There was a SNAFU converting my meds to liquid, and I spent two hours on the phone cleaning up the mess, and then, my computer ate this entire article, so you’re reading a rewrite from scratch. I hove no doubt that US cases/capita are artificially very low, because criminal Fuhrer Trump* has made getting a test virtually impossible.

From Vox: President Donald Trump said on Friday that he will not adhere to a portion of the $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus bill that would authorize an inspector general to oversee how $500 billion in business loans will be spent.
In a statement released early Friday evening, Trump announced that he had signed into law the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security or CARES Act, a relief package aimed at mitigating some of the economic fallout caused by efforts to allay the spread of Covid-19.
That bill also establishes a Special Inspector General for Pandemic Recovery (SIGPR) within the Treasury Department to audit and investigate half a trillion dollars in loans for large businesses. In his signing statement, Trump said that this provision raises “constitutional concerns,” adding that his administration would not comply with such an official’s request for documents.
Congress also has oversight, and if criminal Fuhrer Trump* stonewalls again, it’s time for Congress to make him criminal Fuhrer Trump**. Nobody else will have ever been impeached twice. RESIST!!
From TPM: President Donald Trump reportedly wants his own personal touch on the assistance checks from the $2.2 trillion relief package.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump is pushing for his signature on the $1,200 checks that many individual Americans will soon receive now that the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act has been signed into law.
Don Hammond, a former official at the Treasury Department, told the Wall Street Journal that a disbursing officer’s signature would ordinarily be on the checks.
Under the new law, single American adults making $75,000 or less will receive $1,200, while married couples will receive $2,400 if they earn a combined total of $150,000 or less. The amount gradually decreases for those making over those two income figures.
There is no way that criminal Fuhrer Trump* should be allowed to take credit for the aid to common people, that he fought tooth and nail against, as an election SCAM. RESIST!!

Cartoon – Actually, I can only wish the results were that obvious.
Map – I was pretty sure we were nowhere near Italy on per capita. Switzerland and Spain are surprises. Under the “leadership” we have, I feel sure we’ll break this record also, given time – assuming there is anyone left alive to crunch the numbers.
Vox – J**** F****** C*****. Of course he won’t. I agree this is/would be a new impeachable offense (one of many).
WSJ – I realize that insanity is not a counter-indicator, but they’d be insane to issue paper checks where direct deposit information already exists and is on file – like Social Secuioty and SSI recipients and people who have such information on file with the IRS. Beside the waste of paper and the USPS’s resources, there’s the fact that direct deposit has no surfaces to spread the virus further. But we shall see.

Fortunately, if the government has your direct deposit information (going back to 2018 filings) – THAT is how the money will be issued.
So very few actual checks will be written.

That was my understanding from what I have been reading. I filed in 2018, but I neither owed nor was owed, so I doubt the info was there. I do receive Social Security by direct deposit … and it’s a different account than I use for IRS. So we shall see. But very few comparatively could still end up being quite a few in brute numbers.

Update: It’s the first time I’ve seen Switzerland in any chart; nobody here ever mentions it but their numbers are quite shocking:
However, Switzerland seems to be over its peak of new cases per day, but deaths will lag behind for 1-2 weeks after infection.
And you right on the US suppressing numbers of deaths, TomCat; when you reported 68,814 cases, deaths numbered 1,037, a far cry from the 210 given in this graph. The Swiss 254 reported deaths, however, are consistent over many sources.
Vox: “constitutional concerns”, yeah, right. Concerns that a Special Inspector General for Pandemic Recovery will make public all the share buy-backs that will take place now, and even stronger concerns that the SIGPR will show how much money goes into Trump-owned businesses like Mar-a-Lago.
TPM: I hope Democrats will prohibit Trump from signing these cheques as yet another free, and cheap, part of his campaign. He’s already taking credit for it, allowing him to sign it would confirm it. If he’s allowed to sign those cheques he should be forced to sign off on every positive COVID-19 test and death certificate of those who died from it.
