Yesterday, it was (IMO) cold again. I turned on my portable heater. Eventually it warmed up some. If the forecast holds, it’ll be perfect for my drive on October 1, but the forecasts haven’t been holding that long as a rule. I can only hope.

HuffPost – The Senate May Actually Produce A Bipartisan Violence Against Women Act Bill
Quote – Senate and White House aides involved in months of negotiations on a VAWA reauthorization bill tell HuffPost that despite the relative silence on the subject, they’re feeling optimistic about unveiling bipartisan legislation ― and soon. “We are encouraged by the progress in the Senate and are looking forward to a bipartisan bill being introduced this fall,” said a White House official familiar with talks on a VAWA bill.

The Hill – Debt ceiling fight pits corporate America against Republicans
Quote – The debt ceiling battle on Capitol Hill is pitting corporate America against congressional Republicans in a test for business groups that have historically aligned with GOP lawmakers on economic issues. Senate Republican leaders are digging in on their opposition to raising or suspending the debt limit, prompting sharp warnings from lobbying groups that represent some of the biggest U.S. corporations.
Click through for details. Republicans may kowtow to bug business … but apparently there’s not one in a hundred who actualy understands how business works. But I guess that shouldn’t be surprising.
Crooks and Liars – ‘Epik Hack’ Is Right Wing’s Worst Nightmare
Quote – “It’s massive. It may be the biggest domain-style leak I’ve seen and, as an extremism researcher, it’s certainly the most interesting,” said Megan Squire, a computer science professor at Elon University who studies right-wing extremism. “It’s an embarrassment of riches — stress on the embarrassment.”

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I think that Fall has arrived here too. Chilly. Not that that’s bad though, warms up later on in the morning. Love this season.
Cartoon: Good Grief!
HuffPo: Encouraging news.
C&L: IMHO – Last sentence in article says it all.

This just in: “Latinos are severely underrepresented in the media industry and have made few gains in film, television, or newsrooms since 2014, according to a preliminary U.S. Government Accountability Office report.” ~ Russell Contreras ~
2. “How much is “too much” when you’re talking about saving the planet? How much is “too much” when you’re talking about allowing our seniors to age with dignity? How much is “too much” when you’re talking about making child care affordable? We must get our priorities straight.” ~ Bernie Sanders ~
3. “On #HungerActionDAY, I want to highlight how the Child Tax Credit is helping families put food on the table. Census data shows that half of those who received this tax cut are using it to buy food. We need to make this help permanent. ~ Rep Katie Porter ~
4. “It’s time the super-wealthy and big corporations pay their fair share in taxes.” ~ President Joe Biden~
5. “The Congressional Committee investigating the Jan 6th attack on the US Capitol has issued subpoenas to some of former President Trump’s closest advisors, including Steve Bannon, Mark Meadows, and Dan Scavino.” ~Joy Ann Reid ~
TJI #2 – Sadly, at the present time we’re stuck w/ Manchin & Sinema answering Bernie’s question.
TJI #3 – I LOVE Rep. Katie Porter! She’s not only very bright, she does excellent FA&FO! (F*ck Around & Find Out)
TJI #1 – I suspect that’s also true of black people. native Americans, and Asian Americans. These things happen when they think no one is paying attention.
TJI #2 – He may have to explain what “priorities” means. Some of those people may never have heard the word before.
TJI #3 – I can just hear Republicans whining, “What are the pther half using it for? Booze and drugs?” as if rent and school supplies and transportation weren’t critical also.
TJI #4 –
TJI #5 – Good.
The Senate May Actually Produce A Bipartisan “Violence Against Women Act” Bill
As noted, the “Violence Against Women Act” is a seminal piece of legislation that was originally authored by then-Sen. Joe Biden in 1994.
Of note is how the vote counts highlight how polarized the nation has become:

Debt ceiling fight pits corporate America against Republicans
If it were to happen (lord, I hope not), it will be referred to as the “McConnell Default”. He and the GQP OWN IT!
One of the more amazing Flip-Flops by Mitch solely depending on who’s the president:
‘Epik Hack’ Is Right Wing’s Worst Nightmare
But these aren’t just “right-wingers” … these are DOMESTIC TERRORISTS!
…
And since today is National Punctuation Day, I think it’d be fun to celebrate it with Victor Borge’s classic piece on “Phonetic Punctuation” from the Ed Sullivan Show.
(Back when I had hearing and just moved to KCMO, my Mom and aunt came down to visit, and I took them to see Victor Borge at our Starlight Theater. It was an excellent show!)
How great that you put up Victor Borge’s act from the Ed Sullivan Show!
We watched the Ed Sullivan show every Sunday night.
Thank you for the flash back, Nameless.
The best thing about this hack is that it is finding the ones with white collar lives who never make the news and are the hardest to rack (at least until you know who they are.)
Oh dear.. National punctuation day. I’ll have to be careful. And Borge was always wonderful, but there is soomething about a live perfoemance, isn’t there.
Sure brings back fun memories, Nameless.
Victor Borge is hilarious, doing “Phonetic Punctuation” act.
I too use to watch Ed Sullivan show every Sunday with my parents/family.
Thanks Nameless
Cartoon: OMG!
HuffPost: It’s about time…well over due.
The Hill: Despicable, sick of the way mitch the bi*ch and his buddies play their evil games.
C&L: Scary. Hate to
Mother Nature is playing games with our weather here in Mira Mesa. We had a little drizzle here in Mira Mesa, other areas had close to half an inch or more, but it did cool down to the low 60’s.
I hope it stays comfortable for you there.
Take care. Thanks Joanne
There used to be a time of overlap in temperatures in spring and autumn between the Northern and Southern Hemisphere. That time is now very erratic and very short. The temperature here today is in the 30s Centigrade, quite a bit above average and a little more north the heatwaves are building up again. I’ll need to turn on the air conditioner soon.
Cartoon: America prides itself on being a Christian nation until something doesn’t agree with their particular brand of Christianity and one would think oneself to be back in the dark ages where Catholics fought Protestants.
HP: Be still, my beating heart, it may never come to a bipartisan bill.
TH: Why does it no longer astound me that the GQP rather destroy the economy of their own country than give up opposing Biden on all issues as they’ve vowed to do? And why doesn’t it surprise me that they foolhardily pursue this while in the grip of the worst pandemic ever, the severity of which is also down to them because they got many of their followers to oppose Biden (=vaccination)?
C&L: I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
FFT: We can never win this, can we? I was sent this old chestnut this morning: “The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”- Albert Einstein. It’s appropriate most days now.
