The sun hit the wall again, so I had to fire up the AC. It’s also very muggy. I don’t know, if I’ll be able to publish tomorrow. Wendy’s niece will be coming in the afternoon, and I’ll have extra preparation to get done, so I may have nothing more than a Personal Update or Open Thread.
Jig Zone Puzzle:
Today’s took me 3:02 (average 5:34). To do it, click here. How did you do?
Short Takes:
From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): Who’s On [R]esident Donald Trump’s Supreme Court Short List?
Trump lied. All these judges have been prescreened that they would vote to overturn Roe v. Wade. Otherwise, they would not even be on the list. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!
From ABC News: Liberal activists, parents and first-time protesters motivated by accounts of children separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border plan to rally in hundreds of cities nationwide Saturday to press President Donald Trump’s administration to reunite the families quickly.
More than 600 marches could draw hundreds of thousands of people across the country, from immigrant-friendly cities like Los Angeles and New York City to conservative Appalachia and Wyoming under the banner Families Belong Together.
Though many who show up will be seasoned anti-Trump demonstrators, others will be new to immigration activism, including parents who say they feel compelled to show up after heart-wrenching accounts of children forcibly taken from their families as they crossed the border illegally. In Portland, Oregon, for example, several stay-at-home moms have organized their first rally while caring for young kids.
Kudos to the demonstrators. It’s also a great opportunity for seasoned activists to encourage the newbies to join the resistance. We’ll need more and much larger demonstrations over SCROTUS (Republican Constitutional VD). RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!
From NY Times: A federal judge on Friday blocked Kentucky’s closely watched plan to require many Medicaid recipients to work, volunteer or train for a job as a condition of coverage.
The state had been poised to start carrying out the new rules next week and to phase them in fully by the end of this year.
Judge James E. Boasberg of Federal District Court for the District of Columbia, an Obama appointee, ruled that the Trump administration’s approval of the plan had been “arbitrary and capricious” because it had not adequately considered whether the plan would “help the state furnish medical assistance to its citizens, a central objective of Medicaid.”
Enjoy it. Unless we stop Trump’s pick, we can expect little or no judicial relief from hateful Republican policies ever again. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
6:01 Sweet.
MSNBC – “Trump lied” –
But it may not be a lie that he isn’t going to ask them about that – since they HAVE all been pre-screened.
ABC – Just before coming over here, I had to deal with a virtual onion exploding as I read about Lin-Manuel Miranda writing and singing a lullaby for the children.
NYT – The only good news all week, and it won’t last any longer than the next Spureme Court session. Sigh.
Cartoon: Well, Trump won’t do that! He’ll purge the moderates, if any can be found who still admit to being moderate.
As TC says, kudos to all demonstrators.
MSNBC: I don’t believe anything he (dt) says, anyhow.
ABC: Kudos to those who can go, and those who watch their backs. BTW…my cousin (she lives in Philly), sent me an email, that protesters are at the Trump’s National Golf Club, at Bedminster, NJ weekly. The lineup of cars is known as the ‘People’s Motorcade’, and it has been going on ever since May. The Mar-A-Lago is shuttered for the summer. Kudos to all who do.
NYT: Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale….repeat……
Cartoon: Yep. Helped Hitler become Führer and have absolute power.
Hope that you have a chance to relax and rest. Enjoy your evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.
ABC: About 300″/- people demonstrated against ICE here in town in front of the Town Courthouse.
All kinds of signs and many forms and ages of people were having an enjoyable and peaceful demonstration.
They were all walking about the square and around the block.
Yep, there were police cruisers up and about making sure that there ere not any troubles.
I have written that ICE has been a corrupt organization since bush 2 and should be abolished!
.
ICE didn’t even exist before Bush2 – it was established in 2003, a bastard child of 9/11 and the Patriot Act. So what you are (accurately) saying is that it has been corrupt since its inception.
Yes!
.
Re the cartoon: Don’t EVER think, for even a jiffy, that it couldn’t happen here.
MSNBC: No nominee that is put forth by Dumpy is going to turn our to be fit to be fit for anything other than erecting statues to Goebbels and Goering in the vestibule of his/her office!!!!!!! that is exactly what qualifies someone, in Dumpy’s sick mind!
ABC: KUDOS! KUDOS! KUDOS! Will this have any impact on Dumpy? I doubt it. Oh, wait, he’ll go on another twitter tirade accusing the protestors of being witches, or perverts, or extra-terrestrial who voted for Hillary!
NYT: Some good news i always welcome, especially in these dark days.
‘Toon: Having read a bunch of related books, including Ian Kershaw’s by of Hitler, it was a roundup of people on his hit list, all killed, one by one, some by people they once worked with, as I recall.

I agree twice!
MSNBC: That list reminded me most of:
ABCN: Let’s hope the hot summer we were awaiting last year is finally coming now. Kudos to all of you who participate in any form!
NYT: Did I read that right? Kentucky wants Medicaid recipients to work, volunteer or train for a job as a condition of coverage? Unless or until they get sick, I suppose. What does being able-bodied have to do with Medicaid coverage? Sounds like another way to deny healthcare to people who really need it.
Good call by James Boasberg, but it says much about the American judicial system, and its future, when the necessity arises to mention who appointed the judge in cases like this.
Cartoon: There’s little to purge for Drumpf, any GOPer that was the tiniest bit moderate has little or no chance of returning after the midterms and those who appeared to stand up against him on an issue or two has been reigned in by the GOP leaders with empty promises and, of course, money.
Puzzle — 4:38 Too sweet for me!
This on the news feed this morning from the CBC:
Isn’t that just sweet . . .NOT! From where I stand, the US has in effect an autocratic leader (sliding into fascism) and does not support human rights (separation of children on the southern border), even of its own people (the UN special rapporteur’s recent report). Drumpf, we do have a free press and televisions so we see what you are doing!
MSNBC — I read somewhere very recently that the list included 24 judges and Sen Mike Lee, although I have no confirmation of that. Lee??? He is not judge material but I suppose he has a brown nose!
Lona has it true to form — the list is like a police line-up. And the supposed front runner is an evangelical Christian who would deep-six Roe v Wade among other things. God have mercy on We the People!
ABC News — There was a demonstration in front of the US Consulate here yesterday as well as in other Canadian cities. We ARE watching what is happening. Protesters also marched on Vancouver’s Trump Tower. Here is a report from 1130news which has pictures of both American protests and the Toronto protest. And here is the Vancouver protest.
NY Times — Good news! As I recall, Medicaid has a high percentage of children and the disabled. Work requirements for children and the disabled? So this is support of human rights? Kentucky, get out to the poles and dump those Republicans!
Cartoon — The hell with Drumpf’s purges, it’s time to purge Drumpf and Republicans!!! . . . permanently.
Yesterday was a bad day as I started it off with a 2.8 blood sugar which screws up the whole day. It was not until late afternoon when I felt normal again. Having said that, I had an extra physio session yesterday morning which was a no energy session. It has been cool here and raining and is expected to continue that way.
I hope you feel better.
Thanks all. Rushed hugs.
