It’s a crazy day here in the CatBox.  Yesterday, I was so confused that I took my 9 PM meds at 9 AM by mistake.  I had to call Hospice for instructions.  The time change is beating me up BIG Time.  I need to get as much rest as I can today, because tomorrow I have Shower Aides and grocery delivery from Store to Door.  Happy Hump Day!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 5:29 (average 6:03).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Cartoon:

Happy St. CATrick’s Day!!

  1. By all means rest.

Cartoon – Considering many believe the snake story is a metaphor for driving out all that was not authentic Christian (my way of putting it), the cartoon is probably pretty accurate. Of course there never were actual snakes in Ireland.

If it were opera, that would be called “luxury casting.”

    • P.S.  I signed an electronic note to congratulate Deb Haaland on her confirmation (because of course I did), and received the liveliest email in reply – too good not to share (all emphasis hers).

I want to sincerely thank you and all DFA members for supporting me since the beginning. From my first run for Congress in 2018 to this week’s confirmation as the next United States Secretary of the Interior, you have always been there for me.

DFA’s early and meaningful contributions have made it possible for me, a member of the Laguna Pueblo in New Mexico, to be the country’s first Native American Cabinet secretary.

Due to the help that DFA members have provided along the way, I will now lead the agency that is responsible for not only managing the nation’s public lands but also honoring and upholding its treaties with the Indigenous people from whom those lands were stolen.

To every single DFA member who made their voice heard in support of me — thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I am so honored that you have put your faith and trust in me to become the United States Secretary of the Interior and direct an agency that oversees our nation’s federally recognized Indian tribes and Alaska Native villages, one-fifth of all the land in the United States and 1.7 billion acres of our coastlines.

I will work prudently to protect our national parks, wildlife refuges, and other public lands, and to preserve biologically and culturally important sites.

I will carry your dedication with me as I continue the hard work to fight climate change and ensure that future generations have a habitable planet to live on.

As I have said before, growing up in my mother’s Pueblo household made me fierce. With this experience, I’ll be fierce for all of us, our planet, and all of our protected land.

Thank you for all that you do,

      Deb Haaland

  2. Cartoon: As they (R’s) should.
BFTP: What a great song. I miss George..
Get a good nap in, for some of that sleep. Hope that you have a good day, take good, good care, and Thanks, Tom.

*This just in: “Alexander Vindman’s brother, Army LT. Colonel Yevgeny Vindman, is promoted to full Colonel by President Biden. OFM (Orange Florida Man) did everything in his power to derail his career for telling the truth during his impeachment probe and even had him escorted out of the WH.” ~ Pete B. ~
    2. ‘Republican’ comes in the dictionary just after ‘reptile’ and just above ‘repugnant’.” ~ Julia Roberts ~
    3. Re: above – “And…’racist’, ‘rapist’, and ‘racism’!”  ~ Genean E. ~
    4. “Ted Cruz says Merrick Garland lacks Bill Barr’s integrity.” “You can’t lack something that doesn’t exist.”
    ~ Bruce W. ~
    5. “We have many arrows in our quiver.” ~ Nancy Pelosi ~
    6. “The Sunshine Act would remove standard time. There would be a ‘Daylight Saving Time’ all year.
    ~ Sue A. ~

    • TJI #1 – Isn’t that great? People are saying Alexander should get the same, and I’m for it – if he wants it. Most people are way too fast to say “This honor should happen” without considering the wiishes of the person they want to receive the honor.
TJI #4 – As a former math minor, sure you can. Merrick Garland lacks Bill Barr’s negative integrity. A negative times a negative is a positive – and in this case, very positive indeed.
TJI #6 – I can get behind that, certainly.

    • TJI #4: Cruz in Garland’s integrity; best joke I hear all week.

TJI #6: This idea started doing the rounds in Europe last year, but not all EU members could be brought on the same page during the COVID year.

  3. 4:23 Daylight saving and a medication regime do not mix well; your score tells the tale.

Cartoon: It’ll be harder for St Patrick to rid America from the Republican scourge than it was to chase a few snakes from Ireland that weren’t there to start with.

BFTP: Luxury casting indeed, Joanne: George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Jeff Lyne, Phil Collins, Ringo Starr, Mark King, Elton John, Jool Holland; a British get-together with egos put aside in 1987, probably for a good cause?

  4. It’s late, now, but I hope you have had a restful day.
    BFP: Wonderful!

  5. Cartoon: Isn’t that the way it goes?…one at a time?
BFTP: Great song by George and Eric. Sorry to hear there was a mix-up with your meds, hopefully Hospice was able to help you.
I hope you were able to get some rest today.
I definitely know what it’s like to not sleep well. I tend to wake up too early, like 4 AM and it’s frustrating not to be able to get back to sleep. I have no energy all day long.
Hope everything goes well tomorrow with your grocery delivery, plus with your Shower Aides visit too.
    Take care Tom

  6. Erin Go Bragh!

Hope you all had a Happy St. Paddy’s Day.

Good thing our Parade was canceled, because this is what it did all day:

  7. Thanks and Hugs to all!  No 26.
