Van Drew is just your typical Rethuglican grifter.
For the past quarter-century his District (NJ-2) has been solid red – except for his election last year in the Blue Tsunami.
He read the tea leaves, knew he would be primaried – and badly beaten. So in an effort to save his “job” he simply switched parties.
Other than giving tRump some gloating time, his Benedict Arnold act won’t make a jot or tittle of difference. But I will also note that being both a coward AND disloyal is not a very appealing persona for a politician.

NYT: As was said yesterday, and sung by Dom today, The Democratic Party isn’t without blemishes and the only way to get rid of them is not covering them up any longer but surgically removing them at the voting booths. Representative Jeff Van Drew knows what’s going to happen to him after he votes against impeachment, so he preempts his demise at the polls and hopes to return as a Republican. Thank goodness he’s only a member of the House where his switch won’t count for much. If they haven’t forgotten in 2-3 years time, his voters will let him know how they feel about his betrayal.
