Yesterday was quiet enough – in fact it was significantly more quiet than usual because I now have no phone service at all on my land line … so no robocall rings. But the technician supposedly comes today. Hopefully that will provide resolution.

The Daily Beast – Opinion – Former Murdoch Exec: Fox News Is Poison For America
Quote – Fox News has caused many millions of Americans—most of them Republicans (as my wife and I were for 50 years)—to believe things that simply are not true. For example, Yahoo News reports that 73 percent of Republicans blame “left-wing protesters” for the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. Of course, that is ludicrous. All one has to do is look at the pictures or videos of the attack to see that the violent mob was comprised of Trump supporters. Similarly, a poll by SSRS in late April found that two-thirds of Republicans either believe or suspect that the election was stolen from Trump—60 percent saying there is “hard evidence” that the election was stolen. As noted above, this ridiculous notion has been thoroughly refuted. But millions of Americans believe these falsehoods because they have been drilled into their minds, night after night, by Fox News.

The Hill – Eric Adams wins New York City mayoral primary
Quote – “Now we must focus on winning in November so that we can deliver on the promise of this great city for those who are struggling, who are underserved, and who are committed to a safe, fair, affordable future for all New Yorkers,” he said…. The race is the first in which the board sought to implement ranked-choice voting, which allows voters to list five candidates in order of preference.
Click through for some details. I disn’t follow this race, but did follow the Manhattan DA Dem primary, which Alvin Bragg won.Hopefully they will work together well.

Reuters – Judge finds U.S. 60% responsible for 2017 Texas church mass shooting
Quote – In a decision released on Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Xavier Rodriguez said the Air Force did not use reasonable care when it failed to enter Devin Patrick Kelley’s plea to domestic violence charges in a database used for background checks for those buying firearms. Rodriguez said the government bore “significant responsibility” for harm to victims of the Nov. 5, 2017 massacre at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, 31 miles (50 km) east of San Antonio.
Click through for background. Even if you remember it, it’s been a while, and a lot has happened in the meantime.

  1. Eric Adams Wins NYC Mayoral Primary

I wish him well.  Don’t know enough about NYC politics to really comment, but at least he’s not de Blasio.

Judge Finds U.S. 60% Responsible for 2017 Texas Church Massacre

Twenty-six innocent people killed and 22 more injured.  While in the Air Force Kelley was convicted of assaulting his wife and stepson, causing a skull fracture of his stepson.  How could the Air Force NOT report these facts to the appropriate database agencies?

I’m sure it’ll be appealed, but I hope the families prevail.

GQPers don’t just say the quiet parts out loud now – they SCREAM THEM!

  2. Re: Your phone service out of commission. Sorry! Hope it gets fixed quickly for you. Thank you for your post, Joanne.
    Cartoon: Good Grief!
DB: Don’t listen, or watch Faux. All lies. Never have, nor will I start doing so. My family does same.
The Hill: Now…good that he’s won the primary, hopefully he’ll win in November!
Reuters: Wow…this is sad for those who died, and the Air Force not completing the job in checking Kelly’s background/history.
FFT: UGH! They all need to be quiet and sit the H down. and…yes, there are more like him. Think cockroaches…

    • TJI #1 – LOL!
TJI #2 – It takes maturity to understand love (not necessarily age, but age usually doesn’t hurt.)
      TJI #3 – Yup.
TJI #4 & 5 -Nancy rocks – and so does Fred.

    • TJI #1 – Sad, but I’m sure Ivanka will be able to grift something out of her jail time.

TJI #2 – I would love to be one of the 300 guests at their upcoming anniversary shindig!

TJI #3 – Documents of death – if not literally, then metaphorically.  (I’m not even going to say which one I prefer.)

  3. JD, hope your phone is repaired soon, even tho robocalls,LOL! Do you have a cell for back-up? I have a cheapo, pay as u go one. Has been handy for reporting MAGAs trespassing, running over my (former) anti-tRUMP yard sign and when my late doggo used to lead me to drug houses—-life in wunderland? Ditto to all the political comments above. Take care.

    • I do, not for backup, but for emergencies away from home.  But I never give out the number because I once lost phone contact with my mechanic for several years because they thought it was my primary and kept leaving messages which I never heard.  I don’t even know what the number is myself.  No one showed up at the door, and I haven’t checked the phones yet to see whether they have service – they definitely have not rung.  More tomorrow morning.

  4. Cartoon: Yep, that’s their heartless way.
Daily Beast: I’ll never understand why people even watch that crappy Faux news.
The Hill: Great news. Hope he continues and wins in November.
Reuters: Shameful. The Air Force should of been held more responsible for it. All those innocent people killed and injured.
Food for Thought: Yes, the stinking Repugs loved it when tRump was in office. Like tRump they were worthless, doing nothing. I honestly hope that they’re voted out of their seats. We need ones who do and care for the people, not ones who kiss tRUmp’s as*.
Hope your phone issue was resolved. I get sick of those Robocalls too. I report them, which blocks the same ones from calling. Still get new numbers, that I turn in too.
Hope you have a nice afternoon/evening.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

  5. TJI#1: I can’t wait to see her family wearing them.
TJI#2: Lovely couple. Seen them on the tv the other night, appreciate their love they show for one another.
TJI#3: Good, now prosecute him to the fullest.
TJI#4 &5: Nancy the best, she’s so powerful.

  6. DB: Rupert Murdoch, and his Faux News, and Faux N.Y.Post, is responsible, in major ways for the huge divide in the country.  This fellow is just saying what we’ve known for years.
TH: I did not follow this race either, have no opinion.
Reuters: Covering up does none any good, except for the bad guys.
FFT: That’s them.  In effect, IMHO, more treason, just quiet treason.

  7. TJI31: How many shades of orange will she find?
TJI#2: A classy couple.  He was the first victim of Reagan’s evil.
TJI#3: I have no doubt about it.
TJI#4&5: There are positive aspects to Nancy, and then there is some inability to get shit done.  Well, maybe that’s not fair, the House did pass the needed legislation, where is Chuck?

  8. Sad that your landline needs to break down completely before you’re spared those robocalls, Joanne. Depending on how many you get, they can be categorised on a scale from nuisance to torture.

Cartoon: I always thought this one should read: Thou honorest thy Mother and Father. Then We cut their benefits.

DB: This former Murdoch executive can’t possibly believe that Faux News is only now poisoning Republican minds. So why didn’t he speak out earlier, when he was still on the job? Typical Republican behaviour, shift the blame and clear your own a$$.

TH: I know far too little about this election besides the very unfortunate muddle-up which gave Republicans an open goal to score. So I just hope that Adams is the best Democrat for the job and that he wins in November.

Reuters: The judge ruled that the Airforce carried the majority of the blame (60%) because of their gross negligence. That is a very significant ruling, I should think. which may lead the way to better gun control and adherence to gun control.

FFT: Apparently the GQP has guts enough to say it out loud now. And next week Roy will rage in the House that Democrats refuse to work along bipartisan lines.
