Kudos to the US Women’s Soccer team. They won another World Cup yesterday, playing against an excellent team, except that they dressed in the color of the vile orange Fuhrer. I’ll leave the discussion of excessive pro athletes’ pay for another day. Excessive or not, women deserve pay equity with men. FIFA and the US Soccer Federation claim that men get more, because their games bring in more money. That is not true.
After the U.S. women’s national soccer team defeated the Netherlands on Sunday to claim its fourth World Cup title, chants of “Equal pay!” rang out in the crowd as fans expressed support for the athletes in their fight for equity with their male counterparts, who consistently earn far more money more despite performance….
…Aware of this yawning disparity, the crowd gathered inside Lyon Olympic Stadium in France backed the women’s fight for basic equality:
As Buzzfeed reported Sunday, “women’s soccer games have generated more revenue than the men’s over the past three years.”
“From 2016 to 2018, women’s games generated $50.8 million in revenue,” according to Buzzfeed, “compared with $49.9 million for the men’s matches.”
Speaking to the Associated Press May, star forward Megan Rapinoe—who made headlines recently by calling President Donald Trump “a man that warrants no respect” and vowing to turn down an invitation to the White House—criticized the “incremental” changes that have been put forth by FIFA and the U.S. Soccer Federation….

Her statement that the Fuhrer deserves no respect makes Megan a hero. Here’s a report on the game.
And here is the pay equity complaint.
Women deserve pay-equity!
RESIST!!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
They were amazing, BRAVO!!!!
4th time in a row, wasn’t it?
And over a billion viewers globally, oh yeah they definitely deserve more pay!!!
Woo Hoo!!! and Congratulations! to the USWNT!! for the WIN !!! Megan (and the team) deserve equal pay too !!
Nancy Pelosi has invited the women’s soccer team to U.S. Capitol after World Cup win, YAY !!
It may well have been true at one time, but it isn’t true any more.
My very best wishes to Megan Rapinoe, and the suggestion that if she doesn’t have bodyguards, she get some. I made the mistake of glancing at some posts on Fox last night, which interfered with my getting to sleep (which resulted in oversleeping this morning.) Some were truly vile. Somehow the one which needled me most (quoting from memory because I am NOT going back there:
Fantastic!!!!!!
Joanne, please do not go to sites that might rot out your brain, it is too precious!
Thank you, Mitch. I didn’t stay long.
What an accomplishment! A feather in their cap, and one in our nation’s cap!
That fact that it bugs the HELL out of Twitler is just a bonus icing on the cake!
Thought we might enjoy some graphics of their historic day.
Mine:
One we can all enjoy:
And to be honest, I’m not a big fan of all the showboating. But watching some of the games it looks like it’s just a “soccer thing” – certainly not limited to USA.
But I also want to share one that shows Rapinoe was truly moved by this team’s incredible feat:
(You might also note that our flag embraces her in a show of patriotism. She doesn’t have to put on a fake show of hugging the flake to make one [take a guess who] seem patriotic.)
Congratulations to our US Women’s Soccer team. Outstanding players.
I feel that they deserve to be paid equally.
We aren’t living in the Stone Age and women deserve to be paid the same as men.
As a Dutch citizen (still) I can’t cheer the winning of the American women soccer team over the Dutch wholeheartedly, but for their equity complaint I’m 100% behind them. The same goes for their refusal to go to the White House to provide the lecher within some free ogling time.
Lona –
Fully understand your position. (And I love the Dutch people! My three visits to Amsterdam were wonderful! Yeah – I know to spread out more, but time doesn’t always allow that.)
And when you look at the population base from which USA is able to draw its talent – well, it’s overwhelming.
Then again, to be fair, soccer has not been that popular over here – but I suspect that will soon change.
WRT equity pay? That MUST change to “Equal Pay for Equal Work”.
Thanks and hurry huga.
We are so Proud of them!
She speaks very well. Thank you TomCat
