Once upon a time Stalin may have leaned over to KGB Head Beria and said "There is disloyalty among the generals." Beria may have replied, "What do we do?" "Purge Baby!" Almost a century later, another right-wing Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin (R-RU), may have leaned over to his subordinate and said, "There is disloyalty among the FBI." Trump may have replied, "BAAAA-A-A-A-A-A-A-A?" "Purge Baby!" And that’s exactly what Trump did.
Rachel Maddow pointed out last night that with the shocking firing of FBI counterintelligence official Peter Strzok, Trump has forced out almost every single witness to James Comey’s account of Trump’s attempt to obstruct justice.
"In Comey’s telling, the president tried to interfere with the FBI investigation of national security adviser Mike Flynn. The president denies did he any such thing, but Comey has back-up," she said.
"He committed to it writing, and then he told all these people at the time so they could corroborate what he said at the time about what happened. And these are not just job titles. There are specific people who had these jobs at the time in counsel. Comey and the corroborating witnesses for Comey…

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I hardly even want to talk about this because it makes me so angry. In a way, less that Trump is doing it than that it’s so little questioned.
But I will offer, as a counterweight, a link to an article in The Nation, with information from someone who has known Robert Mueller III for a long, long time.
Mr. Strzok was a 22 year career investigator with the FBI. I’d believe him, before I would dt. This is really taking it to a new level, of firing him.
Very scary, indeed.
Yeah, that sounds like the sort of advice tRump would get from his boss. Granted, it makes sense to strip out the names of people who have died or moved away; however, there is a difference between removing names for legit reasons and out-and-out purging.
Peter Strzok GoFundMe page is now nearing $350,000 in donations – in less than a day!
Very cool!
This is the kind of thing Dumpy has always done, seek revenge on anyone who displeases him. The man is now out of a job, maybe a pension, i do no know.
I e-mailed the fellow who represents a particular district in Florida, who had set an e-mail in which he said he wished for a return to civility. I told him that the most uncivil guy in the park is his leader, calling names at people, who displease him, like “lowlife, and “dog.” I did not mention the new bit bout his using the “N” word. So, what does it mean for his “leadership qualities” that he would hire such people? Not that Omarosa is either, please.
On CNN, at the gym, “The WH can not confirm that there is no tape on which Trump used the ‘N’ word.
MSNBC was all in a twist over his comments about Omarosa. They were: “A president does not just speak for himself, he speaks for the country.” He could not care less, does not see a difference between himself and his office, he thinks he is it. When will they learn to let that sort of stuff go, and report only on the garbage he does?
BARF to all of them i say!!! ?
When Stalin/Putin purged the military or some other office they could be sure that the disloyal people they purged were no longer a threat because they either disappeared from the face of the earth or were sent to some gulag in Siberia, with much of the same result. Drumpf’s purges however do not work that way; the people in the FBI whom he gets rid of because they were (too) closely associated with Comey may have been discredited and fired/made to resign, but they’re still there and still able to speak of what they know.
Undoubtedly the Republicans/the administration/Drumpf will try to assassinate their character even further, but the pattern of purging is far too obvious to be ignored. And by now all the nitty-gritty details are known by the man who really matters: Mueller. So, when the time comes, these purged FBI men and women will be asked to testify and will give a consistent account. Unless of course they need to fear for their lives as those in the Stalin era did. Hmm…come to think of it, with Putin giving the instructions, anything is possible.
How big a step is it from character assassination to outright assassination like that of Boris Nemtsov? Seems not a big step at all.
In reading the first part of Lona’s comment, I thought of the murder in 2015 of Boris Nemtsov, an opponent of Putin. Other opposition leaders said that Putin was responsible without doubt. As a matter of historical record, Stalin held massive violent purges, and Hitler purged members of the Nazi party of people who did not agree with him. Diaper Don is not really any different than these dictators except that his purges are not death sentences yet.
It seems to me that all of the people on Diaper Don’s persona non grata list should be able to testify for Mueller. DD certainly won’t like that and is likely to move heaven and earth to prevent their testimony.
The ones that should be purged are Drumpf, his administration, and Republicans . . . purged from Congress starting in November 2018!
He almost makes me miss Nixon! At least we had some in Congress who were honest enough to go after Nixon. We have sheep now.
I think they’re actually worse than sheep – they’re enablers. And in a couple of cases (looking at you McConnell & Ryan) I think they’re co-conspirators!
Adding Nunes to that, nail head, meet hammer. (Not that Nunes is the only one, but he’s egregious.)
Thanks, Hugs, and Amen to all!
When Trump ruined their professional lives, I don’t think he expected them to stop talking. He was making threats to the federal employees, who want to do their jobs, without goose-stepping.
