Yesterday I said I expected to be back in the saddle today.  These are the circumstances I did not foresee.  When WWWendy went to the hospital Oncology Center to pick up my patches and pills, there was nobody there.  It was closed due to the ice blizzard.  I have a few pills left, but I now have a 25 mg patch on instead of the 100 mg I’m supposed to have.  I need to go back to bed, because being up makes the pain worse.  We hope WWWendy can get them today.  If so, I should be back tomorrow.  May your Hump Day be as Happy as mine is Crappy!

  1. I believe you said you’re on a Fentanyl patch (probably Duragesic).  If you have enough patches, there’s no reason you can’t combine the 25 mg. patches to get to 100 mg. – or at least close.

Just make sure the edges don’t touch.

I’m assuming they’re the 72-hour patch, so it’d probably be best to wait until it’s time to change so you don’t have to remember which one is the oldest one.

Since it’s Fentanyl, you might not have a huge supply of patches – but even if you don’t have enough for 100 mg., you might be able to get a boost beyond the 25 mg.

It’d be a good idea to check w/ your care provider to make sure that would be OK – but it’s a common protocol.

“For delivery rates in excess of 100 mcg/hour, multiple systems [patches] may be used.”

“This lowest dosage is designated as 12 mcg/hour (however, the actual dosage is 12.5 mcg/hour) to distinguish it from a 125 mcg/h dosage that could be prescribed by multiple patches.”

” If your prescribed dose is for more than one patch, make sure the edges of the patches do not touch or overlap.”

  2. We’re on rolling electrical blackouts of 30-60 minutes in the KCMO Metro because of the energy demand from subzero temps.  Actually it’s from North Dakota down to the northern part of Texas as part of the Southwest Power Pool.

So far I haven’t experienced it yet, but the bad thing is they give you NO warning when it’s going to happen.

They asked us to keep our temperatures between 65-68.  Since I only keep mine at 67, I bumped it up a degree to add a little comfort zone time to if/when I lose power.

I’ve got a fireplace – but I haven’t used it in over a decade, so I don’t feel comfortable doing so now.

I’m at the end of the cul de sac, so I can see up the street and only ONE person has cleared their driveway.  We’re supposed to get another inch tomorrow morning, and then get up to the low 20s in the afternoon.  So I’ll probably fire-up the snowblower and get out then.

    • We are up to 38°F, expecting more snow tomorrow afternoon and night, and after that “mostly sunny” for a week.  Since there’s less stmosphere, the sun is a pretty powerful snow remover … but it won’t reach the north sides.  Oh, well, there’s always boots.  I haven’t heard anything about outages – we do sometines have them without warning.

  3. I can’t help thinking of the old quip “If God had wanted Texans to ski, he would have ade BS white.” I’m not sure how that might translate to “Portlanders,” but maybe you do. And, Pat, that’s not aimed at you. Y’all come ski any time you want.

Cartoon – and I notice that doesn’t prevent her from doing all the housework. God forbid she shoule have eclampsia.

Blast – Kind of bittersweet. Wouldn’t it be great, though.

    • Joanne, Thank you for the sweet invite. Haven’t skied since I was a teenager at the Poconos.

  4. Cartoon: Yes, of course!
BFTP: Love this one. Brings back good memories.

Fingers crossed that WWWendy can get your pain meds and that you get a chance to rest. The snow here has turned into ice, so it makes it hard for not! to slip and slide. Thanks, Tom.
Glad that Nameless shared the information re: your pain, and what to do.
We too, are having those timed outages also. I’ve learned how to make a quick hot lunch or dinner in a matter of minutes, and or a bath/shower too, in minutes before the power goes off. LOL.  Hopefully, we’ll see higher temps the next couple days, so that the frigid weather goes away.

  5. Sorry to hear of your much not needed complicated complications.  By now, you may have been able to follow Nameless’ advice, and are, hopefully, doing better.
Yes, that’s the GOP birth control policy, BF&P.
    BFP: Great song.

  6. Cartoon: That’s their way, alright.
BFTP: One of Jim’s greatest hits.
Sorry to find out that Wendy wasn’t able to get your patches. Hopefully you can take Nameless’ suggestion for using your lower dose patches for the time being.
Mother Nature sure hasn’t been kind with the crazy weather going on everywhere.
I’m praying for all of you that are suffering from it; freezing, heavy rain/snow conditions, that’s also causing rolling blackouts. I pray that it improves quickly.
    Take care. Thanks TomCat

  7. The weather gods and the pain gods have it in for you, TomCat. Please make yourself as comfortable as you can and forget about the blog. Though I do hope you had a peek at Nameless’ advice because it is sound if you have a few patches of 25 mg left.

    3:57 Stylish.

Caroon: One they’re going to keep.

BFTP: You sure are on a roll with beautiful songs that bring back so many memories, TomCat.
