Today’s high is only high 70°s, but the sun hit the wall early, so I had to button up the CatBox and  fire-up the AC.  WWWendy will be visiting San Antonio this weekend, only about 100 miles from Pat B.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:58 (average 4:44).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): Harley-Davidson Is Losing Jobs In President Donald Trump’s Trade War

Thousands of jobs will be lost and we will pay much more for lots of things, because of the Fuhrer’s Republican incompetence on trade. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From Alternet: Ahead of a closely watched New York primary on Tuesday, progressive gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon and congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezendorsed each other on Monday, and announced they are coming together at a Get Out the Vote event in Queens to “speak of their shared progressive, people-powered campaigns taking on centrist, corporate Democrats.”

As the New York primary on Tuesday only applies to federal races, Nixon—like everyone else running for state or local offices—will have until September 13 to continue campaigning. However, voters in the state’s 14th District will head to ballot boxes in less than 24 hours to choose between Ocasio-Cortez and Democratic Rep. Joe Crowley, who hasn’t faced a primary challenger in 14 years.

I certainly support Ocasio-Cortez, with the caveat that, if she loses the primary, even corporate Democrat Joe Crowley is infinitely better than a Republican. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From NY Times: In more than 20 of the most competitive House races of 2018, the share of Democrats voting in primaries notably increased, compared with 2014, the last midterm election cycle…

…Democrats have appeared to be more enthusiastic than Republicans about the 2018 elections, showing up in massive numbers to protest President Trump and volunteer for campaigns.

But to win the midterms, Democrats still have to translate that energy into votes. The still-unfolding season of primary elections has been encouraging to Democrats on that front.

Democratic turnout has risen more sharply than Republican turnout in at least 123 congressional districts, including districts where Republican incumbents are most vulnerable, in states like California and New Jersey.

This  kind of activism is far more productive than self-defeating talk of a wave. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

  1. 5:57 I can’t balance one, canoe?

Kudos to Kossack Johnny Wendell for finding and posting this tweet:

This is fairly technical, but it’s good to be aware that the Census is providing some software to help compensate for undercounting. So if we lose the battle on the citizenship question (and that would be terrible, because there’s no way to undo the errors in redistribution of Congress), at least State and Local government will have some way to get a better understanding.

MSNBC – and Guess what – “Bikers for Trump” is whining.

AlterNet – From your keyboard to God’s monitor.

NYT – I am on a lot of candidates’ email lists (so many I sometimes have to open one just to see what state he or she is running in because I can’t remember LOL), and from what I can see, GOTV is being pushed bigly. May that continue!!!

Cartoon: Oh, that good, ya think?

  2. MSNBC: Kinda figured this was going to happen. dt’s sinking the boat, and isn’t even aware of what he’s doing. Gawd help us all.

    AN: Way to GO !!!!

    NYT: Great news!!!

Cartoon: Now that’s one crazy set of tracks too! https://www.ask.com/youtube?q=train+that+runs+on+wobbly+tracks&v=9X2A2f6E5DI

Hi Wendy! An early Welcome to Texas! Enjoy your visit, hope that you get to enjoy the River Walk, see the Alamo, get a view of the Japanese Gardens (it’s on N. St. Mary’s Street), and try Garcia’s for some awesome food. So much to do there! Also, early morning, and late afternoon and evening is best to move around, avoid the hot sun. Have FUN!!

I mowed the front and back this morning of the estate (lol). It sure is hot and muggy outside. Hope that you have a good evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. It’s good to see that more Democrats are voting in midterms. However, this momentum has to build more and keep up even past November, in case of runoffs. As the cliche goes, this is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. And what a marathon!

  4. MSNBC: Badda boom, again!: http://www.care2.com/news/member/565542931/4109166
Altrnet: If I recall correctly, CNN, at the gym, picked Ocasioi-Cortez.  Faux News, at the gym: “Anti-Trump FBI agent to testify.”  How about “An FBI agent who has information that the committee wishes to hear, will testify?”  The only Anti-thing around if Faux, being Anti-truth, pro-propaganda, as it is
    NYT: GET THAT VOTE OUT!!!!!!!!!
‘Toon: Dumpy is certainly off the rails.

  5. Lawrence O’Donnell: Lawrence really had the last word here in this excellent item based on personal experience and inside knowledge of international trade. He made Drumpf to look the fool he really is, as he is wont to do, but restricted himself to the Harley Davidson decision; nothing (yet) on Drumpf’s megalomaniacal threats to the company on twitter. More to come, I hope.

Alternet: Wonderful that Democrats went with progressive Ocasio-Corteze instead of wannabe Speaker, Joe Crowley.

NYT: Excellent news, but Freya is right, Democratic fervour shouldn’t slack off immediately after November. The midterms are only the first big battle in the war against GOP & Drumpf.

Cartoon: that train is still running.

  7. Well let’s see if I can finish this before you start Puddy Tat.  I actually had it done but my computer decided to turn itself off just before I was going to post my comment thus losing everything.  You will get the Squatch Digest edition.

Puzzle — 4:04  A beautiful setting in a beautiful country!

MSNBC — Harley Davidson has to what is right for the business (provided it’s legal) and Drumpf, a smart businessman so he says, should know that.  HD is not moving production completely to another country, only for products that are destined for Europe so as to avoid the European tariffs which are in response to Drumpf’s tariffs.  And the same is true for HD’s Asia market having production in Thailand.  In another article I read Monday, Drumpf said that he was betrayed by the HD CEO.  What a narcissist fool!!!  Everything is about him in his mind!!!  Interesting isn’t it that his branded products are made elsewhere, not the US and that’s OK, but it is not OK for other businesses.

AlterNet — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez handed Crowley his walking papers quite handedly.  I understand that Crowley has now endorsed her.  I feel the Bern!!!

NY Times — Dear Republicans, Your asses are grass and progressives are the lawnmowers!!!

GET OUT THE VOTE!!!  VOTE BLUE!!!

Cartoon — Yup!  There is a picture that shows up from time to time of a bridge being built.  Construction starts from both sides of the river with the intention of meeting in the middle.  They don’t!  They are about 20 – 50 feet off.  I always think of that picture when I think of Republican infrastructure planning.

It has been cool the past few days with some winds and a bit of rain.  More of the same is on its way.  In Newfoundland, this is how Tuesday morning looked.

And some deny there is such a thing as climate change?

“Residents of Newfoundland, Canada, were greeted with snow and biting cold winds Tuesday morning despite the fact that July begins in just a few days.

Gander, Newfoundland, reported light snow and a wind chill of 20 degrees Fahrenheit in the hours after sunrise Tuesday. The average high temperature in this city of nearly 12,000 people is in the 60s during June and near 70 degrees in July.”
