This article is a repeat of last year’s.
Traditionally I have celebrated Independence Day with excerpts from the Declaration of Independence, videos of the local fireworks display, and lessons on the differences between true patriotism and nationalism. However, then the US was an independent nation. Now it is under foreign domination. I’m sorry, but as long as Donald Trump, Putin’s Puppet, and his Republican Reich stay in power and keep the US in thrall to Russia, the 4th of July will be a day of mourning.
RESIST!!

While it’s undeniable that Orange Judas has turned America’s birthday into a day of mourning, it’s also undeniable that in order to keep going, keep resisting, we all need SOME happiness in our lives – that’s why Mother Jones is devoting one of its newsletters every week to stories which show that humanity is not completely dead. And we all need to have some laughter too. Otherwise we burn out and become no use to ourselves or to anyone else. So I will still wish everyone some happiness to ease this day of mourning, and some laughter to lighten the heart.

The Aussie ABC breakfast show upset my stomach during a bowl of muesli when they showed the beginning of Trump’s 4th of July speech live just now. No barf bag warning here. OMG, they just switched back to it again; I can’t type with my ears covered by my hands.😱
The first bit was neatly undone by following it up with extensive ridicule of Ivanka trying to bud in on leaders’ conversations at the G20. Lots of funny pictures with Ivanka in world event pictures, but I couldn’t find them on the internet. May have been just for the breakfast show.
We;ve seen many here too. I believe the hashtag is #unwantedIvanka. My favorite so far is the one that puts her down in a newsroom scene from “All the President’s Men.” Redford and Hoffman look so young! But the subject matter surely is pertinent.
Good to see the Good Lord saw fit to RAIN on Twitler’s celebration of self.
OK – I don’t really believe that God did that. But all those right-wing Talibangelical christianist say it whenever any disaster strikes blue California, etc.
Someone on Twitter, quoted in a DKos comment, suggested the rain was God’s tears, laughing so hard he was crying. Oh – but you knew that. I hadn’t been back there when I posted this.
