It’s a busy day, here in the CatBox. Store to Door is delivering groceries this afternoon, and I have to put them away. Tomorrow please expect no more than an Open Thread or Personal Update. It’s my day to get zapped with Radiation. WWWendy is taking me. When I return, I plan to have some chili con goop, so the green cloud I send north to Squatch will be radioactive.

Trump* Virus Update:
Cases: 1,266,785
Deaths: 74,962
Recovered: 213,138
Short Takes:
From Alternet: A new report from Vanity Fair’s Diana Falzone published Wednesday recounts a series of stories in which the federal government has allegedly seized personal protective equipment — desperately needed during the coronavirus crisis — from private hands.
One businessman who owns a medical equipment supply firm said the FBI contacted him on the suspicion he was price-gouging, which he said his profit margins disproved. But his future shipments of N95 masks, which he planned to sell to “fire departments, nursing homes, and EMT departments,” were seized by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, he said. Vanity fair reported that the document officials used to seize his orders cited President Donald Trump’s executive order claiming authority to determine the allocation of COVID-19 resources.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I overslept to the point that by the time I got up, you probably had your groceries put away … and I can’t guarantee I won’t do that again … but even if I am still in dreamland my heart will be with you at the zapping. (And with WWWendy. At least transportation should go smoothly this time.)
Last sane Republican left standing.
This tweet’s a week old now, but I’ve only seen it one place, and I felt it deserves more exposure.
Cartoon – Apparently, they didn’t then either. Or rather, they only surrendered from the shooting war. The ideological war stayed alive and well. And, I’m sorry to say, probably always will. You can’t fix morally stupid any more than you can fix intellectually stupid.
Map – There really is no legitimate reason for Michigan to look like that. Protesters with DeVos money did that.
AlterNet – I guess is has come to the point that anyone honestly running his or her own business (in other words, doing his or her job) qualifies as a hero. No wonder the rest of the world pities us. We are wretched.
Warzel – I’m so glad someone is presenting this. Sometimes someone has to be Captain Obvious, because the obvious is too close to see. Now we need someone, or a group, to systematically compile the responses when a
sane person says to one of these idiots, “But what about my freedom not to be shot and killed just doing ordinary things? What about my freedom to protect myself and my family from disease?” That could make ver interesting (if disgusting) reading.
Past – There is also an operatic Tenor named Bryan Hymel (pronounced ee-mel). That said, How very pertinent this is. The legal guardianship which separated teens when school was out have been, not replaced, but augmented by the necessity of preventing the spread of the pandemic, but the result is the same (I believe the virus cannot live more than a couple of hours on paper, so, if he doesn’t put a plastic sticker on the envelope and kiss that, the kiss should be safe.) I only wish we could have some confidence that in September it will be any different. I certainly don’t.
Cartoon: Yep….sons a B’s…..
TVU: We’re at 98 total for today, county wise. Gonna get worse before it gets better…
AN: Shameful !! So very cold blooded and with cold hearts to deny them what they need, during this time. ugh!
MSNBC: So sad. Terrible numbers of the deaths every day, with no help from dt’s government.
Good video, w/be passing this one on too.
Sounds like you have very busy two days here…hope that all goes well for your radiation treatment, and I’m relieved to read that WWWendy will be taking you there, and bringing you back home too. Eat to your heart’s content when you get home too. Get your rest too. Take good, good care, and Thanks, Tom.

7 May: VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day. Growing up, I liked to think that VE meant “Victory over Evil.” A good day to drink a toast and thank all those who made this victory possible – not just the soldiers and pilots, but the factory workers, victory garden growers, bond buyers, and collectors of materials to be recycled into war goods. Todays wars are fought quite differently and against very different foes, but they all require a group effort.
‘Toon: The Rethugs will not give up
MSNBC: Warzel puts it in proper perspective, sad though it may be. The NRA is an arm of billionaires, I’m willing to bet.
BFTP: I understand its sentimental value, but this one is not anything I would seek out.
Joanne’s Colin Powell quote is short, concise, and perfect!
Cartoon: Nope…the dumbas* R’s won’t.
TVU: We had another 104 cases with 7 more deaths here. We’re up to 4429 cases and 165 deaths.
AN: Despicable creep.
Did you hear that tRump’s valet has come down with Covid-19? Yet tRump states he had very little contact with him. He’s the one who serves tRump his breakfast and diet soda. Now they stated that the W. H. is going to change Covid weekly testing, to daily testing. Yet millions are waiting to be tested everywhere, but there isn’t any tests available for them.
MSNBC: Sad. I continue signing petitions to ban guns. Hard fighting against the rich billionaires.
BFTP: Good one.
Best of luck tomorrow with your radiation treatment/session. Hope it goes well. Glad that Wendy is taking you. Tell her “hello and thank you” for me.
Take care. Thanks TomCat
Good luck with your radiotherapy, TomCat. What I’ve heard of the radiotherapies friends were subjected to, they all literally just take seconds but the trip to and fro, the waiting and the adjusting eat into your time.

3:59 I should have had my coffee first.
Update: If the colours of this map weren’t so bold, things would be looking terribly bleak. The recovery rate is terribly low too, this number would mean you have +/- 1 million ACTIVE cases. Sounds about the right number to open the country back up, right?
Alternet: When Biden and Warren’s plan is implemented, the appointed inspector general will have such an enormous task before them, cleaning out that cesspit will take years.
MSNBC: I think Charlie Warzel hits the nail on the head in his analysis. Right-wing America has accepted the death toll arising from a lack of gun control, it has accepted to be led by a demented, lying, malignant narcissist (my two cents to his argument) and will now accept the daily rising death toll as the new normal. Note I say ‘right-wing America’ here. The majority now has te ‘sacred duty’ to prevent it from turning into Warzel’s general ‘America’.
BFTP: I know it well but it must have been from a new edition/cover; this Sealed with a Kiss from 1962 was much too early for me. It’s an evergreen in Europe too, but I never was much of a fan; too syrupy for me.
Art can do so much. (Also, great minds – see my comment today).
Thanks and hot Hurry Hugs to all.
