COVID: A Year in Photos

Well, it will be a LONG time before I use photos in a GIF that really require captions for clarity.

It wasn’t that terribly hard to find out how and teach myself, but the process is slow, tedious and boring!

When I learned that Pres. Biden was going to address the nation last Thursday, marking the one-year anniversary of our lockdown, I decided I would do a “photo essay” type of post.

But since it’s been a top story for over a year, I wanted to try to find some photos we haven’t all seen dozens of times – which was a challenge.

And then I wasn’t sure how to categorize them into sections since they obviously all had an underlying common thread.  So there’s some overlap between the different GIFs.

No doubt a common impact of COVID here and around the world is that it’s made our lives much more insular and lonelier.

Of course it’s had a profound impact on the medical community

And its repercussions on individuals, families, friends, institutions and government will cause ripples for years and years to come.

I will close with a photo I’m sure we’ve all probably seen, but if I had to pick just one iconic photo representative our lives in the time of COVID, it’d be this:

  1. I’m in awe of your COVID anniversary page, Nameless. Thank you for putting so much effort into this beautiful and heartbreaking tribute to humanity during a pandemic that has already lasted a year and has killed millions of people and left millions of others to rue the day they were infected because of the terrible and lasting side-effects.

    • Thank you so much.

It was truly a labor of love for me.  I wanted some type of lasting memorial to mark the (largely avoidable) tragedies we’ve all suffered because of the malevolent incompetence of the other guy.

  2. Thank you so much for this … and it must have been, as TC would say, a pantsload of work.

I get most of my news from the internet so it tends to be either national, or sensational, or both.  I had missed things like the salute by the Thunderbirds, which I founf extremely touching.

I agree it’s a post for the ages- archival.

  3. Nameless.  This is one awesome piece!  As JD would say I would say, it must have taken a pantsload of work! 03

  4. Excellent, Nameless.  I had not previously seen the so touching last photo, which brought moisture to my eyes.

  5. Moved me, and getting choked up watching these pics. (gifs)
The last one…. Hugs and Comfort picture really got to me. No words, but very emotional.

Thank you, Nameless for your Anniversary tribute pictures for those lost or recovering from Covid, it sends a very strong message of the pain and sorrow one feels for all who have been effected and also, those who have survived.

A most compelling post and tribute. Thank you! (again)

  6. Outstanding, Nameless.
Love the collection you created to show us the full year of Covid-19 photos/displays.
Heart touching to see what it has done to so many, all throughout our country.
Sad moments we shall truly remember.
    Thanks Nameless

  7. thank you, this is beautiful
