Yesterday, I discovered that Bob Woodward’s new book, “Peril” (co-written with Robert Costa), is so packed with bombshells that I’m not going to be able to cover it properly. And it’s not even out until next week. I’m sure to be making allusions to it from time to time, though. Especially in the video thread.  But the high point of the day was seeing a dear friend who picks up for me the one prescription I can’t get delivered.  Thanks to the pandemic, including now Delta, that’s the only way I get to see her.

HuffPost – QAnon Followers Threaten Hospital After Outspoken COVID Denier Dies Of COVID
Quote – Lin Wood — a far-right attorney Twitter permanently banned earlier this year after he predicted the execution of then-Vice President Mike Pence by firing squad — seized upon [Veronica] Wolski’s hospitalization to boost his own publicity. He used social media to urge his followers to contact staff at the hospital and demand Wolski be treated with ivermectin. Hundreds of people have since called and emailed the hospital, according to NBC Chicago. Some have threatened violence. In a post on Telegram after Wolski’s death, Wood told his followers they had a “responsibility” to stop “medical murders” and to “go to war.” Hospital staff reportedly called the police in response to bomb threats.

Crooks and Liars – Alabama Man Dies After 43 Hospitals With Full ICUs Turned Him Away
Quote – A reminder, if one were even needed at this point, that with all these COVID patients in ICU beds across the country resources are stretched to their limit. In Alabama things are especially dire, as they no longer have any ICU beds. When Ray DeMonia suffered his cardiac event they searched in vain for an ICU bed for him, finally finding one in Mississippi. But it was too late.

The Hill – Trump’s 2020 gains in rural America offset by Biden’s urban dominance
Quote – “We’re becoming more diverse, we’re becoming more urban, and most of that is happening outside of places Trump won,” said William Frey, a senior demographer at the Brookings Institution. “Even though Trump did better than he did in 2016 in some of those bigger places, the groups he was getting are shrinking parts of those populations.”

Food for Thought –

Also, for those observing Yo Kippur, may the fast be easy and the day blessed.

  1. I’m number 177 on my library’s wait list for “Peril”.  (Actually it’s a consortium of all the suburban libraries  on the Missouri side put together – so it’s pretty big.)

QAnon Followers Threaten Hospital After Outspoken COVID Denier Dies Of COVID

    From the article:

Lin Wood, who still has a law license, called up a hospital, introduced himself as an attorney, and told the operator they’ll be charged with murder because they refused to dispense Ivermectin to an anti-vaxxer pal of his who got COVID.

Looks to me like Lin Wood is going to lose his medical license as well as his law license.

    </snark>

(Can you imagine a random person totally unrelated to the patient calling the hospital to demand the patient’s release?  HOSPITAL: “Yeah, OK … we’ll get right on that.”)

Alabama Man Dies After 43 Hospitals With Full ICUs Turned Him Away

THIS is Sarah Palin’s “Death Panels” (which was awarded “Lie of the Year” back in 2009) in action!

The utter peril the GQP, QAnon, Trumpkins, etc. have placed the rest of us is appalling.

Trump’s 2020 gains in rural America offset by Biden’s urban dominance

There’s no doubt that the demographics are moving in the direction favoring Democrats.

The problem is the distribution.  As I’ve noted before, the two Dakotas (N & S) combined have fewer people than just the island of Manhattan – yet they elect FOUR SENATORS!

  2. Aww…Sweet! Friends are Friends through and through.
    Cartoon: World Ozone Day!
HuffPo: I can’t wrap those thoughts around my head. How did extremists, QAnon people decide who and what to say and threaten folks re: deaths and the treatment of ivermectin who have covid? Awful, and sad.
C&L: How most unfortunate for this man, shame he wasn’t vaccinated.
The Hill: Go Dems! Go, Biden!
FFT: PTL !! A great prayer! I will be passing this one on to my friends here in TX.

