Our Favorite Political Fruit

Largely because of the extreme foot dragging by Nancy Pelosi and a few swing-district Democrats, Resident Donald Trump, Fuhrer of the Republican Reich, became convinced that he could get away with anything.  Therefore, he committed a crime so extreme that impeaching him is now our only rational choice.

0924Impeach

Folks, I think the president of the United States is going to be impeached.

The signals are clear. First, seven new members of the House, all with national-security backgrounds, published an op-ed Monday demanding that the administration hand over a whistle-blower complaint that reportedly alleges misconduct by President Donald Trump – and saying that impeachment would be the proper response if the reports about the complaint are true. Then two allies of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said much the same.

Impeachment still isn’t certain. The immediate flash point is a Thursday deadline the House has set for the whistle-blower complaint to be delivered. If the administration complies, it’s possible that the added details in the complaint could defuse the situation somewhat (although what Trump has already admitted to should be sufficient for an impeachment). And so far, only the Republican-turned-independent Justin Amash seems likely to join the House Democrats, while conviction would require a lot more Republican defections than seem likely at the moment.

Here are two video clips to elucidate the story.

‘Game Changer’ Ukraine Scandal Prompts New Calls For Impeachment

With her national security credentials and representation of a swing district, Rep. Elaine Luria’s recommendation is most credible.

Pelosi Reconsiders Impeachment Resistance, Talks Next Steps With Nadler

I’m most pleased and surprised to see Pelosi actually considering impeachment, instead of protecting her own political turf by putting the Party before the nation.

I’ve changed my mind too.  I think Articles of Impeachment should be tried in the Senate.  I do not expect a conviction.  But I think that watching Republican Senators cravenly cower and squirm to protect their Fuhrer will disgust voters so much they will flush those Republicans.

The swing district Democrats, who are dragging their feet now, have two choices. They can lose support for backing impeachment, or they can lose even more support for enabling Trump!

  1. Just about a half hour ago I received permission to quote this.  The Disqus user who said it goes by Tom Piper.  I’ve been following his comments for a while – even whenI don;t agree (and this time I do), I find him rational and thoughtful:

Speaking as a lawyer even on obstruction of justice Democrats don’t have the evidence. What they have is a heavily redacted Mueller “Report” that tells them obstruction of justice may have been committed on 10 occasions.

What they need is testimony and/or documents from the witnesses Mueller gathered evidence from OR the grand jury evidence itself.

They’ve petitioned the court for the grand jury evidence but I’m unaware that a FRCP Rule 6(e) hearing has even been scheduled by the court.

They’ve so far been blocked in obtaining testimony under oath from witnesses other than Lewandowski the other day. They got some things from him when he was grilled by the consulting lawyer at the end but there again they need other witnesses to corroborate what they got from him.

They also have testimony and evidence from Michael Cohen but again they need grand jury evidence from SDNY to confirm and back up Cohen’s assertions.

The same goes for Trump’s taxes and financial records which they’ve won the right to so far from lower courts but are awaiting Appellate Court and possibly Supreme Court ruling.

The problem Democrats and Pelosi have is if the vote on Articles of Impeachment were held now based on the EXPECTATION of obtaining the evidence they need they’re fucked if they don’t get it.

    RESIST AND PERSIST !!

  2. I read something, I think yesterday, probably at Alternate, wherein the author suggested that this newest imbecility is just the kind thing Pelosi was waiting, and hoping for…and expecting from Mr. predictably insane resident.  We will see.  The thinking in the article was that Drumpf would feel so emboldened by getting away, so far, with his idiocy, that he’d go a step even further.  Who knows?  But, the house investigation must go on, perhaps now with that much more momentum.

  3. Very good comments.

Personally, either way, he can go out in a straight jacket, or a paddy wagon, I just want him gone.
All in good time, though. All in good time!

  4. You probably already know this but, “This just in”: Pelosi has, as of this afternoon, gone on record in favor of an impeachment investigation, quoting Ben Franklin, and the need to protect the constitution!!!  The mad dance has begun!  It is not beyond my capacity to imagine Drumpf going to war with Iran, JUST so he can then declare a national state of emergency, in an effort to stop any action on impeachment…just saying!

    • Yeah Mitch, I saw that.
He’ll try to lie, deceit, deflect, defer, and damn those who are investigating, or sue somebody. Because… ‘don’t cha know’, he’s an honest fella. LOL

  5. Finally they are going to do it. We have been waiting a long long time. I pray that it’s taken to the fullest and that tRump is taken out of office and prosecuted to the fullest.
Then we all can sing Hallelujah.
Mitch I feel that if he tries to do anything else like call for a state of emergency, he will be the one who suffers. He’s destroyed our county enough.
We need to save it NOW and start moving FORWARD.

  6. Trump is a disgrace! If he is not made an example of, made to pay for what he has done by defiling the Office of the Presidency, his attempts to shred the American Constitution, his total deference to the President of Russia, his obstruction of justice and so many other nefarious crimes against the people of the United States, then, he will surely quash American democracy. If re-elected, he will stop at nothing to totally consolidate his power and turn the USA into a Putin-style Trumpocracy. He will then go after all of his political enemies and possibly even outlaw the Democratic Party, along with the free press.

  7. John Yoo, a law professor at the University of California, Berkeley (among other things) wrote in the NY Times:

“The framers believed that “high crimes and misdemeanors” included a president who used his foreign affairs powers for personal or political gain. A special congressional committee could review classified information in secret and bring United States and foreign officials to testify under oath. The House could meet any stonewalling by cutting intelligence, military and diplomatic funding. Congress’s traditional oversight powers will force the intelligence agencies and the White House to provide the facts behind the Trump-Zelensky call and any delay in Ukrainian aid. Mr. Trump will also have his opportunity to provide a transcript of the call and to make the case that his official acts remained uninfluenced by any ulterior political motives — the same argument that won the day in the travel ban case at the Supreme Court last year. …

Democratic presidential candidates are calling for impeachment. But they should realize that they themselves remain the framers’ primary remedy for presidential abuses of power. The Constitution trusts the American people, acting through the ballot box, to render judgment on President Trump. Democrats should trust the framers’ faith in the American people, too.”

There is a point that I disagree with him . . . “The Constitution trusts the American people, acting through the ballot box, to render judgment on President Trump.”  Did the framers ever think that an entire political party, now the Republicans, would be so corrupt as to engage in gerrymandering, election fraud, voter suppression, etc etc ad nauseam?  Did the framers ever consider that the people would be so deceived as many are now by Trump?

There is no doubt in my mind that Trump has to go and the sooner, the better for the nation.  Listening earlier to Rick Wilson, former Republican strategist, on MSNBC’s The Beat, he commented that in pushing for impeachment may work to Trump’s advantage by firing up his base.  But that may also fire up Democrat voters too to counter the deplorables.  There may be truth to that.

  8. Impeachment proceedings should have started long ago! True, it will be hard getting them through a GOP-dominated senate; however, if people put enough pressure on vulnerable Republican Senators, maybe they’ll put their own butts ahead of party loyalty. If we show them that supporting impeachment is in their interests, we just might get enough votes.

  9. Thanks and Hump Day Hugs to all! 29
