wouldn’t pay any fuel tax. It was just another way of keeping electric cars out of Oz, of course, but also shows where tax priorities of governments lie.
Yup. I already had AP News but not the Not Real News link/ Just looking at one week so far, they pick up phony stories before I even hear about them. Very helpful. I don’t know of any state which doesn’t have fuel taxes. Theyu are supposed to go into maintaining roads – and sometimes they do. When I started driving to see Virgil again, I noticed two significant improvements in the road which had clearly been complete before Joe was even elected. That was done with fuel taxes. But then we are a more or less blue state, and apparently getting bluer I just live in a red area Thankfully, land doesn’t vote.
