I decided that the Republican’s Orwellian hypocrisy of this magnitude rewriting the history of their 1/6/21 Riot, Siege and Insurrection needs to be memorialized.

True to form, Republicans, when faced with facts they don’t like, will simply lie and deny them.  Then turn right around and whitewash them to comport to their delusions.  The recent classic example is by Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA), who actually claimed that the Trumpkins at our Capitol on 1/6/21 were just enjoying a “Normal Tourist Visit”.

According to Clyde and his buddies, these photos of “tourists” at the Capitol on 1/6/21 were just Trumpkins mildly misbehaving:

And these headlines documenting their Insurrection are obviously all just “Fake News”.

Stephen Colbert does his usual exemplary superb job of showcasing Rep. Andrew Clyde’s “Normal Capitol Tour” travelogue (with his tongue firmly planted in his cheek):

No doubt you’re thinking to yourselves:

“WOW!  Now that has GOT to be the Mother of All Hypocrisies!”

The real hypocrisy cherry-on-the-top is that recently a photo of Rep. Andrew “Normal-Tourist-Visit” Clyde emerged showing him at the entrance to the House Chamber while those rioting Trumpkins “tourists” were peacefully strolling about in the Rotunda and Halls.

The Inner Tubes had difficulty originally discerning whether Clyde was welcoming them or barricading them:

Then an even more recent photo surfaced of Clyde showing him screaming in abject terror!  (Looks like he went with barricading those “Normal Tourist Visitors”.)

But from the above WaPo video (that I could only link to) of those revisionist Republicans, I will agree that Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA) did happen to get one thing right at the very end of the tape

“The hypocrisy of this body is, indeed, disturbing.”

  1. Thank you for this.  Seriously, if Trump** can actually make people believe he won an election he lost by over 7 million votes, he could make them believe that these were tourists – or Antifa – too.  Those of us who still know truth from lies must not forget.

  2. An article to bookmark, Nameless. Thank you for putting so much time into making it; it is brilliant.

While I was reading, I started to think about the word “hypocrisy”. I think we need a new word for this type of behaviour because it has become stale and worn-out and frankly doesn’t convey what people like Andrew Clyde really are.

Hypocrisy is a word that used to convey something very distasteful: “is the practice of engaging in the same behavior or activity for which one criticizes another or the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one’s own behavior does not conform.” But the behaviour of Clyde and his ilk is beyond distasteful; it is deceitful, it is hurtful to others and it has become outright dangerous. It has become pure lunacy.

Does any other word come to mind?

  3. Thanks, Nameless.

That was just a normal tourist visitors’ day, just like the Enola Gay was just a sightseeing flight.  Also, I am in perfect health, the Pope is not Catholic, and bears NEVER, EVER shit in the woods!

  4. It’s actually frightening to think that TOT had all these folks follow his spiteful (and sick) thoughts and actions at OUR Capitol, of his wanting his followers to incite, and cause the insurrection by his words (and actions). He had a few TV monitors so he could watch the insurrectionists and the action going on too.

What bothers me to a great extent, is that the LIES that they perpetuate with their denial(s). Like it’s a walk in the park. Clyde is a liar, and knows within, that this was NOT ‘normal tourist visit(s), while he barricaded the door to the House, to keep the ‘rioters’ out. *wiki

I’ve been to the US Capitol a few times, and have enjoyed visiting all of the sites, in a respectful manner, and also, visiting the hallowed grounds of the Arlington National Cemetery. I can’t imagine acting otherwise.

Rest in Eternal Peace, Officer Sicknick. You will not be forgotten.

    Thank you, Nameless for post.

  5. I don’t believe any of these GOP cowards actually beleve the lies they help spread. They will say and do anything to acheve their final goal, which is power to control. And we are all expecting them to act like rational, caring, responsible adults. We are kidding ourselves if we think we can do anything while the Orange King is still their leader.
Rest in Peace Officer Sicknick. We will not allow you to be forgotten.

  6. You’ve done a wonderful job showing us the real facts of what took place on January 6, 2021.
It’s unbelievable to read/view what these violent people did all because of a poor flipping loser, tRump.
To think that someone like him could cause so much chaos, destroying so much within the Capital, threating, injuring and killing so many innocent people.
Now we have stinking repugs who want to sweep all of this under the rug, like it never happened. All because they still believe tRump’s LIES. Something is certainly wrong with them. Like they’ve been brainwashed by tRump.
Them calling this a “normal tourist visit day,” is despicable.
There’s no way on this Earth are we going to ever ignore or forget what happened on that day. I’m praying that many more of these rioter/terrorists are found and prosecuted for their part in this. That they can somehow hold tRump and his buddies responsible for igniting it in the first place.
We lost Officer Sicknick and many more were seriously injured, still suffering from this f***ing ordeal.
Officer Sicknick will be remember for sacrificing his life fighting to try and save our Capital.
    Thanks Nameless

  7. Thanks Nameless and infamy is the word that comes to my mind.  Similarly, given that the bill for the bipartisan investigation was built on the bill creating the 9/11 commission, the GOP, and Mitch, are showing no respect for precedent or traditions of Congress/Senate when they oppose it.

  8. Have you seen this?

February 23, 1836 began like any other day at the Alamo. Davy Crockett had just opened the gift shop, Jim Bowie was sharpening his “Arkansas toothpick” to give guests a demonstration of shaving with a big knife.. but something was wrong. For one thing, there were a lot more tourists than usual gathered outside the gates. Ordinarily, groups of five or six would stroll in, touring the old mission, buying a few souvenirs, like miniature Texas flags and coonskin caps, but trouble was brewing.
The Alamo employees could hear someone off in the distance, shouting at the gathered tourists to go en masse into the structure and take it over. “It’s a trial by combat!” screamed the emaciated speaker, wearing a MAGA hat and waving his arms around like a demented scarecrow.Suddenly more than 5,000 tourists moved forward. Some fired cannons and bear spray. The Alamo greeters at the entrance sensed trouble, and tried to barricade the door, but the tourists charged forward. Some were wearing T shirts that said, “Proud Boys use 3% of their brains.” They broke down the barricades and yelled threats to hang Davy and Jim.
William B Travis, known affectionately as “the Colonel,” signaled for help from the parapet, but the man he was trying to reach just sat back on a hill several hundred yards away, arms folded, his orange skin lit up by the rising sun. “There are good people on both sides,” he muttered to his idiot sons, Uday and Qusay, who knelt at his feet grunting and hooting. When the dust settled over the Alamo, the employees were all dead. “Remember the Alamo and its enthusiastic tourists,” became a popular saying, all the way back in Washington, DC.

  9. Yes, I just saw and read it.

Liked the shirts that the Proud Boys wore! LOL
    What a story !!!
    Thank you, Pam

  10. Thank you, Nameless, for putting their actions in plain talk.  They are unbelievable in their actions then and now.  I am sorry my fellow Kentuckians keep putting Mitch back in office.
