It’s a temperate but muggy day here in the CatBox, and my poor abused butt is swinging back toward Republicosis again.  I looked at our stats at our HSP, and seeing them may well be what caused the Republicosis.  It’s that bad.  Losing Care2 really clobbered us.  It seems active, but hundreds used to read every day without  I’m going to have to start exploring for ways to publicize the site.  OGIM Hugs to all!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:10 (average 6:05).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

What a wonderful Orb!

Short Takes:

From NY Times: A witness who delivered key testimony in the trial of Amber Guyger — the white former Dallas police officer convicted this past week in the murder of an unarmed black man, Botham Jean — was fatally shot on Friday night, a lawyer for Mr. Jean’s family said.

The witness, Joshua Brown, 28, who had lived in the same apartment complex as Ms. Guyger and Mr. Jean, was shot several times by an unknown assailant, Lee Merritt, the family’s lawyer, said on Twitter Saturday night.

Mr. Brown’s death occurred just two days after a Dallas County jury sentenced Ms. Guyger to 10 years in prison, well short of the maximum 99 years that she could have received in the killing of Mr. Jean, a 26-year-old immigrant from the Caribbean island nation of St. Lucia.

I think I understand what happened. In the 1970’s I observed a Portland Police officer turning on his siren to run a red light and pull into the Dunkin’ Donuts in which was sitting. They almost caused an accident in the intersection. The cops ordered donuts and coffee, sat down, and ate. When I returned home I called the PD and told them what I had seen. At about 2:00 AM the next morning I received a gruff, anonymous phone call, that if I didn’t shut up and mind my own business, I would NOT stay healthy. Mr. Brown did not shut up and mind his own business, and many cops are both Ammosexual and Republican.  RESIST!!

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): 1 Big Thing: Trump’s real impeachment worry

In that case, we keep hammering on Trump’s legacy as a Nazi Pervert. RESIST!!

From YouTube (a treat for the soul): pharaon

A comment from Mitch inspired me to include this. In my youth I tried to learn to play like this, until arthritis set in in my 30s. Now all I can do is strum. RESIST!!

  1. 6:05 Yeah, I can tell they are acorns. But on autumn leaves? Well, maybe the red stuff, but it surely isn’t oak leaves. And I don’t buy the white-gray stuff being any kind of leaves.

    Cartoon – And me too.

I saw the score on Google (DuckDuckGo is good at some things, but really, really bad at spoets). Good. You were due for some Religious Ecstasy.

NYT – Oh, for shizzle. That fact that they don’t say where it happened leads me to believe it was at his residence, and therefore deliberate. A cop, or a cop sympathizer. I surely hope someone sane is able to get hold of ballistics info.

Axios – Oh please, impeachment can only improve his legacy (by limiting his crimes). His “legacy” is already tarnished beyond the reach of polish.

YT – Nicely done, yes. I also am fond of “Concerto de Aranjuez” myself – and “Recuerdos de Alhambra” – and some others. (And I can’t do it either and never could.)

  2. Cartoon: He’d end up in jail, (a lot quicker), imho, if he ever was found guilty & got convicted of animal abuse. I’m an animal lover from the get-go, and he deserves what’s coming to him, either way, human/animal being the jury. (Beautiful cat, btw.)

Orb: Yay!! We won too, 53-32. re: the other game we watched….How about them Packers, eh? lol

NYT: Gawd, how horrible, sad and sickening. Boy, I hope they find who shot Mr. Brown. Your story is equally scary even way back then.

MSNBC: If dt was so concerned, and cared about his legacy, he should have cared about that coming in as potus. He has shown me that he has no morals, cares, or scruples.

    YT: What a treat.. thx!

I sure hope that you start feeling better. Hope that you get a chance to nap. Enjoy your day, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

*This just in: “Any Veteran voting for any Republican is simply not paying attention. R’s routinely get into wars, then take Vet’s benefits afterwards. It’s a R agenda item to privatize the VA, which would not be in any Veteran’s best interest. It’s in the record.” ~ Victoria B. ~
    2. “Giuliani, Pompeo, and others should pay attention to what dt is dong to Rick Perry. They’re next.”~Thor B. ~
    3. “Trump is letting Turkey go into Syria and slaughter the Kurds. Wonder what ‘quid pro quo’ Trump is getting for this? The Republican party has got to get a grip on itself!” ~ Colin Powell ~

    • It was just shortly after he hung up the phone w/ Pres. Erdogan of Turkey that Trump announced the totally irresponsible troop withdrawal.

Newsweek’s Exclusive no longer comes as a surprise at how totally incompetent he is.

Maybe Graham & McConnell will finally do something useful and get him to change his mind.

(Of note is that yesterday just happened to be Putin’s birthday.  Maybe Trump forgot to get him a gift, so he went with the troop withdrawal instead.)

