From Crooks and Liars: Welcome to the COVID-19 Games, where the tributes are governors fighting for the scraps of critical protective gear still available, and where success still depends on kissing Trump’s ass.
Last week Trump was playing quid pro quo with Americans lives, telling governors “it’s a two-way street. They have to treat us well.” The result of not doing so is not getting help. Take New York, which requested 30,000 ventilators and got 4,400. And is being outbid by FEMA on the private market, where the state has been trying to procure more. “What sense does this make?” Gov. Andrew Cuomo told reporters Tuesday. “The federal government, FEMA, should have been the purchasing agent. Buy everything, and then allocate it by need to the states.” Wisconsin’s Democratic Gov. Tony Evers asked for 190,000 nonsurgical masks from FEMA last week, and has struggled to find ventilators. He has no idea where the masks are.
On the other hand, Oklahoma asked for 16,000 face shields and got 120,000. It had received about 84,000 N95 masks by the end of last week, “more than twice its original request.” Then there’s Florida, which is expecting its third shipment from the feds. It got 100% of what Trump’s good buddy Gov. Ron DeSantis asked for in the first two shipments. Kentucky has gotten more than it requested. Illinois, Massachusetts, and Maine have only gotten part of what they’ve requested. (There you go, Sen. Susan Collins, more lessons learned for you.)
For governors to save their people, being just sycophants isn’t enough. They have to become suckophants too! RESIST!!

It made me laugh on a sad day. I realize anger is a part of the grieving process, but the anger we are now seeing, because, for instance there are attempts to count deaths as pneumonia when the pneumonia would not have existed but for COVID-19 – or people being told their loved one is being triaged and no, you can’t say good bye in person – that is not normal. That is something families should not have to be subjected to. And for every one we hear of, you know there are many more. Glad you liked it too.

Louisiana has a population of 4.66 million, while Florida has a pop. of 21.3, and Louisiana has more cases. Well, Gov. DeSantis has a cure for that, claim that the Florida churches are providing an “essential” service, and allow them to stay open. yeah, that’ll do the trick!
C&L: His Dumpiness was speaking as I begin to write. He got turned off quickly, but not before saying that “…no one would have expected New Jersey” to get so any cases. Well, a nobody like him. someone with a functioning brain might have figured that the state with the biggest connection to N.Y. might have been in the cross-hairs.

I’ve been trying to upload pics for my Friday Fun post, but it won’t let me.
I can upload “Insert from URL” – but when I do “Select Media to Upload” – nothing happens. It won’t open the file to upload them.
I’ve refreshed & rebooted – and made no difference.
Looks like it’ll have to be Saturday Smiles.
I don’t think I can help because I still use the classic editor, so what you are describing is kind of Greek to me. And when I add media to the library, I use the drag-and-drop.
I, too, use the Classic Editor (other required to steep & time-consuming learning curve).
I’ll have to look closer (hint) at how (hint-hint) to do (HINT) your Drag-and-Drop method (HINT-HINT!).
But I did manage to find a laborious work-around – so the post is up.
Nameless, WordPress just made a major …ahem… “upgrade” to version 5.4, so I suspect that’s the cause of your problem. All the graphics for my articles are uploaded using Open Live Writer. It’s free. I suggest you try it.

Update: What a day won’t do. Instead of 28 deaths for the whole of the US, New York alone reported 562 new deaths today. And its peak is yet to come.
C&L: I guess you’re lucky if you live in a red state where voters are expected to live and vote for Trump in November. Bad luck if you’re a Trump voter in New York and get sick; Trump isn’t taking any chances and wants to minimize the number of votes for a Democrat no matter what. The COVID-19 outbreak in New York is a blessing in Trump’s eyes.
MSNBC: Donald Trump understands one thing only: money. It’s not a question of understanding his job, its a question of being capable of doing the job. Even if he understands the job to be the two points you mention, TomCat, i.e. making the 1% even richer than they already are and establishing the 5th Reich, he wouldn’t be able to pull that off without the tireless efforts of the GOP.

CA has begun reporting hospital numbers of those with suspected virus (i.e., began when hospital couldn’t test due to no supplies or CDC policy did not permit)–those were more than double the confirmed cases last I checked…and worship services have been identified as primary source in several CA area, along with NY and DC’s first hot spot situations…as was true for Philadelphia in 1918…
I share Pat and Joanne’s view of the brave captain–CA headlines speak of whistleblower retaliation…and note the VA disability population among those not getting faster, streamlined $1200 checks as a sad statement of priorities…along with how many key civilian positions at the top of military branches’ commands are vacant…