TJI: “Oregon is burning. California is burning. Siberia is burning. People are drowning in New York City. Detroit is flooding. There is drought all over the world. This is a climate crisis. The United States must lead the world in transforming our energy system away from fossil fuel.” ~ Senator Bernie Sanders ~
    2. “My cousin got the vaccine and 3 days later, WHAM! Stepped on a lego. Not saying it’s vaccine-induced lego-foot, but do your own research.” ~ Angry Staffer ~
3.”Texas has nearly 2 MILLION people overdue for a second COVID 19 vaccine dose, and  more than 1 million are more than 90 days overdue.”  ~ Kevin Reynolds ~
4.”Few things make me angrier than an unvaccinated frontline healthcare worker.” ~ John Pavlovitz ~
    5. “EXCELLENT NEWS: “Delta Airlines announced that 4,000 unvaccinated employees got the vaccine after the company announced it was adding a $200 monthly surcharge on its health care plan for employees who werenot vaccinated. Who thinks more companies should follow Delta’s lead?” ~ RealAMerican1~

    • TJI #1 – If they can’t see CoViD for what it is in their own homes (and bodies), why would anyone expect them to see what’s happening in the world?
TJI #2 – In case anyone was wondering, orchitis is not a vaccine side effect, nor is decreased fertility. However, decreased fertiity can be a symptom of having the disease.
TJI #3 – I can understand not getting the vaccine at all better than I can understand getting the first dose and skipping the second. wTF!
TJI #4 – Now that I can understand perfectly.
      TJI #5 – Excellent!

    • TJI #4 – Ain’t that the truth!

      TJI #5 – Money talks.

    • TJI #4: I’m with you there, John, though one thing did:
Hobart Catholic archbishop’s has written to Tasmania’s Health Minister Jeremy Rockliff to request that priests with a conscientious objection to COVID-19 vaccines still be able to offer ministry in aged care homes. Thank goodness, a Catholic lobby group spoke up to point out the archbishop’s view is inconsistent with the views of the Pope and the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference.

TJI #5: What a terrific idea.

  3. PERSONAL UPDATE

Tomorrow I get to spend most of the day at my cardiologist’s office, so Saturday it will be.

(Maybe I should start numbering my excuses …)

  4. Happy to hear that you saw a friend COVID restrictions prevented you from seeing. I’m sorry I misinterpreted your stoic, yet slightly cynical acceptance of not seeing many people in the flesh for a chosen recluse life yesterday, Joanne. I hope you get to see more of your friends soon.

HP: “Go to war”? Pardon me, but as seen from afar America already is in a civil war. One that is partly fought out with biological weapons that indiscriminately claim victims on both sides.

C&L: More and more of these dreadful stories will be heard as hospitals are filled to the brim with COVID patients. Many are suggesting triaging, but if I understand that process correctly, that would only work when COVID patients and those with other life-threatening medical problems are still being assessed before being given an ICU bed. Once given such a bed, a COVID patient on ventilation will not be taken off to make room for a heart attack sufferer.

TH: The system of voting and representation seems to be in need of a complete overhaul. By Democrats and independents, of course, not as it is done now by Republicans.

FFT: It doesn’t do much as a prayer but as a rule to live by it speaks to me.

    • No, you really didn’t misinerpret me. I only have a very few people whomI would go out of my way to be with, and Trinette is one of them. Others include Terri (who lives in Florida, Virgil of course, my cousinf Nancy (in California, and that’s about all I can think of off the top of my head. Oh, wait – there’s Carrie B – she’s in Alabama. But even us introverts can occasionally appreciate another prson. And, really, the scarcity of the moments increases each moment’s value.

  5. HuffPost: It’s getting to be a living nightmare the way these extremists are reacting to antivaxxers dying from Covid-19. Threatening the hospital for not giving the patient the horse dewormer. When is it ever going to end???
C&L: Shameful he died due to no available ICU’s out of 43 hospitals. Prayers to his family, plus all others in the same boat.
    The Hill: I agree…go Democrats/go Biden.
Food for Thought: Love it. One to practice.
Glad you got to visit with your dear friend. Hope you’ll be able to more often.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne
