Yesterday, I piddled around with a bunch of small household tasks. Can’t say as I really accomplished much, but sometimes getting a bunch of little stuff out of the way does feel like accomplishment.
Cartoon – Incidentally, I own a framed copy of the print made from this rendition by Bryan Moon of that occasion. I love his work.

Crooks and Liars – Pathetic Arizona Manbabies Cosplay Gomer Pyle At Elementary School
Quote – Now, I could write a normal article, citing The Washington Post and Daily Beast, outlining the absurd and outrageous details of this dangerous nonsense. Frankly, these three don’t deserve the national attention or my resultant rise in blood pressure. Instead, I shall vent my spleen, and open a good, old-fashioned can of Brooklyn whoop-ass on them, as god and my DNA intended.
In case you missed this, click through. The principal is physically fine, as is the other staff member, but both were naturally terrified. Since, she has received so much support from the community, she can’t talk about it without tearing up with gratitude
CNN (H/T Carrie B) – Like Washington and Jefferson, he championed liberty. Unlike the founders, he freed his slaves
Quote – It was 230 years ago Sunday that Robert Carter III, the patriarch of one of the wealthiest families in Virginia, quietly walked into a Northumberland County courthouse and delivered an airtight legal document announcing his intention to free, or manumit, more than 500 slaves. He titled it the “deed of gift.” It was, by far, experts say, the largest liberation of Black people before President Abraham Lincoln signed the District of Columbia Emancipation Act and Emancipation Proclamation more than seven decades later.
Click through for the full (and virtually unknown) story. It deserves to be known far and wide. (Without going into detail, it appears possible that Carter Burwell, composer of the music for many films, especially Coen Brothers films, is a descendant.)
Common Dreams – House Dems Introduce Bill to Lower Medicare Age to 60
Quote – Researchers have found that there is a massive increase in the diagnosis of cancer among Americans who reach the age of 65 that could have been detected much earlier if they had access to Medicare.
Click through for some whats, whos, and whys. If we have to do it five years at a time, then that’s the way we will have to do it.

Great articles, Joanne. THANKS!
I had never heard the story about Robert Carter. As for the Medicare being available for those 60yr. old, that’s a great idea. It would help a lot of people, not to mention saving more lives.
Robert B.
Thanks, Robert. Always good to hear from you. I didn’t know about Carter either. The Carter plantaition in Virginia that people used to visit as part of Colonial Williamsburg belinged to his grandson, not to him, and no one ever mentioned him there that I know of.
Sometimes doing something vs. doing noting is good. To me…anyways! lol
Cartoon: Cats with hats. Love it! What a cool picture.
C&L: Glad he got arrested for his words and actions. On a school campus, no less. UGH! This is dangerous behavior, imho. Taking your son to watch what the dad/friends say and do? BTW.. I love her last paragraph in the article too.
CNN: A great history lesson and story, w/be passing this on too. TY, Carrie
CD: A timely, great & wonderful lifesaving for folks in need, and in introducing this bill. Hey! I’m all for it!
FFT: Yea! Can’t come soon enough !!
THIS JUST IN: “Texas schools have amassed more than 50,000 confirmed coronavirus student cases in just weeks. More than a dozen school districts have closed temporarily as a result of the disease, and Texas is a leader in child #COVID19 deaths with 59 as of Sept. 3.” ~ Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding ~
2. “At a clinic in Albuquerque, New Mexico, an abortion provider said that on Tuesday, the day before the abortion ban’s enactment, every patient who had made an appointment online was from Texas.” ~Texas Tribune ~
3. “From here on out, let’s reserve the term pro-life for those politicians who actually care about preventing kids from catching a deadly virus and being shot in their classrooms.” ~ Andrew Weinstein~
4. “How about a law that provides $10,000 for being a whistleblower on insurrection, terrorism, and hate crimes? ~ Tristan Snell ~
5. “The Supreme Court had the power to stop Texas from banning abortions after 6 weeks. Joe Manchin has the power to stop Texas from suppressing black and brown votes. Doing nothing when you have the power and obligation to act is cowardice. You are complicit.” ~ George Takei ~
TJI #1 – I am so sorry. I don’t know the name, but he shouldn’t be hard to find. It’s not like “John Smith.”
TJI #2 – Do tell.
TJI #3 – We can’t do that in pur own discourse, but, sadly, we can’t stop them from abusing the term. Look what they did with the word “Christian.”
TJI #4 – Excellent idea. Though most whistleblowers would be satisfied if the government would just stop locking them up.
TJI #5 – Rule 303. “If you have the means at hand, you have the responsibility to act.” Different folks say it differently, but all people of integrity say it in some way.
Cartoon: Love it.
C&L: Stinking bas*ards. These school workers are doing their jobs; teaching and taking care of the kids. What flipping right do these thugs have threatening them?? Especially because their baby could go on a field trip. I’m glad they got arrested. Now prosecute them to the fullest, to teach other idiots not to even think of doing anything like they did.
CNN: Interesting history lesson. I like Robert was unaware of Carter III. Appreciate what he did to free so many. Nice to see that now since 2008 that they honor that day. Thanks Carrie for the article.
CD: Good for the Dems. It’s long overdue.
Food for Thought: Wishing and hoping that she’ll be long gone mighty soon, plus some of her buddies too.
Nice to read that you’ve been able to relax. Hope it continues that direction for you.
Take care. Thanks Joanne
This went missing from the comments yesterday:
“…getting a bunch of little stuff out of the way does feel like accomplishment.” Been there, accomplished that
Cartoon: But they look so harmless…
C&L: This makes you wonder what substance they shared before walking into the principal’s office. WTF were they thinking? Or rather: Were they thinking?
CNN: Oops, that tips the scales against the founding fathers a bit, doesn’t it. It is unfortunate that little of Robert Carter III’s motivation is known but it appears that not being a politician he could stay true to the principles of Enlightenment and didn’t have to compromise on ‘practicality’.
CD: I hope these 5-year-steps are not going to replace Medicare for all; it’ll take at least 12 years – and how many deaths? – before you get to the same level.
FFT: In her case, 2022 can’t come soon enough.
