Cartoon – Ben knew too much about birds and too little about people. He had no idea breeders were going to make turkeys into laughingstocks, and was thinking of the quite respectable wild turkey. He thought the eagle was too unscrupulous, and too scary therefore. But th eagle actually nails Republicans (although it’s much better looking.) Vultures are actually more respectable IMO.
ADL – In the turmoil we are going through, with even the term “white supremacy” working to place emphasis on skin color, it’s easy for decent people to miss that Jews are just as much a target as black and brown people. In my opinion, if crazy “Christians” want to look for demonic influence on people, they need look no further than look at people who are antisemitic (although that would involve looking in mirrors, so it’s unlikely to happen.) Update: Even the spectacle of Stephen Miller, BTW, is nothing new under the sun.
CNN – Absolutely everyone in the House and Senate knows how guilty he is. As does any American who has been paying attention (quite possibly, even a big chunk of those who only watch Fox News. Shep Smith hasn’t been gone all that long, and Napolitano, though not allowed as much air time as he once was, is still there.) CNN, for one reason or another, is coming from a position of belief that evidence, including witnesses, is of any importance to the Senate in this trial. Perhaps they are aware that that is at best a pretense, but it’s not coming through in their coverage. I think it should be.
SNL – I want to be clear that I typed all of my comment about the ADL clip BEFORE I watched this. That said, how wonderfully creative. Nothing to add. Just perfect.
I’m sure y’all know that I really don’t care about sports. I do, however, care about the people who play those sports, as I care about all people. With that in mind –

I am certainly not a basketball fan. I watch it rarely, at most. Kobe’s goodness extended far beyond the court. Condolences and prayeas to all the families who lost loved ones in that crash.
And also to all the children who were eagerly awaiting his arrive to coach (and his daughter’s, to play. Someone at DU posted a heartbreaking photo of them.
Ben Franklin never actually suggested that the wild turkey be our national symbol. He called the bald eagle a “bird of bad moral character” and said that the turkey was “in comparison a more respectable bird.”

NYT: As the Jewish daughter of a mother who was the only survivor of the holocaust in her family, I believe I have the right to say that it has been, almost traditionally, the Jews then and now, but also the Muslims, or people of colour, or Palestinians, or even the bogey man, who were used by those ruling to instil fear in people so that they focus on ‘them’ and not on those who actually need to be feared.
Of course, the liberation of Auschwitz 75 years ago needs to be remembered, and because most of those who died there were Jewish (1 million) the rise of anti-Semitism needs to be pointed out and condemned. Of course. But Charlottesville was not only about Jews and even Hitler’s Endlosung wasn’t only about Jews; let’s not forget the millions of others, like Roma and other ethnic groups, LGBT people, socialists…who have died in the extermination camps and elsewhere. All toxic, dehumanizing rhetoric must be condemned, including that of the government and right-extremists in Israel.
CNN: It has got nothing to do with anything, but the first thing I noticed was how bigcParnas’ hands are in those photo’s Trump has no recollection of; almost twice the size of Trump’s. 🤣 What is also interesting is the way Parnas talks about Russia or rather for Russia.
Who is that ‘he’ here? I think Parnas is referring directly to Putin here. Does Parnas have direct ties to the Kremlin?
