The Republican No Dream Plan

The Republican Party donned their sheets and hoods for the official unveiling of the Republican No Dream Plan.  It begins with offering a path to citizenship for 1.8 million Dreamers that is too vague and too far in the future to be realistic.  That’s the best part.  Next, Republicans set their crosses afire.

It looks like the official White House “immigration deal” is to allow Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients to stay in the U.S. in exchange for Stephen Miller’s white supremacist wishlist:

The White House presented Congress Thursday with an immigration reform plan that would satisfy a key Democratic demand—offering a path to citizenship for 1.8 million undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children—in exchange for dramatic restrictions on immigration going forward and a $25 billion fund for border security.

In a call with Republican Hill staffers Thursday afternoon, a senior White House official outlined a one-page framework. The official called the new proposal “a compromise position that we believe… will get 60 votes in the Senate” and “a framework that ultimately will lead to passage of a law.”

The official told Republican staffers that the White House proposal would establish a $25 billion trust fund for a border defense system, including a wall along the Mexican border—a key campaign promise made by President Donald Trump that he has repeatedly indicated must be included in a final deal. That money would also go toward technology and security at the Canadian border.

The framework also eliminates the visa lottery and curbs U.S. migration by extended families, a fundamental change to existing immigration policy. New citizens would be able to sponsor their immediate families—spouses and children—to legally enter the country, but other relatives would be excluded.

The White House’s demands—let’s be honest, Miller’s demands—take a sledgehammer to American values. Not to mention, wasn’t Mexico supposed to pay for that wall? “Dead on arrival,” tweeted United We Dream. “We reject a plan that would terrorize, detain and deport the rest of the immigrant community, specially those in the border.”…

Here’s a local news report from Phoenix, Arizona with Dreamers’ response to the Republican proposal.

The Dreamers oppose the plan, because they cannot, in good conscience, accept citizenship at that cost of deporting their families and destroying their communities.  So far, Republicans are refusing to negotiate in good faith.

RESIST THE REPUBLICAN REICH!!

  1. What I am seeing, even if Trump’s offer were acceptable, is this:

Trump makes an offer to pass some kind of a Dream Act. It gets drafted and, in order to look like he is keeping a promise, McConnell allows it a vote. If – IF – it passes the Senate, it goes to the House. Paul Ryan, who has been careful to promise nothing, will not even let it out of committee. Republicans then claim they are negotiating in good faith and the whole thing is the Democrats’ fault. (And, of course, if, since they are NOT negotiating in good faith, if the Democrats turn it down for that reason, it’s the Democrats’ fault even before it goes to the Senate.)

As I said yesterday, and will probably say again many times, ewe need to grab them by the midterms. Then maybe we can get something done.

    (P.S. – I’m stealing your meme.)

  2. You know what I say about the dam wall, don’t you? Get rid of Miller too!KEEP our Dreamers here!!Dreamers shouldn’t be held hostage, nor do we need the stupid wall, at the tune of 25 BILLION $$.

  3. Not at all surprised that tRump’s offered path to citizenship is not only long and convoluted, but has lots of gotchas. Beware of Republicans bearing gifts!

  4. If Democrats give in to these demands, and this would pass The House in some inconceivable way, it’s all too clear what would happen. Most Dreamers will never make it citizen a decade or more from now and the Republicans have a further argument ($25 billion and then some added to the deficit they created with their tax cuts) to cut down on welfare. And guess who Drumpf and the Republicans are going to blame for that? On Democrats AND Dreamers, ripping the country even further apart and undermining Democrats retaking Congress in the midterms. Democrats, I hope you’ve learned your lesson and never ever get complacent again!

  5. The Democrats have folded to unreasonable Republican demands too often.  They are not much better for us now.

  6. “So far, Republicans are refusing to negotiate in good faith.” — When have Republicans ever negotiated in good faith?  As one young dreamer said in the video, so much more could be accomplished with the $25 billion trust fund.

I agree with JD.  Tails Republicans win.  Heads, Republicans win.

Get out and make a huge difference in the 2018 mid terms.

  7. Thanks all.  Sleepy Hugs! 23

  8. When tDump says he will negotiate, get your “Bulls**t” detector up and running!!!!

  9. It will be helpful to remember that Paul Ryan is a hypocrite.
Paul Ryan gained much of his position in life by availing himself of government programs; Those very programs which he would deny the benefit of to others.
