Super Tuesday or Pooper Tuesday

Well, I trust you have already surmised that I am are not Happy with the Super Tuesday primary results.  I have come to the same conclusion about most of you.  I blame Jim Clyburn, Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, and Beto O’Rourke for the size of Biden’s win.  I also blame young Americans who sat out the primaries en masse.  I guess they had something better to do, like playing on social media.  Shame!

Well, it’ll still be days or weeks before we have the full vote total in California, and it’s still too close to call in Maine, but with Texas now in the win column for Biden, this evening’s top-line takeaway is even clearer: Biden mounted a comeback and won Super Tuesday.

In total, Biden won nine of the 15 primary contests at stake tonight, pulling off a number of upset victories, including a win in Minnesota (we’d projected Sanders would win there), a win in Massachusetts (Sanders again), and a win in Texas (that was more of a toss-up going into tonight), but basically Biden cleaned up across the board. He performed well in states where he wasn’t even really competing, and he proved he’s more than a regional candidate.

Sanders, on the other hand, did not have a great evening. He won just three states outright (Colorado, Utah and Vermont) and underperformed expectations. So far, he does seem on track to win delegate-rich California, though we won’t know the exact margin for a while yet.

Once all the Super Tuesday results are fully counted, 38 percent of delegates will have been awarded in the primary race, but this nomination fight is far from over, and there’s a real question about where it will go from here…

The Big Winner was Joe, but the Biggest loser wasn’t Bernie.  It was Billionaire Bloombarf, who spent all those $millions for nothing.  When California delegates are fully allocated, it will pull Bernie closer, but I would be surprised if Joe does not lead when done.

Liz Warren’s results were also very disappointing.  At this point, I see no viable way for her to win the nomination.  I think it’s time for her to drop out, as much as I hate to say it.  The biggest irony here, is that either Liz or Bernie would do far more for the Black Community than Joe would.

Nevertheless, whoever wins the Democratic nomination, even if it’s Joe, is MY candidate.

I’ll post another sheet when all the delegates from Pooper Tuesday states are allocated.

  1. While I’d rather we went for Warren, I am still, under the circumstances, proud of Colorado.

I’m not sure it was truly for nothing that Bloomberg spent all those millions. It didn’t gain anything for his candidacy, but it did accomplish some good anti-Trump messaging, which may help get Trump ut, and thus be a a something in the long run. He has said that getting Trump out is his intention and desire, and he has said that he will keep spending to that end even if he is not the candidate. So we shall see.

  2. I was surprised at the numbers coming out of TX for Biden, as I was for Warren all the way!
Like you, if Biden ends up being the Peanut Butter & Jelly of our Dem nomination, I’ll vote BLUE, no matter who!
    Great post, Tom. thx!

  3. My millennial son told me that his cohort is strong for “Bernie or Bust!”  I told him it would be a shame if they helped put Dump shit in the WH, again.  and, I sent him the Randy Rainbow vi. that Pat posted.  I was disappointed, in the same ways you were, really though Liz would do better than she did.  Yes, it may be time to leave the quest, and make up with Bernie.  A Joe/Liz ticket sounds weird, but probably viable.
If the Obama V.P. puts the Orange Empty out of office, the latter will be seen mumbling under his breath, some form of word-salad, revolving around the locus of “WTF? How in hell did that, wait, it must be the virus that Obama let loose….” for the rest of his remaining life,

  4. I’m glad everyone here is going to vote for Biden when he becomes the Democrat’s choice; he’s going to need it. A lot of young Democrats won’t, I fear, fed up with the hold the establishment has on the party, pushing Bernie out twice.

  5. Looks like I get to play my customary Contrarian Role again.

To Preface: Sen. Warren was my 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice!  Followed by Mayor Pete and then Sen. Klobuchar. Sadly, I’m 0-for-3.  *sigh*

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Sen. Warren’s campaign.  She has been humble, humorous, tireless, deeply compassionate, sincere, substantive and authentic.  Her numerous Plans were well-reasoned, thoughtful and achievable. And as a debater she was head-and-shoulders above everyone else on the stage in EACH DEBATE!

Why she didn’t ignite the populous, I do not know.  We elected Pres. Obama, so I know we’re ready for someone of that caliber.

BUT the voters have pretty much now spoken WRT her nonexistent path forward.

That said, I do NOT want her to dropout – at least not until after the March 15th debate.  She is such a clarion voice for the Democratic Party I would hate to not have the opportunity to enjoy her wisdom and contribution yet again one more time.

She will no doubt to continue to gather delegates, which will only strengthen her position at the Convention.

But I hear she and Bernie are talking – so I don’t know what will happen.

While I had no admiration for Bloomberg’s political acumen (other than his strong advocacy for gun control) – I will say he produced very professional political ads. And now he can fully aim that at *Rump – so I hope *Rump keeps on mocking him.

Some examples of what I liked:

  7. Nameless, you said you wanted to see her in the 3/15 debate, before she withdrew.  It’s too late to see her in that because she already suspended. 09
