Meidas Touch parody (“Drivers License”)

NBC – TODAY – posted without comment

Nancy’s remarks on MCConnell. She is REALLY angry. This is the nearest I have evre heard her to incoherent (not that it’s very near, but less organized than usual.)

Parody Project – As a big fan of Gilbert and Sullivan, I really love this one. (TC, close your eyes and pretend the picture’s a dog.)

This should help to rehabilitate cats’ image from the parody.

Beau – This has kind of gotten lost in the trial news, but if it should happen, it could be good for us.

Keith from yesterday – I love Keith, but he is not being realistic about this.

  1. [DeJoy] Proposed USPS Plan Could Raise Prices …

We ALL want to see DeJoy booted – but that’s not something Biden can do.  It requires the USPS Board to get rid of the Postmaster General.  And that’s where it gets tricky.

Congress established a nine-member board of governors who are nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate. No more than five members of the board may belong to the same political party. Once confirmed to the board, governors can only be removed by the president “for cause”; that means their jobs are safe unless the president can show that they engaged in malfeasance or extreme neglect of duty. The board of governors, in turn, selects the postmaster general, who is not subject to Senate approval. And once appointed, the postmaster general can only be removed by the board, though it need not justify its decision.

The board of governors is dominated by Trump appointees….  Today, there are four Republicans and two Democrats on the board, plus three vacancies. One Democrat, Ron Bloom, is serving a holdover term, which means Biden can replace him at any time. Thus, Biden can fill four seats on the board of governors—a move that would flip the board, giving Democrats a 5–4 majority. The new president can then urge the Democratic members to remove DeJoy, which they can do by a majority vote.

The new board would include five Democrats—but one of them, Donald Lee Moak, is a Trump-appointed moderate who, along with the rest of the board, backed DeJoy when he came under fire for his alleged corruption….  And if Moak declined to join Biden’s nominees in firing DeJoy, the postmaster general would retain his position indefinitely.

Pelosi: ‘Cowardly Group of Republicans’ Allowed Trump’s Acquittal

    Yep.

The history of the world according to cats

Highlights: Giving the “gift” of a dead rat to the senior sailor.

Trying to fit into a teacup

Biting its owner (been there, done that, got the scars!)

Let’s talk about Republicans leaving the party

    Let’s hope it continues

    • So he could appoint four. Four Democrats if Bloom leaves.  I thought I had read that there were five vacancies and that all four currently sitting were Republican, and it occurred to me that to find Republicans who might very well work, all he’d need to to – or have his staff do – is approach the Republican Accountability Project  I’m sure they could come up with a slate of people who are conservative in nature but respect the Constitution.  But it looks as though that’s not a real option.  But he does need to get appointments made, and pretty fast.  And it wouldn’t hurt to quietly investigate Moak’s finances.  Why, except for curruption, would an actual Democrat suport De Joy, even if Trump** did appoint him?

  2. MT: So well put!  “Played?”  “F***in played?”  Oh, wait for March 4th, and the next letdown!
NBC: DeJoy, I have read, has long wanted to literally “own” the PO.  Biden needs to act, quickly to get his sorry ass out.
MSNBC: Poor  Nancy, not quite “allowed” to call BBTM, a bull shit artist, in plain English!
    PP: Wonderful!
Ted Ed: I have had cats, and do love them.  Dogs, too.
Beau: 140 on the call, in fact.  “They” are not even Progressives.  And they, then, did acquit Trump.  Didn’t care?  corrupt?  You betcha!  Move left, baby, move left!
Keith: “…and found wanting!”  I read that the Rethugs had vowed to call a huge number of “witnesses,” if the Dems called any, slowing things in D.C. to a total crawl.  If that’s the case, actually, even if it’s not the case, they have outmaneuvered Pelosi and Schumer once again.  Trump made us into a joke while in office, and once again, afterwards.
SDNY, where the hell are you?  Georgia, please get it going!

    • I hope no one buys into that “they outmaneuvered us” argument.  Our impeachment managers got everything into the record that needed to be there, including a sworn statement from a Republican representative confirming the truth of the Trump-McCarthy phone conversation, far better than if McCarthy had testified (and likely as not perjured himself.)  The only reason to have called more witnesses would be if that would have changed any Republican minds – and anyone with a brain and two eyes knows that it would not have.

  3. MT: This reflects how most of the QAnon adepts are feeling right now, crushed by the harsh reality of the last line: “And Joe undid it all in a week.”

NBC: Apparently, Biden can’t just sack DeJoy and the latter has got a whole bunch of Trumpians behind him on the board, supporting his plan to destroy the USPS so it will have to be privatized and sold to the highest bidder. And guess who that is. I hope Biden’s got some of his people looking into it before it is too late.

MSNBC: We all knew it was going to end like this and no matter how bad the argument was, it would be good enough as an excuse for the GOP. I don’t envy Pelosi her job at all. She knew this was coming too, still went ahead with it and now cant say in her own words what she really thinks of Mitch McConnell. Sadly, her desperation shines through a bit, but anyone else would have broken down or let one rip.

PP: Again a great parody put together by Don. But cat faces with human eyes are creepy.

TE: Thanks, from a cat lover.

Beau: Again, Beau speaks my language. America already has a centre-right party and it’s called the Democratic Party.  Which doesn’t mean that it would be bad if the disgruntled conservatives will start their own Centre-Right party, drawing voters away from the GOP. Until people realize that it would also draw people away from the current centre-right voters in the Democratic party, leaving it weakened too. And that still wouldn’t be too bad, if my experience with European, Australian, Israeli and African politics hasn’t taught me that the Centre-Right is far more likely to cooperate and form coalitions with the Richt and Extreme-Right than with the Left. And then America is where it started.

KO: Sadly, I must agree with Keith. Biden is doing all he can and is doing a terrific job, but the Far-Right, i.e. Republicans/Trumpians are just biding their time.

  4. Thanks for this, JD. The G&S parody has brightened my week already—MEEOOW! Great comments above from fellow great minds,LOL! Stay safe.
