Here in the CatBox, I’m enjoying the fresh air as long as I can.  The sun will be coming out soon and turning my wall into a radiator, so it will be button up and AC time.  I won’t have time to research this today, but I hear the Fuhrer screwed the pooch in his North Korea deal.  Kim has been acting nasty since Bolton announced North Korea will be on the Libya plan.  You can’t blame Kim, considering the US role in the fate of Daffy Qaddafi.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:31 (average 4:45).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): James Clapper Russia Assessment Calls Donald Trump Legitimacy Into Question (almost 20 min.)

Flake, who is quitting and keeps goose stepping on the way out, may be right, but every time I think we’ve hit bottom, the Republican Reich redefines low downward. RESIST!!

From Huffington Post: The American Civil Liberties Union is suing Ohio to strike down the state’s congressional map, saying it was intentionally drawn to so egregiously benefit Republicans that it violates the Constitution.

Since 2012, Republicans have consistently won the same 12 of Ohio’s 16 congressional seats, while winning between 51 and 59 percent of the state’s popular vote. The suit alleges that Republicans maintain this remarkable advantage because they controlled the redistricting process in 2011 and worked in secret to draw a map to guarantee just that outcome each year.

The suit was filed Wednesday in federal court on behalf of 16 voters in each of the state’s congressional districts, the Ohio chapter of the League of Women Voters and the A. Philip Randolph Institute, a labor and civil rights group.

Kudos to the ACLU and all parties bringing the suit. RESIST!!

From Daily Kos: NBC29 has the awful report of a Louisa County, Virginia four year old who shot and killed his two-year-old brother by accident in his home on Tuesday morning.

Tyler “Ty” Aponte was shot around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 22. Authorities say his 4-year-old brother thought the gun was a toy when he accidentally shot Tyler. […]

"It’s horrible, it’s devastating. You come into a scene like this and you see all the carnage. You see everything," said Major Donnie Lowe, Louisa County Sheriff’s Office.

Linda Eddy, a neighbor, said she has no idea how the children could have found a gun: "There is no way that they would leave a loaded gun out. They’re good people, they’re Christians. They’re good people, and take care of their children and make sure they have everything they need."

Republican Ammosexuals would be relieved that the gun was not harmed, since they obviously care more for their guns than for their children. RESIST!!

  1. 6:38 He looks irascible. If you must pursue this sea turkey, wear protective armor on your tummy. That’s what they go for.

    Re Kim:

MSNBC – I’ve been calling him “Flake by name, Flake by nature” as long as I’ve known the name. Now, Trumpettes will be calling him “Flake by name, Flake by nature.” As far as his voting record is concerned … Mitch McConnell will not allow any measure which might look like criticism of Trump, or support of Mueller’s investigation, to come to the floor. I can’t believe Rachel has to explain WHY human sources must be protected. Not on MSNBC. (And I doubt Fox News watchers will ever understand anyway.) I suppose the Clapper “bombshell” (the quotes are because, as Clapper himself says, to believe otherwise stretches credulity to the breaking point – so it should be no surprise) is not being talked about because it’s literally the elephant in the room.

HuffPo – Kudos and might to the ACLU and company. This is absolutely needed.

DKos – I suspect Ms. Eddy is not herself a gun owner. If she were, she would know how easy it is to leave guns unsecured – so easy that (I believe the figure is) 86% of gun owners do it.

Cartoon – Heck, TC, you’re trying to sell it yourself!

  2. MSNBC: Excellent video. By definition, dt is an Illegitimate potus. But, we knew that all along, didn’t we? Boy, seems every day new info comes out. The hole continues to get deeper and deeper. wow!!!

HP: Hope the repugs don’t try to throw a wrench in the lawsuit either. Kudos to ACLU for bringing this into the light!

DK: Gawd. I don’t own any guns, never have, never will. I don’t support the NRA, and feel a great depression when I read stories such as this one. A.GAIN! WHEN will this insanity stop????!!!

Cartoon: I would venture to think that a 1 bedroom apt would be about 2-3K a month, in Brooklyn, why not hole up in one of the nooks and crannies of the Brooklyn bridge? It would certainly help the homeless, something the repugs don’t think about. imho.

Mowed the back ’40’, and I’m down for the count. Hot and sticky today too. Bolton & dt are a nasty cocktail, imho. Hope that you have a good relaxing evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. HP: We have some serious gerrymandering problems in Georgia. The real problem is how to draw a map that favors neither party.

DK: When will people accept that the right to keep and bear arms comes with a trainload of responsibility?

Cartoon: I’m surprised they haven’t sold it, since their supporters are just the sort of suckers who would buy bridges!

  4. i gotta see that bridge one day!!! 20

    • My today’s “Daily Picture” wallpaper photo was the Brooklyn Bridge under construction back in 1883!

