From The New Yorker: Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is “completely baffled” as to why he appears to be the only dictator whom Donald J. Trump does not like, the autocrat said on Monday.
Speaking to reporters in Tehran, the long-reigning tyrant expressed puzzlement and dismay that Trump had not given him the adulation that he has showered on seemingly every other totalitarian in the world.
“Trump loves Vladimir Putin and Mohammed bin Salman, and he’s even given Kim Jong Un a cute nickname, but, for some mysterious reason, I leave him cold,” the visibly saddened Ayatollah said. “I just don’t get it.”
Khamenei initially tried not to take Trump’s distaste for him personally, he said, “but when it became clear that he liked even second-tier strongmen like Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, of Turkey, and Rodrigo Duterte, of the Philippines, I’d be lying if I said it didn’t hurt.”
I guess Andy is back to straight news. If I were Khamenei, my feelings would be hurt too. RESIST!!

4:37 It’s not quite that cold here; though our high temps are running below 32°F, it’s been dry.
I’m slowly re-watching the Reconstruction documentary, and I watched Hour 2 last night. I was struck by how parallel the political climate was to that today (of course with the party names reversed.) To oversimplify, official Reconstruction ended because the bigots outlasted the decent people. Bigots don’t give up and won’t compromise. Decent people can be worn down. If you have time to watch one but only one hour out of the four, I recommend making it this one (Sadly, you’ll need PBS “Passport” which is not free.)
Cartoon – That’s for sure. Monica has matured into one classy lady. With a killer sense of humor.
TNY – It’s a valid question. It’s not (just) because Iran has oil, since he loves the Saudi. And the Saudi are also Muslim. I don’t get it either. Maybe Khameini just hasn’t killed enough people.
CNN – There are certainly more people there than that his inauguration. Exponentially. And that was in his home town, which is not exactly a metropolis, which means people had to travel there to be there, and at a dangerous time. This should scare us.
Past – Both group and song are new to me.
Clinton was impeached, but the process didn’t go all the way through. This is a cautionary tale for all of us trying to impeach His Orangeness.
Clinton was impeached and acquitted, as was Andrew Johnson. We can make Trump the ONLY President impeached but NOT acquitted if the House does not send the Articles to the Senate. An impeachment cannot be dismissed for “lack of prosecution” like a criminal case.
Sure, I’d rather have him convicted and removed. But if that’s not going to happen, then no trial is the next best thing.
‘Toon: What promise that fool threw away for those bj’s! We would have had Pres. Gore, not Bushit, had Clinton continued to be seen as a worthy person , and not kept from the campaign trail.
TNY: Andy does that, from time, to time…vacillate between real news and silly news.

Pat: I love your #2. Those folks are not impulsive, will probably take their dear sweet time deciding on what to do for retaliation, and when. Meanwhile the family will be living under the sword of Damocles. Normally, I would be strongly opposed to such a punishment, but these are not normal times.

Not that you most likely haven’t already thought of it, but just in case … I would be sure to share w/ the Thoracic Surgeon that you’re scheduled for an endoscopy in mid-February, and hopeful they could be scheduled during the same hospitalization.
I’ve been involved w/ those efforts a time or two, and they do take some coordinating w/ different parties.

Cartoon: Pelosi has made sure that the start of Trump’s impeachment trial will not coincide with that of Bill Clinton’s. The further apart the better.

TNY: Trump never bothered, or to be more precise, could learn the names of all the people in power in other countries, so he stopped listening after hearing that Hassan Rouhani is president of Iran, missing the point that Rouhani is as much of a puppet of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as he himself is of Putin. And to be honest, Rouhani doesn’t fit the picture of a dictator Trump would admire, doe he?
CNN: The throngs were so large about 50 people were killed, crushed in the masses. The video is already old news as the Iranians have now struck back, as they were provoked in doing. We’re waiting on Trump to address the media, but he’s probably waiting to hear if there were any American casualties as a result of the bombing of the two military camps. Here analyst just said on the news that they hoped there were no Americans killed or hurt because it would start a terrible spiral of retaliations.
BFTP: Nope, that one’s not stored in my music database 😉 Had you picked Crimson and Clover by Tommy James and the Shondells, it would have been another story. My 11-year old brother acquired the single from goodness knows where (it wasn’t a hit in Holland, I believe), fell in love with it and drove me mad with it because it was the only single he possessed, of which he only played this side.
