This morning my microwave oven died, and since that is my main cooking appliance, and absolutely necessary to have, I have to spend the day replacing it.  Fortunately it’s WWWendy’s regular day.  This is my only article today.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:07 (average 5:05).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

From YouTube (C-SPAN Channel): Michelle Wolf COMPLETE REMARKS at 2018 White House Correspondents’ Dinner

This is so funny and so true that, if you haven’t watched it, you owe yourself the treat.  RESIST!!

  1. C-Span: What a biting tongue she has!! I loved it!! Here’s her note firing back at her critics:

Hope that you get your new microwave in today. Hi WWWendy!!! Have a good day, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

Boy, do I identify with you on the microwave. I have a complete kitchen myself, but a day when I don’t use the microwave is a day when I don’t eat any hot food. I’m on my second one, and when the first one died, it was a very black day indeed.

Michelle Wolf – Yes, she hit it out of the park. And everyone is talking. Many are not saying nice things, which means she hit some nerves – GOOD!

I personally find it fascinating to compare her remarks with remarks made by male hosts at previous dinners … back in the day when Presidents actually attended such things. I have often been appalled that comics said what they did to people’s faces. This year I merely chuckled. I certainly see no need for anyone to go into orbit about her being overly insulting.

Cartoon – Yeah, no kidding. And THEY think WE want to kill THEM. The left desireth not the death of a Republican, but rather that he turn from his evil ways and live.

  3. That cartoon is all too true!

  4. It was nice to see SHS, feeling like the s**t was coming back at her; deserved every bit of it!!!!!

  5. Thanks for posting Michelle Wolf’s roast, TomCat. Now I know what all the brouhaha was all about.

I didn’t laugh as much as I had hoped for, but that that had less to do with the content – tons of truths in there – but more with Michelle Wolf as a comedienne. I’m just not that fond of her comedy style, a tad too brutal for me.

It must have been hard to come up with new jokes about Drumpf and Republicans with so many other comedians having a go at them on a daily basis. She did come up with some genuinely new one, I give her that.

Good luck with replacing your microwave oven, TomCat. From the descriptions of the wonderful food you present to friends, I gather it is a combination of an oven and microwave. Lots to choose from, but the time of delivery the main factor determining your final choice, I suppose.

    • In general, I agree with the brutality of her approach, but in this particular circumstance, it was far more mild than what they dish out every day. 01

  6. Puzzle — 4:15 Yes, I was finally able to open it and do it!  Woo Hoo!!!  The fellow at Staples confirmed that my puter was just fine.  He suggested unplugging the router for 30 seconds and then plugging it in again and let it cycle through.  It worked!!!  If that had not worked, I’d have to call Telus.  I am very glad to have my window on the world, my lifeline back!

C-SPAN — I watched and found much of it funny, but what was just as good was watching people like Huckabee Sanders squirm.  She sat there, very dour faced throughout the whole routine, whether she was the subject or not.  Reince Priebus was a target but he was laughing.  I read somewhere that Lyin’ Ryan sat there stone-faced.  And of course, let’s not forget Drump’s reaction after the fact — from Time:

“The White House Correspondents’ Dinner was a failure last year, but this year was an embarrassment to everyone associated with it,” the President tweeted on Sunday night. “The filthy ‘comedian’ totally bombed (couldn’t even deliver her lines-much like the Seth Meyers weak performance). Put Dinner to rest, or start over!” Trump made a reference to late-night host Seth Meyer’s 2011 performance at the dinner, in which the comedian roasted Trump.

Like usual, it is OK for Drumpf to lie, deceive, ridicule and lampoon anyone and all, and not as a comedy routine, but a female comedy entertainer is not allowed to do what Michelle Wolf did?  The hypocrisy is too thick!

Howard Fineman had a different take when he tweeted:

RE #MichelleWolf: 1. Yep: blunt, crude, pitiless. Remind you of, say, a president? 2. She torched EVERYONE, even #Dems, #Stormy, #media. 3. She wasn’t playing to all America or the room, but to her #Netflix deal. 4. She was INVITED. 5. It’s not her job to behave. 6. She’s funny.

Part of the role of comedy is to expose the ridiculous and absurd.  I wonder what Drumpf would have said had comedian Don Rickles, who died in 2017 at the age of 90, performed at the dinner?

    Cartoon — Yup!  Outrageous!!!

I hear you on the microwave!  I made a casserole for a Seder dinner, a church function about a month ago, and I had trouble using the oven controls initially.  It was the first time in over a year . . . I almost exclusively use my microwave, or my crockpot.  I hope you were able to get a decent one.  They are relatively cheap now which is good. This week will be a very busy one ending with a fund raising gala on Saturday at which I am scheduled to speak and then the walk on Sunday.  Next week is shaping up to be busy too, but for today, it is the dentist at noon!

    • Here from AlterNet is Rob Reiner’s views on Michelle Wolf’s performance:

Rob Reiner ✔@robreiner  I attended the WHCD last night. Donald Trump has so poisoned the atmosphere by attacking the disabled, gold star parents, Muslims, Mexicans, Blacks, women, the press, the rule of law that a comedian who simply tells the truth is offensive? She’s joking. He’s not.

      4:30 AM – Apr 29, 2018

I have admired Reiner since his days as “Meathead”, Archie Bunker’s son-in-law on All In The Family.

      • That same link also includes a COMPLETE TRANSCRIPT of Wolf’s remarks … so anyone who prefers reading to listening, or wants to quote some part of it accurately without back-and-forth listening to get the transcription correct, should bookmark the page.  If Squatch hadn’t posted the link, I would have, for the transcript alone.

  7. Thanks and tiring hugs! 17
