It was a pleasure to work with Dr. King on Vietnam Summer. Of all the people I have met in my life, he stands head and shoulders above the rest. This is last year’s article. It is even more applicable today.
Normally, I would wish you a Happy Martin Luther King Day, but my conscience will not allow it at a time when Donald Trump* and the Republican Party have trashed so much of what he accomplished, and today, Dr. King would grieve. But he would also…

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Listening to Dr. King now, is as important (if not more) today, as it was back then.
Thank you, Dr. King, and let ‘Freedom Ring’ !!
Excellent post, and a day to remember, contemplate, ponder/meditate.
Thanks, Tom for this worthy post.
This just in: “MM & Lindsey G. have both publicly stated that they will not be impartial in the impeachment trial! Does that mean they committed perjury when they swore to ‘do impartial justice? Or does that come later?” ~Luisa P. ~

Sadly, there’s not a lot to say today. Yes, he would grieve indeed. One stage of grief is anger, and anger can lead to resistance. So we all must get there.
One thing which should be said is that it’s good that the Navy chose MLK day to make this announcement –

There’s a story behind this. Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. met only once. The meeting lasted most of an afternoon and all of the evening. Ten years later Ellington wrote this – as the third movement of a ballet suite titled “Three Black Kings.”
The first two movements were “Balthazaar” and “Solomon.” This, “Martin Luther King,” was the third.
Our nation was fortunate to have a man of such stature and intellect.
One can’t help but wonder “What if …”
What MLK said and did will always need to be remembered and must never be corroded by time. But it is a sad sign of the times that MLK’s words are now more important than ever.
It can’t be a “Happy” MLK Day, with the country’s leading racist in the WH.
Pat’s #2 is precious.
With MLK being all about human rights, this is nice: https://www.commondreams.org/news/2020/01/20/global-precedent-set-un-rules-climate-refugees-cannot-be-sent-back-life-threatening
MLK was a remarkable man. Enjoyed watching the video.
Too bad we have an idiot in the WH who doesn’t respect or practice what MLK spoke.
Thanks TomCat
Thanks and harried Hugs to all!
