Here is the one hundred twelfth article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is Republican Representative for Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District, Martha McSally She is so honored for her Republican bigotry and hatred.
Before she was a U.S. Representative for Arizona and a U.S. Senate candidate, Martha McSally made her name as an Air Force pilot from Rhode Island who sued the Department of Defense in 2002 to avoid having to wear an abaya off-base while stationed in Saudi Arabia. But a year later, in a commencement speech at Rhode Island College (in which she says Rhode Island is her home state), she told an Islamophobic and tasteless joke that foreshadowed her anti-immigrant, xenophobic political career.
As the recipient of an honorary degree from Rhode Island College, a public institution located in Providence, McSally told graduates that she was thankful to be “home from Saudi Arabia.” After mispronouncing the name of the college’s president, she began her address noting that she’d spent roughly 500 days deployed there over the previous two-plus years. Affecting a mocking Saudi accent, she joked that she’d been there so often that, on her last trip there, a Saudi officer had seen her and said, “Ah, welcome home.”
“I said ‘I gotta find another line of work. This is not good,” she quipped. It went downhill from there… [emphasis added]

Barf Bag Alert!!
Since then, McSally has remained a Muslim hating bigot, and a strong opponent of DACA, while claiming to be “moderate”. Perhaps her fellow Republicans will goose step moderately during her parade.
RESIST THE REPUBLICAN REICH!!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
It’s bad enough that republicans are supreme hate-mongers.
It’s unforgiveable that they REVEL in their hate.
Good Grief!!!! ick!
Not willing to wear an abaya. My God. That also shows terrible fashion taste. Let me demonstrate.
Those are just two examples of abayas Muslim women can wear … both of which are much more attractive than what McSally is wearing, not counting the academic gown, in which she herself looks terrible. (Any woman who wants to can actually wear these … they don’t ask your religion at checkout.)
Those are really quite handsome. Probably not for everyday wear, but for special occasions.
Yes, I picked a couple with embroidery and beads/sequins because they are so striking. But there are plenty in colorful prints available which could be worn every day. A few in black too, but no one would need to wear black based in just availability. Not surprising, I guess, that McSally has no fashion sense when she has none of any other kind either.

The more racist and xenophobic they can claim to be, the better the a**hole a their center will love them!
What a difference between McSally and Lt Colonel Amy McGrath, Democrat from Kentucky also running for Congress. Wouldn’t it be great to see these two women running against each other.
McSally fits perfectly into the role of the Ugly American!
I hope you don’t mind editing your article and changing hanged the Altenet link, which pointed to an Al Gore article, to point to McSally’s, TomCat.
The “landmine joke” is as old as the Middle Eastern conflict; I must have heard it some 25 years ago, some time before she’s telling it to her audience. It must have been around many troupes stationed in the ME. It didn’t bode well for a future politician that had to pass off an Islamophobic stale joke as her own experience.
And it did go “downhill from there…” didn’t it. She really deserves her place on Republicans on Parade with her increasingly extreme right-wing policies:

Lona, I could not find an Alternet link here.
Thanks all. Tired hugs.
Sorry, I meant in ‘Inserted from Think Progress’
It’s the right link.