    • Great minds fall in the same ditch! 02

      See today’s lead article.

  3. NYT: This is how the establishment creates “The Silence of Others,” as shown on PBS recently.  INTIMIDATION!  What a fucking world we live in, and we are supposed to be the good guys…if you buy our own propaganda!  TC, your own experience must have had quite a chilling effect you, even if for a moment.
MSNBC: Mulvaney?  Like he actually knows something…for real?  Is he not Chief of staff because he is just another dumb shit?  Dumpy is worried about his legacy?  Then he ought never to have run for the office, because not only will he have impeachment on his :”resumé, but will be known, throughout the planet, as little other than the lying, fuckfaced, grifter he has been all his life!  Note, there is no concern for anything, or anyone, but his own ass.
Pharaon: That would have been the comment about being uplifted by music from Rodrigo y Gabriela.  I was just listening to a U-tube channel devoted to Carlos Montoya when I came to PP.  They had Montoya, Segovia, and numerous others doing classic guitar. The Pharoan piece is wonderful, thanks.

  4. There is also a marvelous version of “Concerto de Aranjuez,” played by Miles Davis, as arranged by Gil Evans, on Davis’ “Sketches of Spain” album.
TC, I can relate to your guitar frustration, as I worked on learning trumpet for 9 years, until frustrated by a time signature that I just could not get my head around.  Later on, I noticed the beginning of some arthritis.

  5. Thank you Tom Cat for the news,I enjoy your banter and that of your friends!😗🤗

  6. 4:06 Could do with a little more sleep.

Cartoon: Nobody should grab that cutie.

NYT: It’s hard not to link Joshua Brown giving testimony in court against a killer cop to his horrible demise two days later, isn’t it. But we mustn’t jump to conclusions, that’s a Republican prerogative.

MSNBC: Oh, Trump is feeling it alright. So, here come the diversions, no matter what the cost.

US President Donald Trump has boasted of his “great and unmatched wisdom” and threatened to “destroy” Turkey’s economy after appearing to green-light a Turkish invasion of northern Syria and abandoning the US-allied Kurds who helped fight against the Islamic State (IS) group.

Of course, he had to blame Obama for the war in Syria while he was at it. Rambling the way he is, it’s scary to contemplate what comes next and hope against better judgement Trump has a red line he won’t cross.

Pharaon: Thanks, much appreciated being a great classical-guitar fan myself, with a preference for John Williams (no, not the Star Wars one).

  7. Here is a prediction, against my usual rule not to make them, but: Trump has no red line!  Having one would indicate that he has a sense of that which the GOP lost decades ago, which allowed them to rally behind Trump. We are talking about DECENCY!  In his world “decent” means that one will go the route of Mr. Rudy, and sacrifice everything for Trump, including his/her mind.
    This just in: https://www.alternet.org/2019/10/trump-is-scared-to-death-legal-experts-weigh-in-on-federal-judge-dismissing-presidents-lawsuit-against-manhattan-da/
If Donny can REALLY loose it, and has not gone fully over the edge already, this might just do it.

  8. Cartoon: Yes he must.
NYT: Sad to hear of his murder. Makes me sure wonder if it had to do with him stepping up as a witness. I hope they do find out who did it.
MSNBC: I agree with both Joanne and Pat’s comments about tRump caring about his legacy. All I can add is that if he was that concerned, he should of been doing what he was placed in there to do in the first place… Like helping our country unite and get better, not tearing apart and destroying it
    Pharaon: Great guitarist.
Hope you feel better. Take care.
    Thanks TomCat

  9. Cartoon — Bare those teeth and claws if the pussy grabber grabs you and then sink them very deep (think Mariana Trench deep – almost 11,000 metres) into that pudgy flesh!  Did you know that cat bites most often become infected.

NY Times — There must be an investigation with all the “i”s dotted and the “t”s crossed.  I don’t know if this is within the purview of the FBI, but there needs to be some independence in the investigation.  Your scenario may be correct, but only time and an investigation will bare it out, or not.

MSNBC — I agree with JD.  Further, he will take others down too . . . not that that is a bad thing, but it is another indication of his lack of morals or good sense.  He is such an asshole!!!

YouTube — Have never heard of this musician but his playing is exceptional!  He reminds me of Mason Williams’ playing.  I tried to embed this but it was a no go.  Mason Williams playing Classical Gas.

    • “Classical Gas” I do remember.  I also remember Williams’s sense of humor.  There was a piece he wrote in 5/4 time and called it “Waltz for a Two Legged Man and a Three Legged Woman.”

  10. Thanks, and stinky hugs to all. 35

Given my own experience, I trust you can all appreciate how I arrived at my hypotheses about Mr Brown’s death.
