If Biden, Warren for VP

As bad as the Republican Recession of 2008 was, the Republican Recession of 2016 is far worse.  Isn’t it ironic that Crawford Caligula, Republican Fuhrer of the Fourth Reich, and Drumpfenfarten*, Republican Fuhrer of the Fifth Reich, will have both ended their regimes after killing thousands of Americans and tanking the economy.  If Bernie were winning the Democratic nomination for President, I’d suggest balancing the ticket with Amy Klobuchar, a moderate woman from middle America, or Kamala Harris, a moderate Black woman from the West Coast.  But since Joe is winning, I see only one good choice in a running mate for him.  He needs a progressive woman to balance the ticket, and there is only one progressive woman, who is the best choice.

Elizabeth Warren just brilliantly showed why Biden should pick her as VP — immediately.

Tuesday night, as Joe Biden was waiting for the polls to close in Florida, Illinois, and Arizona—states he would win handily—Elizabeth Warren published this…

Coronavirus: Elizabeth Warren presents $750 billion ‘grassroots’ plan to address crisis

I would still prefer Bernie to Joe, but If Joe wins and chooses Liz as his running mate, I think I could actually vote for him in the General without holding my nose.

  1. I like Ms. Warren. She knows what she is talking about and it’s all good for the people.
She cares and is down to earth, and that’s what I like about her.

  2. The only down side to picking Liz for VP is that, in Massachusetts, the Governor gets to pick any replacement he wants for a Senator, and Massachusetts is currently governed by a Republican.  I would suggest Katie Porter, Liz’s star pupil  If she’s having as much difficulty with fundraising as her emails are suggesting, we might lose her anyway..

Joe committed to a woman, but he didn’t commit to a woman of color (which could include Latinas.)  AOC is too young.  What do people think about Stacy Abrams?

  3. Right on – er, make that left on! The Dem nomination race started out so promising, and boiled down to – meh. I would definitely support Sanders, but looks as though Biden has the nomination by the arse. He is not the Falcons, and Sanders is not the Patriots.

Making Warren his running mate could be a great move. Then, perhaps, for the first time in history we’ll have some real estrogen in the White House!

  4. I’m all for Ms. Warren being in there. I have high respect for her.

  5. I’m a Stacy Abrams fan, and have said so before. I think she is sharp, and would possibly bring along more women than Liz.  I had been a Liz fan from the get-go, and am sorry she is no longer in the running, but I keep going back to the kind of coattails Biden may have.  I also, think that Liz and Biden, both being from the North East, essentially might cause some push-back.  Klobuchar seems nice but, indeed, boring.

  6. Biden has said he’d take a woman as a running mate and Warren still hasn’t professed her endorsement so it’s all up in the air and possible. But Hillary hasn’t shown very much wisdom in choosing her VP last time – does anyone remember Tim Kaine? – afraid to pick someone that would show her up, i.e. Bernie. So I think it’s unlikely Biden will pick one of the feisty women mentioned here, perhaps with the exception of Amy Klobuchar. She’ll melt into the background enough, just as Biden did for Obama.

  7. I think I’ve been boisterous in shouting my love, Love, LOVE of Sen. Warren.  But I actually am not a strong advocate for her being the VP candidate, for several reasons:

[1] She doesn’t add any Electoral College power: She’s from a state that almost assuredly will go for Biden

[2] She’s a powerhouse in the Senate & probably can accomplish more in that role – that strong voice would be lost

[3] There are other equally qualified women – even some of color (Sen. Harris, Stacey Abrams, Rep. Val Demings (D-FL), who was brilliant in the Impeachment Hearings)

[4] Her age doesn’t help to “groom” her to be the succeeding Democratic presidential candidate – unless Biden only takes one term

  8. Thanks and tired TGIF Hugs to all. 17

Nameless and JD, those are good points!

  9. Sorry, I’m late to the party. I don’t support taking ANY sitting Democratic Senator out of the Senate at this time for any reason. We need every single one of them and more. McConnell is calling federal judges and urging early retirements so that Trump can fill their spots – a sure sign of panic on the right – and telling them that it might be eight years before a republican can appoint judges again. We need more Democrats in the Senate, we can’t lose any. Not to vice president, a useless office in the main, though with Biden’s health an issue, it might be more important who that is than usual. I support Stacey Abrams, I think she’d balance the ticket nicely and if worse comes to worst, she’d make a fine President too. Our first female President, or would be in position in four years (have also heard Joe might want only one term) or eight years to become President. I feel the same way about Cabinet positions, I don’t want to lose any Democratic Senators there either. There are plenty of qualified people without raiding the Senate for any of those jobs.

  10. Gene, Nameless made a similar point, and I replied.  As much as I think Warren would add to the ticket, you make an excellent point. 04
