It’s a busy day here in the Cat Box, as I expect Molly to arrive before I finish this.  That means I miss my morning nap and get a pain increase.  When Molly is here, I’ll have to ask her what Lona is like in person.  [later:  Molly says Lona is at least 80% nice and 10% feisty.] Happy Hump Day to all!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:46 (average 6:42).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

I’ll post an occasional pic so you can see how I’m eating with the stent.

Short Takes:

From Common Dreams (Hat-Tip Mitch [ours: not BBMMM]): Taking cues from former Presidents Gerald Ford and Barack Obama—who pardoned or ignored their predecessors’ crimes in the name of national unity and healing—President-elect Joe Biden has privately signaled to advisers that he is unlikely to pursue federal investigations of the Trump administration’s policies and actions, NBC News reported Tuesday.

According to the report, the president-elect has expressed concerns that investigating President Donald Trump or holding members of his administration accountable for wrongdoing would further divide a nation already deeply riven by political tensions, and that focusing on Trump would distract Biden from his forward-looking agenda.

Biden is said to be especially wary of probing Trump’s taxes or trying to undo any immunity the president may grant to his associates during his final weeks in office.

Put simply, one adviser said Biden “just wants to move on.”

“He’s going to be more oriented toward fixing the problems and moving forward than prosecuting them,” another Biden confidant told NBC News.

I do agree that Biden should be more oriented toward “fixing the problems and moving forward”. However, part of fixing the problem is appointing an AG who will do his/her job and prosecute the people responsible for worst crime wave by public officials in our nation’s history. Failure to do so guarantees that we will be moving backward, not forward!  RESIST!!

From Alternet: Jesse Barrett, husband of newly confirmed U.S. Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett, recently said he will continue private practice despite the ethical concerns that may arise due to his wife’s new position.

On the SouthBake Legal website, there is a congratulatory statement to the new Supreme Court justice. It also details what Jesse Barrett’s near future holds.

“SouthBank Legal enthusiastically congratulates Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett on her confirmation to the Supreme Court of the United States,” the statement began.

The statement, which commended Jesse Barrett for his work, also suggested that he will continue private practice.

It later added, “SouthBank Legal also congratulates Justice Barrett’s family, in particular her husband, Jesse. Since joining SouthBank Legal two years ago, Jesse has broadened the firm’s commercial litigation expertise, while building an impressive white-collar defense practice. Like Justice Barrett, Jesse has top-shelf legal ability, a relentless work ethic, and a resolute commitment to his professional obligations. About his practice, Jesse commented, ‘I look forward to continuing to help grow and lead SouthBank Legal’s litigation-related practice groups and serve our clients.'”

Injustice Amy Coney Bullshit ought to  recuse in any case the firm of her husband, lord, and master participates, as her pseudo-Catholic cult believes she must decide as he orders.  I don’t think she will. RESIST!!

From YouTube (Robert Reich Channel): Georgia Runoffs: How You Can Help Flip the Senate

Of course the Reich on the left, Robert Reich, is right. Both Loffler and Perdue typify the Reich on the right, the Republican Reich. Both govern for personal gain. Both are racist to a Republican extent. I fully agree with Robert’s suggestions!  RESIST!!

From YouTube (a blast of protest): We Stand With You

This is a perfect example of how we must all stand together for social justice.  RESIST!!

  1. Cartoon: Yes, bigtime!
Picture: Yum!! Looks good! and healthy too!
CD: Joe has a magnitude of ‘chores’ to get done when he get in the front door, but I agree, like you, on him having an AG who will perform his/her job to best of their abilities for the American people.
AN: Good grief. Making up their own rules as they go. Do they care? Nah!
RRC: Good video by Mr. Reich. Passing this on to friends too.
    BOP: Amen! Good song!

Hi, Molly, hope all is good with you. Hope that you have a good rest of your day, take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

*This just in: “Instead of fighting to defeat the Covid-19 pandemic that has killed over 242,000 Americans, the trump administration is spending it’s final days in office fighting a bogus voter fraud problem that does not exist. The Biden-Harris administration can’t come soon enough.” ~ Bernie Sanders ~
    2. “The Electoral College is an outdated system that distorts the will of the voters. It’s well past time that we pass my constitutional amendment to abolish it.” ~ Senator Jeff Merkley ~
    3. “Did Lindsey Graham really win re-election, OR did he have Jaime Harrison’s votes tossed out??” ~ Che B.~
    4. “You know who’s NOT going to treat dt like a baby? Cy Vance and Letitia James. (SDNY).” ~ Joy Reid ~
    5. “John Cornyn (TX), suggests it’s too soon to declare Biden the winner, because Puerto Rico is still ‘counting votes’. Puerto Rico does not get to vote. Puerto Rico is not a state, it’s still considered a territory. They would like to become the 51st state though.” ~ Nan M. ~
    6. p.s.  “Cornyn.. why do you care?? Now.. you’re thinking about PR? Where in the hell were you when #45 threw paper towels to the people??” ~ Ida J. ~

    • TJI #2 – As a matter of practical politics, I doubt that a Consrtitutional Amendment to abolish the EC could get past Congress, let alone ratified by the states, before the National Popular Vote Compact has been put into opertion in enough state that people cna see that the popular vote will not destroy everything we hold dear. That doe not mean Jeff should stop pushing it for now. on the contrary. It needs to be kept in plain sight.
TJI #3 – I don’t know enough about South Carolina to answer that. It certainly can’t be ruled out. In any case, vote tampering is a serious crime anywhere, but taking one’s vote tampering to someone else’s state is just mind boggling.
TJI #4 – Cy Vance is SDNY. Isn’t Tish James New York State?

