Yesterday, I put together a pdf on everything I know about my mother’s relatives, for my second cousin, the amateur genealogist. Much of it is family lore, and there are a lot of gaps when it comes to actual information, like names and dates. But he’ll be insterested. He recently passed on (through his sister) that my great-grandfather August, who served the Union in the Civi War (a fact which he, and I, had known for over 20 years) only enlisted after getting drunk with some old army buddies (I assume from some German army – “Germany” didn’t exist as a unified state at that time.) But that’s OK. He served honorably, and did it on the right side. I also did some shopping, including making a grocery delivery order for today.

The Guardian – Tennessee woman drowns seconds after filming rising floodwaters
Quote – Victoria Almond said her brother and mother held on to a utility pole but let go when they saw a house floating towards them. When her brother emerged after being pulled briefly under the water, she said, their mother was gone.
Click through for story. It’s also a story, in a way, that it’s not American media in which I found this. (Apparently the Washington Post did carry it.)
Common Dreams – 63% of US Veterans Support Afghanistan Withdrawal: Poll
Quote – “Veterans know the cost of war, so it should come as no surprise that they strongly back President Biden’s decision to end the war in Afghanistan,” Mary Kaszynski, director of government relations for VoteVets, said in a statement. “Veterans strongly believe President Biden is right—it is time to go.”

Vox – What full FDA approval for Covid-19 vaccines really means
Quote – Full approval grants the vaccine manufacturers permission to advertise their products and allow them to continue selling them after the public health emergency around Covid-19 ends. For doctors, full approval also allows them to use vaccines off-label, potentially as booster shots.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Sorry so late. Typo in the scheduler.
No apologies needed, Joanne. You’re doing a FANTASTIC job. TY!
Great to read about your family and your history. Good that you got some shopping in and ordering your groceries too. Enjoy your day!
Cartoon: Awww….sweet kitty. Even (s)he knows to stay away from those mean/lying/nasty R’s too.
The Guardian: Oh!!! I’m so sorry to see this! So very tragic and sad!
CD: To which I agree wholeheartedly.
Vox: Definitely good news re: the Covid vaccines.
FFA: Yep.

A reminder that local elections—like for school boards — can mean life or death for our communities.” ~ Beto O’Rourke ~

