Last night the Resident of the United States delivered one of the longest SOTU speeches in US history. It’s length, made it like a root-canal when the dentist substituted Eau de Flatulence for nitrous oxide. I watched the whole thing, and I’m afraid George is mad at me again. To all other and my fellow Americans: The State of our Union is buried up to our eyeballs in the vile excrement of the Republican Reich.
President Donald Trump told Congress on Tuesday that the economy would crash and no policy work could be done if lawmakers investigate his administration or stand in the way of his plans to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan and Syria.
The lines, delivered early in his State of the Union address, were so clearly designed to draw cheers from his Republican allies that they even included a rhyme scheme.
"An economic miracle is taking place in the United States — and the only thing that can stop it are foolish wars, politics, or ridiculous partisan investigations," he said, eliciting an ovation from the GOP.
But then, as he asserted himself further on matters of war and the separation of powers, Trump went a bit too far.
"If there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation," he said. "It just doesn’t work that way!"
Instead of applause, Trump was met at first with a brief moment of lightly scattered laughter and a few lonely claps — and then came steely silence as the president stood at the podium looking at lawmakers… [emphasis added]

In spite of the threat that summarizes the character of his speech, he did say he wanted unity and bipartisanship. He was actually telling the truth, as long as he was using the Republican definition of bipartisanship.
If you are a masochist, you may watch the entire speech here.
On the other hand, Stacey Abrams’ response is worth watching.
So is Bernie Sanders’ response.
The El Paso Sherriff blasted Trump’s lies about his city.
Here’s more about Trump’s threats.
Here’s some fact-checking.

The speech makes one thing clear. We need to…
RESIST!!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I’ve read transcripts, as well as some commentary more intelligent than most on TV. I must say I don’t know how anyone (well, maybe a Republican) could listen to Stacey Abrams’s speech and end up with two dry eyes.
I did not watch the SOTU, though I did listen to Stacey Abram’s speech afterwards. What a wonderful lady with encouragement, and words. She’s a keeper!!!
His threat to Congress was very concerning to me, ‘if there’s going to be peace in legislation, there cannot be war and investigations.” wth?? Read (somewhere) that Stephen Miller penned his speech. So there ya go!
Good post, Tom. thx!
Neither myself, nor my wife, had the stomach to watch Mr. No mas pantaloons, but I may well watch Abrams, shortly, but, do you mean to say that he did not announce that we are a “Wholly owned subsidiary of Putin, and the Russian mob?” Imagine such an omission!
I couldn’t watch the SOTU either but have picked up enough of his speech today to know it was basically another campaign rally. I did watch Stacy Abrams afterwards and she was magnificent.
Thank you for the awesome posts TomCat.
Abrams: A good speech! I guess it is standard protocol to ask for god’s blessings for the country, but if such a one had any intention of blessing America, how did Drumph become its president?
El Paso Sheriff: Drumph lies? So what else is new?
Threats and lies? Sorry, but , really, what else is new?
I didn’t watch it either, had a doctor appointment at 4:30 and got out of the office around 5:30. Then went to eat dinner.
Heard about it on the nightly news that came on right after Stacey Abrams.
As usual he speaks words like uniting, coming /working together which would be nice, if he would actually do/practice what he speaks. But he totally does the opposite. Speaks total lies. All fake words.
He’s the one and only cause of the major problems our country is currently experiencing.with all of his chaos. N
ot doing what he’s suppose to be doing as a real leader would be. All because of his flipping WALL.
Thank goodness I didn’t have to watch; there was enough about it on the news here, and not much good, I can tell you. They all picked the most embarrassing moments and mainly the lies, because Aussie viewers know enough about him by now to pick out those lies and not be fooled by them. His threats were so obvious that they needed no comment either, specially not when even the Republicans could no longer applaud him.
In his own word: sad.
i didn’t watch our news Lona, i wanted to keep my dinner where it belonged! ?
“The State of our Union is buried up to our eyeballs in the vile excrement of the Republican Reich.”
sad.
I got the usual email from my Congress Critter – Rep. Sam Graves (R-MO). I decided I would send a reply, and thought you might enjoy my response (especially since I stayed civil).
Very well written!
Thanks, frigid hugs, and Amen to all.
I hope you don’t mind if I borrow Trump’s saying!
Make America Great Again — Dump Trump and the Republican Reich, the great American corruptors! They are a boil on the US’s butt that needs lancing immediately!
SOTU??? That was nothing but a bunch of lies strung together with an incoherent word salad rant!!! . . . not that I had time to watch it because Wednesday is my very busy physio and teaching day. I did hear some on the radio and read some articles online however.
The animated GIF is all too true. Fortunately, the Democrats have a golden opportunity to switch it around in 2020. But only if they return to their true progressive roots – and become real Democrats, instead of remaining corporate-owned DumbocRATs.
Stacey Abrams should run for the Senate. (President is probably too big a step right now.) If she does run, I’m sure she’ll have a good chance of beating David Perdue, whose arse definitely needs to be booted out of Washington.