  2. I had wondered about Molly’s apparent ability to be in two places at once. Thank you for explaining (I still suspect teleportation.)

Cartoon – a damned toxic one at that.

Food – a serious change from goop!

CD – I am not as worried about this as everyone else is who is screaming all over the internet. It really is not the President’s job to prosecute political enemies, and the media should not be asking him about it. An independent Department of Justice – which is what we are supposed to have even though it is organized in the Executive branch, should be looking at, investigating, and prosecuting crimes on their actual merits, and the President should stay out of it. In fact, how do you know he isn’t setting the nation up for a very strong prosecution specifically by emphasizing his personal absence from the process? And, in any case, what the hell else could he really say? Bottom line: it isn’t to Joe we need to look for satisfaction, but to his AG, and I’m sure there will be many well-worded petitions. (And also, there are state prosecutors, whose options are wide open.) I think harping on this only has the effect to drive people away from Joe when he needs us most, and I can’t help wondering if someone intends that.

AlterNet – Ethics violations are one thing, and crime is another – unless we make sure that ethics violations have criminal penalties. I was actually thinking about that recently in connection with Ginnie Thomas. Now there’s someone who needs investigating, and prosecuting if crime be found. And I doubt whether many people would cry if such an investigation leads straight to Clarence.

The good Reich – Great minds. Working as hard as we can to win the Georgia run-offs is what we should be spending our energy on, not worrying about any federal crimes when the DOJ is as corrupt as it is today.

Blast – and my advice, explicit and implicit, on all three short takes is exactly that.

    • I agree with Joanne’s point about Biden, or any president, prosecuting anyone.  Still, a president sets the tune for a culture, and if Biden is too much of a nice guy, that might nudge the DOJ to be too nice to Dumpness.

    • HELP!

Being In Absentia for a week, I am totally loss WRT this Lona/Molly thing.

Sounds like some transition of care for TC.  Given time constraints, any possibility you could provide a thumbnail summary of what’s going on?

I could go back and read all that I missed – but a BRIEF summary would by appreciated.

      TIA

      • Hey, I had to do a double take myself.  One of the people on TC’s care team is named Molly (I don’t remember her exact title).  Lona, a few months back, wad adopted by a cat whom she named Molly, and the name is on all our minds because, while you were laid up, Lona came close to having to evacuate from a bush fire and mentioned preparations for her and Molly.  Now she and TC are now conflating the two, basically because it makes a good story.  It has been a very exciting week.

  3. ‘Toon: And it does not even have a prostate!
A protein loaded breakfast, at that.
CD: Just moving on will leave a bad legacy, with those “entitled” bastards seeing that our culture does not provide consequences for criminal activity for them.  Lindsey-Pooh needs to be sanctioned, investigated, indicted and tried, for instance!  What he attempted is treasonous, IMHO!  And we can’t afford, for the sake of the republic, (“If you can keep it,” said Ben the Franklin) going down the road.
Alternet: Similar lesson, if allowed to do business as usual…just like Dumpy did.
RR: Funny how the theme of entitlement runs through today’s postings, eh?
    BOP: Good stuff!

  4. What did Molly say about the remaining 10%? 😬

Have to come back to you later.

  5. I’m running late today. I did respond on Nameless’ post this morning, but then had a few unexpected small home crises arise.
Hope your day went well and that you’re able to get some sleep tonight.
    Take care.
    Thanks TomCat

  6. 4:52 And you can eat them now; enjoy.

Cartoon: A leak? It should be in diapers.

I’m sorry, I think I’ve deleted your picture and possibly one of Nameless too. I didn’t notice until now, but it looks like most people have seen it.

CD: I’m 100% with you on this one, TomCat. Biden can’t let them get away with it if they have truly put themselves above the law and broke it. Sadly, not pursuing federal investigations of the Trump administration’s policies and actions will lead to a new divide; one between Democrats.

Alternet: If Amy Coney Barrett doesn’t recuse herself in regard to ethical concerns in relationship to her husband’s work, this will be enough to impeach her. Provided Democrats have the Senate majority, of course.

RR: Loffler and Perdue are bottom dwellers even among the GOP. I hope the people of Georgia show again they have more common sense in the pinkies than all the Trumpians in their state put together.

    BOP: Lovely protest song.

  7. Thanks and tired Hugs to all! 19
