Barrack Obama nominated Merrick Garland, a centrist, and a truly bipartisan, compromise candidate. But the Republican Party insisted on a Nazi. Bought Bitch Mitch coined the McConnell Rule and stated that no Supreme Court confirmation could take place during an election year, because the people deserved a say. Garland was denied a hearing, and in 2017, Trump stole Obama’s appointment and put a goose-stepper on the court, Injustice Neil Whoresuch. Now Anthony Kennedy is retiring, and it’s an election year.
For many Democrats, Supreme Court turnabout would be fair play.
Reaction to Justice Anthony Kennedy’s surprise announcement that he will retire from the Supreme Court on July 31 was swift for many Democrats, some of whom said the Senate should follow the standard set by Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and deny a vote to President Trump’s next nominee to the high court.
In 2016, citing the upcoming election, McConnell blocked President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland. Now, with Trump and his fellow Republicans poised to cement conservative control of the high court, Democrats hope to turn the tables on the GOP.
“Our Republican colleagues in the Senate should follow the rule they set in 2016,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a speech on the Senate floor. “Senator McConnell would tell anyone who listened that the Senate had the right to advise and consent — and that was every bit as important as the president’s right to nominate.”
Schumer also said the Senate should reject any Supreme Court pick who would vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that affirmed a woman’s right to have an abortion… [emphasis added]

As usual, Rachel Maddow’s take on the subject is lengthily (25 min.), as she outlines the Democrat’s position, and explains how it may be possible to defeat Trump’s evil nominee.
One horrid possibility is that Bought Bitch Mitch will put off the vote as long as possible in order to push pseudo-Christians, who might have stayed home, to the polls to overturn Roe v. Wade.

No, there isn’t an echo in here. I’m just repeating myself.
Well, of course Mitch is backing off from “let the people speak.” This year isn’t a PRESIDENTIAL election. The best hope we have is to stall. Yes, I know, we are 49-51. But McCain might die. And if not, he might be unable to be present for the vote. Beyond that, we will never get a Republican vote – but we might be able to get an abstention. Or two. Maybe. WE HAVE TO TRY. A four-four court without Kennedy would at the very least be better than another Trump nominee on the court. Incidentally, Democrats had better be drafting legislation NOW to make any appointment by any Federal official who is under indictment invalid, and any appointment by any Federal official under investigation conditional on the official’s exoneration. Or at least having their staff do it.

I believe the fake election in 2016 was a direct result of the People (and the Democratic Leaders) allowing the RepubliCONs to block Pres. Obama’s rightful, legal Choice of Supreme Court Justice. It emboldened them & they found a way to make certain that the minority a$$holes got the pick. So the trump cult got ONE, they CANNOT be allowed to steal another! We can all wait until after this mid-term election’s winners are seated AND if we’re Lucky, we can wait another 2+ years before we seat another Judge!
Yvonne, Democrats did not allow it to happen. Republicans had the majority, so it was impossible for Democrats to get a vote on Garland. Then Republicans nuked the filibuster on Supreme Court Nominees making it impossible for Democrats to prevent a vote on Whoresuch. Blame Republicans, not Democrats.

The Rethuglicanazis cheated left, right and cattywampus to stack the court with reich-wing bugnuts. First, they f***ed over Obama with the 100% pure B.S. McConnell Rule; then they used the unscrupulous and unethical “Nuclear Option” to shove Gor(e)such(a creep) onto SCOTUS. If the Republicans played fair, we would still have a just and reliable court. However, we now have a court that will cater to the extreme anti-woman, anti-colored, anti-LGBTQ, anti-labor, hell, anti-everything-except-filthy-rich-white-straight-men crowd.
We need to fight tooth and nail, pull no punches, bar no holds, knock-down drag-out style to reverse our country’s slide into fascism. Contact your Senators and tell them NO Supreme Court Nominees till January – with hope, the Blue Wave will have washed enough Democrats in and enough Rethuglicans out so we have a fair chance to get a good SCOTUS nominee, or at least block any of tRump’s goose-stepping knuckle-draggers. (Hey, now that would be a sight – a creep simultaneously goose stepping and dragging its knuckles!) Sign petitions, make phone calls and tweets, send e-mails and even old-fashioned handwritten letters to make your voice heard – while you still can.

Sorry, nearly lost my breakfast when Mitch started his praises of Drumpf’s ‘well-considered’ list of candidates, which showed how well Drumpf understood that SCOTUS needed to be independent and bipartisan… I wouldn’t know if more of this vile hypocrisy came out, I had to abscond.
I hope Democrats finally have learned their lesson. No more being kind, playing it nice or whatever they did in 2016 when Mitch wouldn’t allow Obama to replace Scalia. Allowing this to happen again would seriously alter Americans’ life for a long time. They better remember that.

I don’t normally like retaliation, but in McTurtle’s case it is more than warranted. It is time that Democrats use the same ploy that McTurtle used in denying a confirmation hearing for Merrick Garland. Under Republicans, it is clear that SCOTUS has become another Republican political body instead of the non partisan legal court it was intended to be. I hope Democrats can do this, but I am not holding my breath.
And LMAO, his wife, Elaine Chao, Secretary of Transportation, had to come to his defense against protesters recently.
