Yesterday, I changed my mouse battery – twice – because the first “new” battery didn’t work. That may have been the high point of the day – which is fine with me!

Short Takes –

The 19th – Texas is pushing the most anti-trans bills in the country. Advocates fear deadly consequences.
Quote – “We just have a fraction of the data and can see that we’re in crisis,” said Victoria Kirby York, deputy executive director of the National Black Justice Coalition. “It’s past epidemic, and these state legislatures are making things worse.” … As greater numbers of anti-trans bills have been introduced across more states within the last two years, more trans homicides have taken place in those states. Last year, 56 percent of trans homicides took place in states that attempted to pass anti-trans legislation, per a review of ACLU and Human Rights Campaign data by The 19th. Still, research proving any direct link between the deaths and the legislation is lacking.
Click through for story. There have always been trans people and I don’t remember it being an issue when I was a child or a teen or a twenty-something. I do remember Christine Jorgensen, however. (I don’t remember her getting death threats, though yes, she did get some harassment, but it wasn’t amplified, nor was it legitimized.)

The Hill – Five things to watch in the California recall election
They are – 1. What’s turnout like?
2. Does Democrats’ strategy pay off?
3. Were the polls right?
4. What does the result tell us about the state of politics in California and nationwide?
5. How does scrutiny affect Elder?
Click through for discussion of one or more. By the time you read this, it will be over (though mayme not couted.) Even those of us who don’t live there can learn from watching.

Wonkette – Anti-Maskers Try To Pull A January 6 On School Board, Swear Selves In As Replacements
Quote – Last week, a ragtag group of people who don’t even have children in California’s Poway Unified School District invaded a closed school board meeting, as part of a rally organized by dark money-funded astroturf group “Let Them Breathe,” and refused to leave. Police declined to force them out and instead suggested the school board adjourn the meeting instead. You know, for their own safety.
Click through. I’m not trying to terrify Colleen, especially on e recall election day, but this is all over the news and I can see why. These people have what a former boss of mine ised to refer to as “brass balls the size of church bells.”

  1. Changing batteries is a good thing.  (And I HATE changing my smoke alarm batteries.  It’s hard to squeeze those prongs together and at the same time line it up with that protruding pin.)

Texas is pushing the most anti-trans bills in the country. Advocates fear deadly consequences.

people encouraged by anti-trans legislation can lead to violence and further victimization …”

Makes one wonder if that might not be one of their aims.

Five things to watch in the California recall election

What really honks me off is that for the past week one of the lead stories (at least for NBC & ABC) has been “CA Recall – Elder – CA Recall – Elder – CA Recall – Elder – etc.”

Newsom wins in a LANDSLIDE (almost 2:1) and now they give us BUPKUS!

(Yeah, right … the “liberal media”.  Give me a break!)

Anti-Maskers Try To Pull A January 6 On School Board, Swear Selves In As Replacements

“Constitutionalist … Don’t Leave Home Without One.”

    • “Cruelty is the point.”  “Two-minute hate.” “The Bacchae.”  It’s very helpful for an unscrupulous leader to have minions who will literally do anything.  Dionysus didn’t have to lay a finger on Pentheus (not that Pentheus was my idea of a role model either, of course.  Just sayin’.).

  2. Cartoon: A very worthy cause and organization.
19th News: re: our LGBTQ community. How very sad and sickening that folks can’t live the way they’d like and for those who love, no matter who, in Texas. Downright depressing.
The Hill: YAY! Thankfully, Governor Newsome won! Congratulations!
Wonkette: WOW! The police and the school board couldn’t oust them. That is wrong on so many levels…shame on them, sickening and dangerous behavior.
    FFT: Srsly! Unreal.

I was going to mow the lawn this morning, but talked myself out of it. Besides…it’s supposed to rain sometime today. 28

This just in: “I’m keeping my options open for another Senate Run.” ~ Al Franken ~
    2.  “Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing six school districts that have defied Gov. Greg Abbott’s ban on local masking orders.” (the Elgin, Galveston, Richardson, Round Rock, Sherman and Spring school districts). ~ Texas Tribune ~
    3. “On Morning Joe, Dr. Fauci lays out the personal health risk to the unvaccinated, and adds: “It isn’t all about you… You’re not in a vacuum. You live in a society.” ~ Willie Geist ~
    4. “My colleagues and I all took the same oath to defend the Constitution. That means protecting the people, not the powerful and privileged. Defending our freedom to vote is central to keeping the power with the people.”  ~Jeff Merkley ~
    5. “President Lincoln once cautioned the country of “the silent artillery of time,” threatening to erode our memories. Re: 9/11 – “Let us renew our vow: ‘That time shall not dim the memory of our Heroes.'” ~ Nancy Pelosi ~

    • TJI #1 – He was a great Senator – which, of course, is why he was targeted (and likely would be again.) If he (and Franni) are up for that, I would have to support him.
TJI #2 – You just can’t get a break there, can you. Paxton will probably cost the state enough money doing this to instead fix the power grid.
TJI #3 – They don’t care. If it even occurs to them they might pass it on, they visualize passing it to a “lib.” Not to one of them, least of all anyone close.
TJI #4 – Preach it, Jeff!
      TJI #5 –

    • Lord, I hope Al Franken runs again!

If the GQP embraces openly criminal sexual misconduct like that of Matt Gaetz & Jim “Gym” Jordan, and marginal misconduct of MTG Greene & Lauren “BANG-BANG” Boebert – then Franken should be a GO!

    • TJI#1: I like Al Franklin. I too wish he would run again.
TJI#2: What a jerk, out to take monies from the schools for protecting the kids.
TJI#4: Speaks and does his job like a true politician is suppose to. Wish he could knock some sense in the rotten R’s he works with.
      TJI#5: Wise words. Amen

  3. Cartoon: Great organization. Fights for important issues to help make our environment safe.
The 19th: Shameful…shows how heartless they are.
The Hill: Grateful that this recall here is over with. I was sick of listening to the tRump like Repug, Elder feed lies with his ads. Sounded exactly like tRump did when he was running.
Wonkette: It’s getting to be insane here. These parents are getting to be violent. Something has got to be done to put an end to their dangerous acts of violence. What erks me is the fact that masks are for keeping their kids healthy. We’re still seeing fully vaccinated people coming down with Covid-19. They may not get that sick from it, but they can still carry and spread the virus germs to many.  Another thing is that these schools are going by the county and state rules and must be followed.
Food for Thought: People must be really losing it, when they still think taking the horse deworming pills will fight the Covid-19 virus.
Glad your days have been going smoothly for you.
It’s finally cooling down here. Nice not having the high humidity.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

  4. One thing is clear, Joanne, you lead a very quiet life. Quiet and solitary in that you do not talk to very many people in person. But you make it also very clear that this is how you prefer to live your life, enjoying the highlight of a double battery change. Good on ya, girl.

Cartoon: I haven’t been a member for all those fifty years but I must be getting close to forty.

19th: Trying to catch up a little, I just saw Beau’s video posted yesterday on Orwell. If there is one state in the US that can serve as an example of Orwellian influence, Texas must be it.

TH: Republicans lost the Californian recall very badly, thank goodness. But that won’t stop from milking “voter fraud” and “stolen election” until Californians are blue in the face. And it’ll pay off for them until justice finally come for TFG and his helpers.

Wonkette: No news coming out of the US can surprise me anymore.

FFT: Evolution has been going in reverse for quite a while now but it takes some 30-40 years to see what damage it has done.
