Georgia on my Mind

I apologize for the cliche title,  But I had no plans to post today, and the WordPress format for entering drafts says, “What’s on your mind?” and I couldn’t resist.

I know Freya knows all this and will publicize it widely, but she can’t reach everyone in the state, not even every Democrat in the state, and if there’s any way we can help, we want to – we did endorse Stacey and would again.  So, without further ado, here’s a complete email from Al Pearson at Better Georgia dot org on what to do NOW before the runoffs gets started.

This election has been a wild ride. And now, it looks like we’ll all be on this ride a while longer.  There will be runoff elections on December 4, 2018. The question is how many.

The governor’s race between Stacey Abrams and Brian Kemp is too close to call. There are still enough uncounted absentee and mail-in ballots to push this race into a runoff.

It looks very likely that there will be a runoff between Democrat John Barrow and Republican Brad Raffensberger for secretary of state, the all-important office which oversees Georgia’s elections.

And it appears equally likely that Democrat Lindy Miller will force a runoff in the Public Service Commission District 3 race, which would break the Republican stranglehold on the commission.

If you’ve voted absentee, go to the Secretary of State website right now. Check your absentee ballot status and make sure that the status reads “accepted.” If it doesn’t, call (866) OUR-VOTE right away and explain the issue.

We’ll be sure to keep you up-to-date on our Facebook page as soon as we know more about the Governor, Secretary of State, Public Service Commission and state legislative races.

But here are just a few highlights from last night:

  • This was Georgia’s closest governor’s race in Georgia since 1994.
  • Democrats have taken control of the U.S. Congress, providing a much-needed check on Trump’s power.
  • It looks likely that progressive Lucy McBath will defeat conservative Karen Handel, flipping Georgia’s 6th Congressional District.
  • Democrats have flipped State House and State Senate seats across Georgia, winning in places that have been conservative strongholds for years.

Thank you for everything you’ve done to help increase progressive voter turnout. Whether you’ve knocked on doors, phonebanked, brought friends and family to the polls or just shared critical information on social media, YOU are the reason we have made real headway in races conservatives never thought they could lose.

When we work together, it scares conservatives. They know that they are losing their unearned grip on political power. They tilt the playing field, they move the goalposts, they put up roadblocks. But their political cheating is going to come to an end. What we do in the next 27 days truly matters.

While campaigns come and go, Better Georgia has been working around the clock for the last seven years. There are no “off years” for us. We know there are going to more battles to fight — some are just around the corner.

Sincerely,

Al Pearson

  1. I campaigned my rear off for Abrams, and I stand ready to do so again!

  2. I still have faith in Ms. Abrams. I’m sure all of the ballots aren’t counted yet.
I pray the results change in a positive way.

  3. This Battle isn’t over with yet!

And it’s NOT the only one!

  4. UPDATE FROM FLORIDA

    This from Team Gillum:

This election has always been about the voice of the people. We need your help to ensure every voice and vote is counted.

If you voted a provisional ballot, or know someone who did, make sure your vote gets counted by contacting your County Supervisor of Elections by 5 PM TODAY.

Go to http://www.andrewgillum.com/vote to immediately contact your County Supervisor of Elections.

    Thank you,

    Team Gillum

  5. Whatever you need to further Stacey’s campaign, I fully support doing it here. 04

  6. All at PP supported all Democratic candidates in Georgia, and Tracey Abrams in particular, so I think you’re very welcome to help any Democrat to further his election position in any way possible. May Stacey prevail.
