I tend to be a perfectionist, so there are a lot of things about the 2018 elections that I would change, if I could. I really hoped Beto and Gillum would win. The worst of it is the big Republican success in the Senate. It looks like we will have a couple years in which to RESIST will be more important than ever.
Democrats harnessed voter fury toward President Trump to win control of the House and capture pivotal governorships Tuesday night as liberals and moderates banded together to deliver a forceful rebuke of Mr. Trump, even as Republicans held on to their Senate majority by claiming a handful of conservative-leaning seats.
The two parties each had some big successes in the states. Republican governors were elected in Ohio and Florida, two important battlegrounds in Mr. Trump’s 2020 campaign calculations. Democrats beat Gov. Scott Walker, the Wisconsin Republican and a top target, and captured the governor’s office in Michigan — two states that Mr. Trump carried in 2016 and where the left was looking to rebound.
Propelled by an unusually high turnout that illustrated the intensity of the backlash against Mr. Trump, Democrats claimed at least 26 House seats on the strength of their support in suburban and metropolitan districts that were once bulwarks of Republican power but where voters have recoiled from the president’s demagoguery on race.
Early Wednesday morning Democrats clinched the 218 House seats needed to take control. There were at least 15 additional tossup seats that had yet to be called…

The current count in the Senate is 45 – 51 with probable Republican wins in the other four. With 45 – 55 split, the Senate will be a Republican judge factory for two years.
On the plus side, we flipped six statehouses.
I’m exhausted.
RESIST!!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
It could indeed have been worse. It could also have been a lot better. Sigh.
AlterNet – Here Are Ten Notorious Republican Villains Who Lost Their Elections Tuesday
https://www.alternet.org/election-03918/here-are-10-republicans-who-lost-last-night
Dean Heller
Scott Walker
Bruse Rauner
Kris Kobach
Dana Rohrabacher
Pete Sessions
Dave Brat
Jason Lewis
Claudia Tenney
and last but not least, Kim Davis.
On one level, Davis may indeed be the least.
Thanks for the lovely news about Kobach!
She’s the lowest ranking, but she’s been much bigger than her position. Rethug bigwigs even took her to meet the Pope, remember?
Abbott(R) gov. won. Bummed bad about Beto losing to (fill in the blank) Cruz. Here’s his concession speech….worth a listen……

Oops..
Also, recount runoff on December 4th for Abrams and Kemp (GA)

Thanks Tom for your informative post.
I signed an E-thank you card to Beto and one to Andrew.
Sigh.
Thank you for the link Joanne. I signed them too.
I did too, as soon as I found out, and signed too.
Bummer!!!
Bob Hugin, sore loser in N.J., said, “You picked the wrong person.”
Better, yes indeed; worse, yes, indeed!
But with the House in Dem. hands, as of January, Dumpster is on a fast track to demolish more of the constitution, and try to get rid of Mueller. Hopefully, it is too late. Hopefully Mueller has sealed indictments ready to go. Then there is the N.Y. Att’y General with a case against him.
It’s going to be a crazy 2 years. I am minded of what is, supposedly, an ancient

“An estimated 113 million people participated in the 2018 midterm elections, making this the first midterm in history to exceed over 100 million votes, with 49% of eligible voters participating in the election.”That’s FANTASTIC!!!

So saddened about Beto!!
“Kemp, who presides over Georgia elections in his role as secretary of state, was intentionally suppressing minority votes. Many of these flagged voters had to use paper provisional ballots, which in some cases require voters to return to their county election board within three days to prove residency or citizenship, McCoy says. As such, ballots could remain uncounted until at least Friday.”
“Several Senate races remain too close to call, including in Florida and Arizona.”
i signed both e-thank you cards!
I’m sad that Beto and Gillum lost too but we did take back the house as we hoped we would and flipped governors. The next two years will be a wild and rocky ride so we will need to buckle up and eat our Wheaties.
I was happy the Democrats won back the control of the house. Was unhappy to hear that Beto and Gillum lose. I signed the two thank you e-cards. I was hoping cRuz would of been kicked out. I can’t stand as*kissing types like him. Still hoping Ms. Abrams has a chance.
Since prairie dogs & pigs don’t vote (I’m talking true porcine creatures – not your everyday RepubliKlan) I much prefer the Cartogram map that doesn’t show that disproportionate & sickening red:
Yes. Thanks.
I do think the map in the article underestimates New Mexico. After the smoke cleares today, says Jan4Insight at Daily Kos, “Well, I’m happy anyway, because my state NM — we hung in there — is now officially totally, completely BLUE at the Fed & state levels! Oh, plus our legislature is BLUE in both houses :)”
I really had hoped for a more positive header than “It could have been worse”, but there it is. And Jeff Sessions already fired, so Drumpf is already going after Mueller.
Within 24 hours Drumpf has declared war on Mueller’s investigation, most of the media, quite a number of Republicans and any one not with him, which is about half of the country. And the latter is the worrying part. I can understand that people are really happy about the best voter turnout in half a century, but they’ve not all voted Democrat; the Senate owes two more seats to the Drumpfians their “leader” managed to inspire to go to the polls too. Drumpf has managed to divide America in a way never seen before and the scary thing is that “his half” is willing to believe his lies and deception, no matter what. They are beyond reason.
Take your well deserved rest, TomCat. Make sure you get plenty of that while savouring taking back the House and 26 new Democratic governors. Chuckle at the loss of those 10 villainous Republicans who lost their election. Restore your good mood and strength and only then come back to us. Because the battle is far from over.
I personally felt even worse about Beto’s loss after reading THIS.
Dam, what a bummer!!
Thanks, Joanne for link. Sad.
Yes, it could have been worse. But it also could have been much better! Sad to see Beto defeated at this point but I understand that he has not conceded yet as a recount could happen. And a likely run-off in Georgia!!! Kemp should be criminally charged with interfering with people’s right to vote with all his shenanigans.
It is too bad that Americans have to put up with 2 more years of Diaper Don as the resident in the WH! I sure hope that he is a one term resident! Every time that some DD sycophant refers to DD as a great leader, I just want to hurl. DD is no leader!!!
He did make a spech (Pat B has a link), but concession speeches are NOT legally binding. Thank God, Dog, Ceiling Cat, FSM, Cthulhu, et al.
