Here is the one hundred fifty-fourth article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s winner is Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christian, Secretary of Reich, Mike Pompeo. He is so honored for holding a press conference, in which he banned reporters from media he did not consider sufficiently “faith based”.
The State Department not only barred reporters from nonreligious outlets from covering a briefing call about international religious freedom with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday but also refused to release a list of people who participated in the event or even a transcript of what Pompeo said, according to CNN.
CNN reported that only “faith-based media” were allowed to take part in the event and that the State Department wouldn’t answer questions “about whether a range of faiths was included.” Pompeo adheres to a fervent brand of evangelical Christianity and once characterized politics as “a never-ending struggle … until the rapture.”…
…In a statement to CNN, a State Department spokesperson justified barring reporters from Monday’s event by characterizing it as “designed” for “audience-specific media,” as opposed to “[d]epartment press briefings, teleconferences on a myriad of policy issues, briefings and sprays by the Secretary of State and other officials” that are open to all media outlets…

Because of Pompeo considers the world as a jihad between good (people who share hid pseudo-Christian heresy) and evil (everyone else), I doubt that anyone with other than pseudo-believers were invited.
Watch how he squirmed when Corey Booker grilled him during the confirmation process.
Any Republican that briefs select media only deserves a parade.
RESIST!!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Just another POS, crawling out from under the rotting log! My wife, just a moment ago, showed me a piece on FB in which someone said that ever since Drumph has been in office, “It’s been like kicking over a rotting log, and watching the maggots and bugs crawl out.” AMEN!!
They will hold onto this delusion about a supposed rapture until, it never happens, and “never” is “a very long time, especially toward the end.” THIS is the problem with Pence, and mixing religion and the state: Policy gets to be decided upon by way of delusion. RESIST!!!!!
Belief in God is not delusional. Trying to impose one’s views on others is.
As you say, belief in God is not delusional. Even belief in a future rapture is not necessarily delusional. But belief that it is imminent, or that it would solve all one’s problems, or that Donald John Trump or anyone else can bring it about – THAT’s delusional.
Amen! 🙏
His opposition to LGBTQ equality and lack of skills in the diplomatic arena should have been a no brainer for a ‘thumbs down’, for his taking this position, and here he is. Human rights out the window. The State Department used to be a respected department, but not any more.
Well, his mother’s maiden name was Mercer. What would you expect? (Frankly, I would have expected a cushy Wall Street job in his past, but no. Just a venture capitalist, and another Tea Party Congressman from Kansas. Nothing to knock off the rough “religious” edges.) I’m glad Cory Booker at least tried to bring some of this out. Maybe we’ll get lucky and someone who was there who was just a little less indoctrinated will leak. Hey, I can dream.
Anybody who doesn’t find this frightening is either a) ignorant, b) overly optimistic, or c) a member of the pseudo-Christian reich. “1984” and “The Handmaid’s Tale” were supposed to be warnings, NOT guidebooks!
Great selection again, TC. Another shady character that works with the same racist beliefs as his leader.
First inviting the reporter than turning around saying “No” because it was “faith-based media only”.
He acts like his flipping boss who does the opposite of what they say.
Plus always breaking the rules.
Excuse me?! Pompeo had The State Department bar reporters from non-religious outlets AND had it refuse to release a list of people who participated in the event or even a transcript of what he said. And that was allowed to happen? What about the Separation of Church and State; is this bar even constitutional?
Pompeo is rightly selected for the Parade, but there’s more going on than Pompeo barring non-religious (and non-Christian faith) outlets from his call on “international religious freedom“, and calling Drumpf godsend. Drumpf is going ballistic with twittering right before the Mueller rapport comes out, drawing all attention to himself as usual, and hopefully-soon-to-be-raptured Pence and Pompeo use the opportunity to take down another piece of your constitution. And that will soon be forgotten when the Media tumble over Barr’s resume of Mueller’s report.
Thanks for calling this out, TomCat.
I wonder if this was a meeting to strategise a plan to make the US a pseudo Christian theocracy? Why else all the secrecy? Add to that, this from AlterNet:
Pompeo actually said:
Talk about feeding Trump’s insatiable ego! This is one big pile of bull shit!!!
Cory Booker went for the jugular and he drew blood, Pompeo’s blood! Pompeo should never have been confirmed given his role.
All should be Grilled as Corey Booker did.
