If, however, there were a push to replace it, there would be lots of people pushing for “God Bless America,” which I would not favor. I could live with “America the Beautiful” if (and only if) we used the second or third verse chorus “America! America! God mend thine every flaw! Confirm thy soul in self-control, thy liberty in law.” The first chorus wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for the fact that everyone hears it as being past indicative, when if fact it is present subjunctive. It’s not a statement that God has shed his grace, but a plea that God will shed his grace (and cron the good with brotherhood.) Even so, it’s not the strong admissin of imperfection that the other is. And if there was ever a nation which had a desperate need to admit its imperfections, it’s us and it’s now.

As more facts come to light, it’s clear the Trump coup began long before 1/6/21 – or even 11/3/20.

I still can remember Canada’s national anthem from when I had hearing. I think it’s the loveliest one going.
JM: Sounds good doesn’t it? But it also sounds like the Select Committee will take even more time before they can start/finish their investigation because they need to look into what they’ve handed over, weed out any doublures, maybe changes their focus a little etcetera. We need to be really patient.
RA: I don’t think RA had expected Faux News to react any different. This was all part of the plan.

BB: I hadn’t seen Betty for a while but she sure made up with this double portion of religious nastiness. She brings that so well, including the bullying of children. Her trying to turn the children into Gestapo/Stasi informers is truly chilling.
Beau: There are few national anthems that can bear scrutiny, especially when they’re a little older and date from some unsavoury days in the history of the country or the world. And yes, plenty of them are racist. But for America to start a discussion on the anthem would be a grave mistake. There isn’t a chance in the world people could unite on a new one at this point in history.
Good point. Probably the best we can hope foris to establish that the actual anthem consist of the first verse only. Though even that is questionable.