TJI #1a – More than that, please. He might just live that long.
TJI #1b – Absolutely correct. And, yes, we see you.
TJI #2 – Go Beto! Preach it!
TJI #3 – I’m confident about the infrastructure. I’m less confident about the VRA, but that’sno detriment to her – but to our Senate, which ought to be ashamed, but isn’t.
TJI #4 – Oh, I don’t know – it might be true – he might be that handicapped. I guess it depends on what one means by “can.”
TJI #5a – Hear, hear!
TJI #5b – I wish that were true at all sites.
Another TJI just in….
“Seton hospital has closed their ORs so that OR staff can be re-deployed elsewhere in the hospital. Cancer cases cannot go on. Cardiac cases cannot go on. This afternoon I had to call 3 pts w/ cancer (one who is 27!!) & tell them their surgery for this week is cancelled.” -Emily Porter, Austin surgeon
Not the first time thes has happened (as Colleen can testify) … I hope it will be the last, but I haven’t much faith
Really sad to see patients surgery/treatments being cancelled. I pray that they’ll be doing okay while their surgery/treatment is on hold.
What really bothers me, is that this is happening all because of people who refused to get vaccinated months ago and are now lying in ICU/hospital rooms close to their death. The opportunity was there all along for them to get vaccinated.
TJI#1: So true. I have real problems with so-called police officers who don’t treat people fairly/equally.
TJI#2: Agree with Beto 100%. San Diego Unified School District said today, that everyone, students and staff members must wear a mask inside classes and now even when they’re outside on school grounds.
TJI#3: Yes she’s a fighter. It’s too bad she has to deal with such idiots, Rotten R’s/GOPiggies.
TJI#4: Hate to think of how long his nose would be if he had one like Pinocchio.
TJI#5: True words.
Cartoon: That’s one smart Cat.
The Guardian: Yikes, 17 inches of water in 3 hours. Heartbreaking to hear that she died, plus so many others.
CD: We all agree with them. It’s been something that should of been done a long time before.
Vox: So glad it’s finally FDA approved. I just hope the ones who haven’t gotten vaccinated, will finally do it.
Food for Thought: Sad, but so true.
Nice that you got all of the family heritage information on a pdf for your second cousin. My son did it many years ago, after my mother died. Nice knowing all about our family heritages.
I was worried this morning when I first went on the site here and didn’t see anything new for today. Glad it was just a scheduler issue, not you or your health.
It’s nice a toasty here today. Today is suppose to be the hottest, which is at 94. I wish I could stay indoor, but I have to go for my yearly checkup/visit at 2:30.
Hope you have a nice afternoon.
Take care. Thanks Joanne
Yes, that’s the down side of being dependable. One little slip and people worry. I do myself when it’s someone else dependable. Thanks for caring!
Genealogy is so much fun, isn’t it?
Cartoon: Cats won’t have anything to do with the GQP.
TG: So very sad. The deaths of all victims of extreme weather are. We have to brace ourselves for more victims in the very near future. All over the world. The Guardian left no doubt. These events are linked to climate change caused by human action.
CD: Today’s ISIS suicide-bombing attack, killing at least 60 people just outside the airport, including 13 Americans, will not change their mind, I hope. Though the administrations promise to hunt the ones behind the bombing down, doesn’t bode well. They can only do that by aiding the Taliban in fighting ISIS, leave some troops behind or operate from across the borders of Afghanistan. The last two possibilities will not go down well with the Taliban.
Vox: For now, the main implication is for booster shots, as deteriorating coverage against the virus/new viruses is apparent in countries that started vaccination early and quickly. People who were vaccinated at the beginning of the year may need a booster shot soon.
FFT: Doctors and nurses face terrible ethical dilemmas on top of the strain they’re already under and some now want to keep beds/sections of hospital free to admit patients who need care but not for COVID. But who is going to allot non-vaccinated COVID patients a place in ICU? First come, first served, as it is for non-COVID patients? And too many patients with compromised health but COVID-free who are admitted to the hospital end up infected by Delta in that hospital and dying from it.
And the bombing has not changed Joe’s mind, at least, He is on record to be still looking at the 31st deadline.
The most recent I heard on boosters was 6 months after the second shot, but of course that could change. I’ll be watching for updates, as I assume we all will be.
Cartoon: better believe my felines are NOT GQP. One born last summer is named John Lewis Warnock! Haven’t seen “Beto”(feral) for a long time—think he’s registering voters. TN: I saw that in WAPO. Tragic and afraid will see more of this w/climate crisis. CD: As Grumpy Cat said—“Good.” Faux squackers and GQP screamers are NOT vets, I would bet. VOX:Hooray! Now get ‘er done—get vaxed! FFT:So true. Ohio hospitals like elsewhere are reaching capacity. Children’s Hospital,Columbus, also seeing many cases of respiratory distress plus COVID. In my county, cases up nearly 200% last 14 days. No mask mandate in local schools! FreeDUMB, thx trumpies. I also had a great-grandfather fight for Union, tho don’t know motivation. I guess one of my cousins has his sword from Battle of Chickamauga, maybe papers, too. My Dad’s side can be traced back to reaching these shores in 1620s. I know he and my mom would support helping Afghans. I just contacted the FELC church where they were married to see if they are sponsoring anyone. They had a Central AM family in sanctuary till orange fascist left WH. Everyone take care.
Cats can be self centered, but they are also loving And they can be defenders. I doubt I can find it now, but I did see a story years ago about a cat who went after a dog that was threarening the cat’s toddle. And then there’s the one that chased the bear out of the humans’ yard (thta was in Alaska IIRC.0 More courage in their smallest claws than GQPers have in their whole bodies. Most animals do. have you seen any of the cat videos that don’t appear every day but do show up sometimes in my video thread?
