I checked around and the most promising one which is also the one that clearly shows on the map it serves my area) has a contact me form. I tried on both browsers (some sites don’t like one or the other, and when I still had no answer i called and reached someone. So, 2:00 pm today he will be here and change it. Then I will look into vaccine appointments – not that I haven’t already, and they seem to be available and plentiful. I will keep you posted, of course.

Short Takes

The Hill – New report highlights severe intelligence failures on Jan. 6 Personally, I’m not sure you can call it a “failure” of intelligence when deliberate ignoring is involved, but whatever
Quote: “The failures are obvious. I think to me it was all summed up by one of the things in our report where one of the officers was heard on the radio that day asking the tragically simple question: ‘Does anybody have a plan?’ Sadly, no one did,” said Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), chair of the Senate Rules Committee.

Mother Jones – How the 2022 Midterms Could Be Shaped by a Few Easy-to-Ignore Elections This Year I don’t think it’s any too early to be thinking about midtersm.
Quote: Chaz Nuttycombe, the director of Virginia-based election forecaster CNalysis, explains, “Democrats wouldn’t be in the majority in the Virginia House if Trump had lost in 2016.”

BBC News – ANOM: Hundreds arrested in massive global crime sting using messaging app This is makinging all kinds of news – the BBC article is explained the most simply.
Quote: More than 800 suspected criminals have been arrested worldwide after being tricked into using an FBI-run encrypted messaging app, officials say. The operation, jointly conceived by Australia and the FBI, saw devices with the ANOM app secretly distributed among criminals, allowing police to monitor their chats about drug smuggling, money laundering and even murder plots.

Food for Thought: Are you in need of a new welcome mat for your front door (outside or inside)? John Paclovitz is offering two peaachy-keen ones. My favorite:

  1. Well, that sounds promising!
‘Toon: 1978??!!  The followers of Joseph Smith sure took their darned time!
TH: “Failure?”  “Intelligence?” The latter is an oxymoron when one’s Commander-in-Cheif is dumber than a sack of hammers, “Plan?”…sure, TOT had one, a plan of sedition!
MJ: Safari can’t open the page,” but the point about the Virginia House makes sense, as a backlash.  But, the Dems need to aggressively build on that success, and on the fealty the QOP is showing the TOT.
BBC: I saw this yesterday.  HAPPY, HAPPY!
    Unwelcome Mat…Great!

    • I can’t help you with Mother jones … but that’s surprising … although there seem to be massive problems all over the Internet today, and especually with large (high traffic) sites.

But PolitiZoom I may be able to help wioth (and it does seem to be the onlt place those writers are writing now.)  Thay have a webmaster address which you can email to for help with problems or even just to report ehm.  It’s webmaster at politizoom dot com.  Safari was designed to work well with Mac products, and I gather that iit’s very successful in that (and I love the names they use for their versions).  But it is different and I’m not a browser expert even on PC.

  2. I recently needed a new car battery and when I did my “due diligence” I found that Costco had the best price, hands down.

But unfortunately they don’t install them – just sell them.

Even though they’re relatively easy to install, I needed it done in short order so I could make it up to my Aunt’s funeral and not worry about being stranded in an Iowa cornfield.

    “DOES ANYBODY HAVE A PLAN?”

Not a bad question for the entire four years Donnie occupied our Oval Office.

    • Of course you had the foresight to buy it while you still were able to get there to do it  While we are on the subject of pricing, the fellow who made the first jump attempts told be he had once had an Oprima battery which lasted I think 12 years but it could have been longer, and under far less than optimum conditions.  I looked them up for grins, and (I think thay have one that’s less, but) basically they astart at $230 and go up.  If I’m going to spend that kind of money on a convenience, I think I’d rather have a self-cleaning cat bok.  And I know their simple to install, they do require a certain amount of physical strength which I don’t have.  My arms and hands are nimble but not powerful  But thanks for the thought.  I’m no stranger to ordering auto parts and then getting pros  to install them (or doing it myself if it’s not that emanding), and I can recommend it as a method as long as you know exactly what you need.

  3. Cartoon: Interesting. I did not know that.  (there’s a lot I don’t know.. lol.)
The Hill: All in denial … sad day all around.
MJ: We can’t afford to slacken our base, and our messages, and be wary at all costs. Go Dems!!
BBC: Excellent and great work, detectives and law enforcement!
    Food for Thought: Excellent

Good news for you! Glad that they will be arriving, and helping you. The vaccine sites here are slowing down, as most folks got the vaccine(s). I hope that that goes well for you too. Thanks, Joanne for posting.

Re: “During a proceeding to determine if one of Trump’s fascist acolytes who transported arms to the Capitol on January 6 should be released from custody._ _ “The steady drumbeat that inspired defendant to take up arms has not faded away; six months later, the canard that the election was stolen is being repeated daily on major news outlets and from the corridors of power in state and federal government, not to mention in the near-daily fulminations of former President Trump.” ~ Federal Judge Amy Berman Jackson ~
    2. “I’m on my way to the U.K. and Europe today for the first foreign trip of my presidency. I know that democracies can rally together to meet the challenges of this new age – this week, in Europe, we have the chance to prove that.” ~ President Joe Biden ~
    3. re: Matt Gaetz – “Elected officials don’t have the right to break the laws the rest of us have to follow. And they also shouldn’t be able to obstruct justice when they’re under investigation. If anything, the bar should be higher for our elected officials. Congress, after all, writes the laws that form the architecture of our criminal justice system and should be responsible for obeying them.” ~ Joyce Vance ~
    4. “Dear Corporate America, do you want to operate in a democracy with the rule of law, where science and the voices of the future are heeded? Or an autocracy fueled by grievance & small-mindedness, ruled by those who represent a shrinking part of the nation? Sort of time to decide.” ~ Dan Rather ~
    5. “Rep. Val Demings just announced her campaign for Senate against Marco Rubio.” ~ Scott Dworkin ~

    • TJI #1 – Amy Berman Jackson is the Amy who should have been on the Suporeme Court. On the other hand, we kind of need her where she is right now.
TJI #3 – “If anything, the bar should be higher for our elected officials.” Yes, it should. That concept is known as “noblesse oblige,” and I was brought up to believe that. If you are, temporarily or permanently, for whatever reason, in a position of power, you put in as much effort as it takes you not to abuse that position and power. It’s a very old idea, and has never been perfectly observed, but these yoyos don’t even have the slightest inclination to observe it.
TJI #4 – I’d think Dan would know it’s the latter … except for a few who have already instituted fair pay and good working conditions and are making money hand over fist because of it.
TJI #5 – I love Val. I wish I felt better about her chances.

    • TJI #6. “This experiment in Democracy is not self-executing. It doesn’t happen automatically.”
      ~ Barack Obama ~  H/T JD

  4. Cartoon: I, like Pat, was not aware of that. Learn something new each day.
The Hill: Awful to continue to read that they keep finding ways to ignore the facts/truth. Shame on them.
MJ: I hope that the Democrats will be all powered up and ready to fight for the seats that will be open.
BBC: Way to go FBI. Bravo to them. I seen it on the news this morning. May they continue finding even more.
Food for Thought: Good ones. Like them both.
Glad you were able to get your battery replacement scheduled. Hope it went well.
For some reason I had thought you had your Covid-19 vaccines. Good luck getting your appointment. They’ve been saying fewer people are getting them, that there shouldn’t be any problem for you making or finding  appointments.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

    • Unfortunately, they won’t bring vaccines to you if you’re just a person and not, say, a nursing home.  So I just quarantined instead.  But it’s time.
