Trolling Trump!

Fuhrer Drumpfenfarten has a real problem.  His best friend’s ally, Bashar Hafez al-Assad, Fuhrer of Syria, is gassing his own people with chemical weapons again.  It is unlikely that he would do so without tacit approval from Vladimir Putin (R-RU), since he depends on Putin to keep him in power.  Trump’s problem is that America understands this and is furious.

During his relatively brief time in politics, Donald Trump has viciously attacked respected politicians on both sides of the aisle, beloved public figures, many key U.S. allies, and most of the institutions of our democracy. In that time, Trump has been consistently afraid to say anything even remotely negative about Russian President Vladimir Putin – until now. So why is Trump suddenly ranting on Twitter about Putin right now? There explanation is probably pretty straightforward.

Trump tweeted this about Putin on Saturday: “Many dead, including women and children, in mindless CHEMICAL attack in Syria. Area of atrocity is in lockdown and encircled by Syrian Army, making it completely inaccessible to outside world. President Putin, Russia and Iran are responsible for backing Animal Assad. Big price to pay. Open area immediately for medical help and verification. Another humanitarian disaster for no reason whatsoever. SICK!” It’s a very tame attack on Putin when compared to his usual attacks on other public figures. But he didn’t have much of a choice here, and he knows it.

The last time Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad launched a chemical attack on his own people, the resulting horrific images prompted a public demand for action across the U.S. political spectrum. Even though Bashar is being propped up by Putin, Trump had to attack Bashar – or at least create the appearance of it. So Trump lobbed a few missiles at the outer edges of a Syrian air base that had conveniently already been evacuated, doing minimal damage, and the air base was back up and running just days later. It was Trump’s way of giving in to the American public’s demand for action, without doing any actual damage to Putin’s Syrian puppet…

Palmer suggests that Putin might have suggested that Trump attack him in a tweet.  I think he’s right, but I don’t think America will consider the twit’s tweet as a sufficient response.  I think it’s more likely that we will launce another airstrike, of which Putin is warned in advance, so Assad can get his assets clear again.

I do, however, worry that Trump will take some action against Iran, who had nothing to do with it.

  1. You are suggesting Trump’s handling of this is pure theatre? I’m shocked – shocked, I tell you!

  2. The irony is almost unbearable that after Twitler’s saber-rattling blaming Putin for the attack, Putin turned around had Maj. Gen. Yuri Yevtushenko, who heads Russia’s center for Syrian reconciliation, call Twitler’s  accusation:

    “Fake news!”

    • LOL!  Unbearable indeed!  Show us the bear!

      • I’m saving that bear for when I get back into the swing of things doing a Post.

        • Oh, OK.  Take your time.  Hope thngs are going as well as can be expected.

          • Well, the problem is that it seems the “torch” has been passed to my brother.

He’s been hospitalized three times since our Mom’s funeral on 2/13/18.

Not the most encouraging of events.  Made more difficult by his being in the Tampa Metro, me in the KCMO Metro & his son in the San Francisco Bay Metro.

Fortunately his daughter-in-law lives in the Tampa Metro – but 55  miles away, so not exactly neighbors.

            • Well, dang.  I have a friend in the Tampa metro, but I just talked with her and she is dealing with her father’s stroke, and her sister and brother are not helping.  I really was hoping he’d have come out to be with you.  More thoughts and prayers – all I can send.

  3. Future generations are probably going to wonder how the f*** the USA survived the tRump regime. Provided, of course, that it does.

  4. Horrible, and so sad!!!

  5. What a triumvirate of filth, parading as human!

  6. The sick games politicians play to fool the masses and stay in power. Who cares about the collateral damage (those same masses).

TomCat, I’m so with you on: “I do, however, worry that Trump will take some action against Iran, who had nothing to do with it.” Last night our news had Drumpf blaming Assad, Russia and Iran for the use of chemical weapons and our immediate reaction was: “Where did Iran so suddenly pop up from?” Yes, Iran has supported Assad, as did Russia, an in fact the US, but there was never any mention of Iran in connection with this or the previous chemical attacks, was there?” But America, i.e. Drumpf, has consistently calling Iran a patron of Assad and is doing so again now.

In 2012, when after the chemical attacks Assad was forced to destroy his stockpile of chemical weaponry, news sprung up that the chemicals for these weapons were mass-produced in Iran, but that was quickly referred back to the land of fake news and fables, apparently stemming from much the same source that brought us Sadam’s weapons of mass destruction. But Drumpf is in need of a “bad guy” again, and Iran has been on his radar for some time, and has never been off his new national security advisor Bolton’s personal radar. Drumpf has promised to react to Assad’s chemical attack on his own people within 48 hours, and this morning news broke that the FBI raised the offices of Drumpf’s lawyer, Cohen. Besides wanting to fire Mueller again, we can be pretty sure that Iran is coming up in the discussions between Drumpf and Bolton, don’t you think? The revival of the fake news about Iran’s mass production of chemicals will follow soon after. Russia, of course, will not be mentioned again.

  7. My first reaction as I approached the end of the article was that this is pure theatre, bad theatre, but theatre nonetheless.  Too bad there is nothing to show that Drumpf’s theatrical actions are indeed collusion with Russia.

“I do, however, worry that Trump will take some action against Iran, …”

I agree, especially now that Bolton has taken up residence in Drumpf’s orbit and both detest the Iran deal.  It would not be the first time that a Republican president has started a war on false pretenses . . . Baby Bush and Iraq come to mind.
