Ticks – For sure. This old (VERY old) Girl Scout says amen to that.
Black Trans I and II – I like to think I have some empathy – but I admit I cannot even begin to imagine what it must be like to be transgender, let alone transgender, black, and female. I can intellectually grasp that transgender occurs when a soul (or spirit or personality or consciousness or whatever you choose to call it) of one gender is born into the body of the other gender (and I can see that that soul would feel irretrievably trapped – but I can’t imagine it.) Incidentally, I don’t understand why J. K. Rowling CAN’T grasp that intellectually – and disappointed is definitely not strong enough. I do wish I could be more optimistic about our chances of resolving this whole issue. But in view of the fact that we have not yet succeeded in resolving the othering of women, not the othering of black people, resolving the othering of trans people looks like a steep challenge. The only thing that could make it harder would be if a black trans woman converted to Judaism or Islam.
Quarantine – I already left a comment about getting challenged by RWNJs for wearing a mask – it’s on the Open Thread – so I’ll spare y’all the repeat.
Now too – One quarantine issue is that it becomes harder for domestic abuse victims to get away from the abusive situation. “It’s not the time to talk about sexual violence” – where in God’s name does that come from? I’ll just say I suspect if someone says that and you asked them, “When exactly would be the right time?” the answer you would get would be a lot of hemming and hawing but would boil down to “Never.”