    • It’s a nice bridge.  Being from the left coast I’m partial to the Golden Gate myself.  But I doubt either can hold a candle to the Sydney Opera House (which I would love to see some day.)

  5. Rachel Maddow: My goodness, how much information can you cram into a little under 20 minutes?! Let’s start with the revelations BBC’s Paul Woods made (BBC News, Kiev, 23 May 2018):

Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, received a secret payment of at least $400,000 (£300,000) to fix talks between the Ukrainian president and President Trump, according to sources in Kiev close to those involved.

The payment was arranged by intermediaries acting for Ukraine’s leader, Petro Poroshenko, the sources said, though Mr Cohen was not registered as a representative of Ukraine as required by US law.

    Mr Cohen denies the allegation.

The meeting at the White House was last June. Shortly after the Ukrainian president returned home, his country’s anti-corruption agency stopped its investigation into Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort. [emphasis mine]

A high-ranking Ukrainian intelligence officer in Mr Poroshenko’s administration described what happened before the visit to the White House.

Mr Cohen was brought in, he said, because Ukraine’s registered lobbyists and embassy in Washington DC could get Mr Poroshenko little more than a brief photo-op with Mr Trump. Mr Poroshenko needed something that could be portrayed as “talks”.

Once again Manafort has been selling access to Drumpf after which the a deal seemed to have been struck to stop any aid to Mueller’s investigation. No wonder Mueller never finishes that investigation, Drumpf and his minions are piling obstruction on obstruction.
Add to that Clapper’s bold but undoubtedly correct conclusion that Drumpf’s ‘reign’ is illegitimate because it was the Russian interference in the election on too many levels to mention – and a little help from the GOP top? – which bought Drumpf his ‘victory’, and it’s hard to disagree with Republican Senator Flake that American democracy is under threat, no matter how Republican Flake behaves himself when in the Senate.
How many different ways does the GOP needs to get it spelled out before they stop interfering with Mueller’s investigation themselves and salvage what’s left of their party before they detonate themselves, Drumpf and his administration and in fact the country itself?

HP: Kudos to all who filed this suit; fingers crossed a new map is in place in time for the midterms.

DK: A four-year-old shoots his two-year-old brother and kills him with a gun he thought was a toy and their neighbour moans: “There is no way that they would leave a loaded gun out. They’re good people, they’re Christians…” I’m sorry but that kind of thinking makes absolutely no sense to me. Because they’re good, Christian people these gun-owning parents automatically fall in the 15 percent category of people who follow safe and secure gun storage?

    Stay cool and comfy, TomCat.

  6. Puzzle — 3:26  Saved from the Puddy Tat by the Sasquatch!!!  In saving the bird, I’m also saving you, Puddy Tat!!!

    I’ll be back!

    • MSNBC — The Drumpf administration is acting like a fifth column within the US to bring it to its knees.  For those who  have not heard the term ‘fifth column’, it is “a group within a country at war who are sympathetic to or working for its enemies.”  I know, technically the US is not at war, not enduring a declared war, but its leadership (Drumpf administration and Republicans) are at war with the US constitution, the rule of law, and We The People.  As to Jeff Flake, in order to be credible, one must walk the talk and Flake does not.  However I do agree with much that he said.  Makes me wonder: what do the Republican leadership have on Flake to seemingly ‘force’ him to vote in Congress the way he has while saying the opposite.

Damn, there’s another book that sounds interesting to read!  My reading list is growing faster than I can read!  I wonder if it will come out in a Reader’s Digest abridged version?

Huff Post — Kudos to the ACLU and complainants!  May they endure to knock Ohio Republicans on their collective keister!  . . . and restore some sense of law and fairness!

Daily Kos — Linda Eddy:”They’re good people, they’re Christians.”  Hmmmm . . . so Christians don’t make mistakes?  I wonder what Jesus they follow . . . the pseudo Christian me thinks, not the real one!

Cartoon — It is amazing that it is still standing with the lack of infrastructure spending in the US!

I have busier than a one-armed paper hanger this week, and next week looks almost as bad.  It was nice to finally have a respite from the heat but it will be back come Sunday.  Yesterday was quite warm but at least the evenings have been cool for sleeping.  My younger brother turns 65 next week and will retire on 01 June, the day after his birthday.  My little one is going to visit her grandparents and family in Iran for 5 weeks in July, with her mother, so my Wednesdays will be light for part of the summer.  Hmmm. . . no hugs from that 9 year old for over a month!  Arrggghhhh!!!!!

    • With no tasty bird, I’ll just have to chow down on a huge plate of chili. ?

      • Go ahead!  I had really tasty chili Wednesday and sent some directly to you by Fed Ex! . . .well not some chili, only the deleterious effects!  070707

  7. Thanks all.  Chili Hugs! 25
