The Lincoln Project – “Zero Sum Game”

[The Cloud Converter seems to get more popular every day… but the line moves fast enough.]
While you are sleeping Republicans across the country are attempting to turn Trump’s mega nastiness into the law. Bills that would dramatically impact access to your constitutional rights to a ballot, laws that would restrict vote by mail, even make giving water to those waiting in line to vote illegal. Why? Why would Republicans make this the spine of their party? They said it in front of the Supreme Court of the United States. The only way they can combat the Democrats’ Voting advantage is to play dirty. Politics is a zero sum game. Because that’s what this is to them – a game. While you work, while you pray, while you’re fighting for your families, the fight for democracy goes on.

Justice Matters – Democracy Matters – Can’t hurt.

Why Do We Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? | National Geographic – My theory is that “we” – now meaning people all overt he world, although it was in the U.S. that it really got big – celebrate it because it always falls in Lent, and, being a celebration, exempts one from fasting for that day. The same is true of Saint Joseph (March 19), though that didn’t take off as much, probably because he wasn’t associated with a group that shines at PR.)

This seems to me like going to ridiculous extremes to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Who knew walruses cared?

The ultimate telemarketer prank. Good thing the script is all on screen. The announcers are laughing so hard it’s a challenge to hear.

  1. LP: Exactly! The GOP has become nothing less than a gang of legisbators.
    JM: I’ve subscribed.
RTE: Quite a story.  Hoping Wally survives, and thrives.
TM: I love it!  Many years ago, living in Brooklyn Heights, NYC, a girlfriend and I rented an apartment form a nice couple.  Being in the Heights any house could expect a visit from the Jehova’s Witnesses, who had a headquarters there.  On one occasion, our landlord, Bob, called us to come down and sit in on the “talk.”  Reintroduced us as brother and sister, living “together” upstairs.  I do not recall more specifics, but I do not believe the visitors were happy.
    Beau: Excellent points!

  2. LP: Of course, Republicans are lying about the zero-sum game too. They want to have MORE than their opponents:

JM: Well-meant but I think something stronger is needed to keep the GOP from determining the outcome of elections in their favour.

NG: Though there are plenty of Irish immigrants in Oz, St Patrick’s day isn’t celebrated as enthusiastically here. The fact that Oz is still ruled by a British monarch may have something to do with it.

RTE: The poor critter, it must be exhausted. All for a pint of Guinness.

TM: What a wonderful idea! So funny too, if you’re not a telemarketer that is.

Beau: Straight talk on an issue we’d almost forgotten it was an issue.

  3. Zero Sum Game

Oddly enough, the AZ lawyer saying the quiet parts out loud was in response to a question by (not-my-favorite) Justice Amy Coney Barrett:

A lawyer for the Arizona Republican Party gave a frank answer in oral arguments Tuesday when Justice Amy Coney Barrett asked why the GOP didn’t want to count votes cast in the wrong precinct on Election Day. “Because it puts us at a competitive disadvantage relative to Democrats,” lawyer Michael Carvin replied. “Politics is a zero-sum game, and every extra vote they get through unlawful interpretations of Section 2 hurts us.” Carvin was referring to Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, which bans voting practices that discriminate on the basis of race, color or language.

    The Democracy Pledge

A novel idea.  Obviously start w/ companies you KNOW will take the pledge (like Ben & Jerry’s) to put pressure on those that might be a bit wobbly.

Why Do We Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?

    Is this a trick question?
