Last night Rachel Maddow appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. I rather hoped she would try her hand at comedy. If she did, she just wasn’t funny, but, as always, she was most informative. Colbert, on the other hand, was hilarious. He had Rachel laughing so hard, that I hope she was wearing Depends. Here are three video clips.
Rachel Maddow: We Just Don’t Know How Impeachment Will Play Out
“America’s Premier Explainer” is a perfect description for Rachel. Republicans have neither integrity nor patriotism, but they may act to save their own skins.
Rachel Maddow: Russia Uses Oil And Gas As A Weapon
The revenue always goes to the elite and powerful when Republicans or other extreme-right fascists control the government.
Rachel Maddow: There’s A Second Trump Whistleblower
I have no doubt that, before this is done, enough whistles will be blown to form an orchestra of whistles.
Is there any wonder that Rachel is my favorite commentator?

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I have watched Rachel for the better part of 5 or so years, with MSNBC, (even though she’s been on TV for 11 years now..)
She is such a good teacher, and explains what is going on so that I can understand what she is conveying.
The Stephen Colbert show w/her was awesome!!! (and Steve was good too, lol).
Thanks Rachel for doing your part in keeping my sanity, answering my internal questions, and keeping up the great work you do!!
I thought she was pretty funny about her ankle – especially considering how painful it must be.
I saw a comment that complained he thought she was insulting his intelligence by treating him like a fifth grader in giving explanations. Others needed to remind him that the average American TV viewer is lucky to be as smart and informed as a fifth grader, and that she isn’t talking to just him. Personally, I don’t find the repetition in different words either insulting or even annoying. Repetition in the exact same words can be annoying, but she generally doesn’t do that.
I was a Docent for the UMKC Medical School, and really loved teaching students. So after I retired (and still had some hearing) I took classes at the university for a year to earn a teaching certificate. And one of the main things they emphasize to enhance retainage is [1] Tell your students what you’re going to say. [2] Say it. [3] Then tell them what you said.
Repetition is a great way to reinforce remembering.
Oh, yes. I think anyone who’s ever taken even part of one Ed course or one Public Speaking course has heard that. And/or the parodies such as the Winston Churchill quote. That’s structural, and I don’t think it’s what this guy meant. I think he meant that she sometimes says three or four sentences in a row all saying the same thing, but in different words. I don’t find that annoying because I have watched pedagogues who feel they have discovered the absolute best way to say some concept, and, when they run into a student who doesn’t grasp that phraseology, are tongue-tied. All they can do is repeat it exactly the same way, and the student still doesn’t get it, and no one is happy. That is annoying, but that’s not what she does. By saying it three or four times in different ways, she increases the chance that everyone will relate to at least one of the versions. I appreciate that.
She really is “…much nicer…,” then he is. she could have unloaded on Hannitshit in so many ways! Or, could have explained that that is really how she hurt her foot, catching him in the chops!
Rachel Maddow may not be a comedian, and thank goodness for that, but I thought she was quite humorous at times and she shows that she has a good sense of humour. I find it truly amazing that she can present her show 5 times a week, do that for most of the year on a level paralleled by few others and still find time to write a book. I hope the sales are good.
Thanks and stinky hugs to all!
I never meant to imply that Rachel has no sense of humor.
I never meant to imply that you implied Rachel has no sense of humor, TomCat
I know, Lona, but looking back over it, I thought I could have done a better job of wording it.
