I was planning to publish a normal load today, but you know what they say about the best laid plans of mice, men and cats.  I normally get up at 4:30 AM on Sunday.  That gives me time to dress, cook breakfast, eat, clean up, collect and lay out my shower supplies, collect and lay out my change of clothes, spend some time on the porcelain throne to unload a few Republicans, do my research for the day, and get a head start on writing, before Wendy arrives at 8:30.  I overslept this morning and awakened at 6:15.  I must need more sleep, as I dozed on the throne in mid-Republican.  I had virtually no time for research, so this is my only article today.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:07 (average 4:56).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Take:

From Huffington Post: The size of oxygen-starved ocean “dead zones,” where plants and animals struggle to survive, has increased fourfold around the world, according to a new scientific analysis.

The growth of the zones is yet another consequence of global warming — including increasing ocean temperatures — triggered by greenhouse gases and, closer to the coasts, contamination by agricultural runoff and sewage.

“Rising nutrient loads coupled with climate change — each resulting from human activities — are changing ocean biogeochemistry and increasing oxygen consumption,” says the study published in the journal Science. Ultimately, such changes are “unsustainable and may result in ecosystem collapses, which ultimately will cause societal and economic harm.”

I think they should be called Republican zones.  RESIST!!

  1. 4:27  Is that name pronounced the way I think it is?

    New cartoon (copyrighted, therefore linked)

HuffPo – I hope everyoone who has a chance will click through, not just to HuffPo, but to its sources, such as the Science link that TC included.  There is more to this than meets the eye at a glance, and it’s all scary.  Thanks for featuring it, RC.  It’s a silver lining to a bad day that not having time to add other short takes will give it more exposure.

Cartoon – I’m not sure that even a BJ from a ten-yesr old male disabled undocumented veteran would get the attention of Republicans today.

  2. Don’t worry about having an occasional “off” day. Everybody has one. Take it easy and focus on getting better.

That map of ocean dead zones is definitely unnerving. I fear that, very soon, the proverbial poo is going to hit the fan.

  3. HuffPo: It is, indeed, very frightening to me, in looking how this world, our world … in how our ecosystem(s) is dying out. I’m very concerned at what we are leaving for future generations. So, so very sad.

Cartoon: Gosh, so long ago. In reply to your comment, does THAT come with a big mac & fries? lol.

    *Joanne, Good one! lol

I sure hope that you go back to bed, and rest. Hope that you have a good evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  4. “Would someone PLEASE give Putin’s Pervert a blow job?”
i suspect that is what the circle jerk at Camp David over the weekend was about.

  5. Nothing is ever simple, not even in nature.Over production of oxygen quickly leads to oxygen deficiency and a dead zone. I knew from fighting for the Great Barrier Reef that farming and other human activity along the rivers that spill into the Pacific is almost as deadly to the Reef as opening up more huge coal mines, but I never realized it was equally bad, or worse, in other places as well. Human overpopulation seems to be at the centre of all evil.

  6. Puzzle — 4:09  Where I previously lived, we called these street sweepers/ploughs!

    Huff Post —

“… called the plunge in ocean oxygen “among the most serious effects of human activities on the Earth’s environment.” Oxygen is “fundamental to life in the oceans,” she said in a statement.”

    From the video:

“… researchers says if humans can slow climate change and pollution, we could help oceans get back to producing oxygen.”

Perhaps oxygen deprivation explains Republican attitudes against climate science . . . or are they trying to help by reducing the American population through the absence of health care?

The best solution would be to rid ourselves of Republicans and like minded individuals.

Aw . . . sleep!  That has been my problem also which I am chalking up to the cold.  The other day, I slept until  1600 hours.  Not even hungry kitties could wake me!

  7. Thanks all.

    Sweaty Sticky Hugs

Someone DID give him that BJ (See today’s Open Thread). 12

  8. Just got here, today.  I will try to address the climate issue on a TC posting for the 8th.  TC, I hope you are feeling better.

  9. I’m on board with Lynn S.’ statement,
“Perhaps oxygen deprivation explains Republican attitudes against climate science . . . or are they trying to help by reducing the American population through the absence of health care?

At this time it seems that greedy, self-serving republicans are the greatest threat to the USA and the globe.
