From Huffington Post: More than 100 countries defied President Donald Trump on Thursday and voted in favor of a United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for the United States to drop its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Trump had threatened to cut off financial aid to countries that voted in favor. A total of 128 countries backed the resolution, nine voted against and 35 abstained.
Trump’s threat appeared to have some impact, with more countries abstaining and rejecting the resolution than usually associated with Palestinian-related resolutions.
Nevertheless, Washington found itself isolated on the world stage as many of its Western and Arab allies voted for the measure.
Kudos to all nations that voted against Fuhrer Nincompoop Nazi and for peace. RESIST!!
From Think Progress: During his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, Michigan Republican Pete Hoekstra earned a reputation for xenophobia and racism, for attempting to capitalize on terrorist attacks to advance his political career, and for spreadingfalse information. [sic]
Nearly seven years since he vacated his House seat, little has changed. A month ago, Hoekstra was confirmed by the U.S. Senate, on a voice vote, to be Donald Trump’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, his birthplace. Already, he has been caught in multiple lies by a Dutch journalist.
At a 2015 conference hosted by the pro-Islamaphobia David Horowitz Freedom Center, Hoekstra made false claims that some parts of the Netherlands were so dominated by Muslim extremists that non-Muslims could not even safely enter those communities — “no-go zones” — and that these extremists were actually setting fire to politicians. Many Dutch citizens have expressed concern about having a U.S. Ambassador who spread such completely false Islamaphobic conspiracy theories.
Dang! I didn’t know the Republican Reich sent Hoekstra to the Netherlands. Now I understand why Lona is leaving!! RESIST!!

Robert Reich: Great video, says it all. I honestly hope Americans will take on his credo next year: Lets make 2018 the year we begin to take back America. Good Luck!
HuPo: Australia very disappointingly but not unsurprisingly abstained from voting, with PM Turnbull afraid to make waves in his own government. To my surprise and delight the Dutch government voted in favor and against Drumpf; the Dutch have really had it with America as do most in the EU. Netanyahu’s quick trip through Europe didn’t do much to change that. It’s sad to see that up to a point Drumpf’s bullying tactics worked here too as far as a larger number of abstainers is concerned. His bullying looks rather pathetic when it comes to the poor countries that voted against the resolution. They are so small and insignificant that Google Maps has a tough time locating them and they are sadly almost completely dependent on American financial support.
TP: As I’ve commented above, The Dutch have really had it with America and Drumpf in particular. Appointing Piet Hoekstra as ambassador is a slap in the face of the Dutch government, but it hardly felt it because it had turned its face away already. Hoekstra as a diplomat will most likely be ignored as much as possible and have little to do in The Netherlands except drinking coffee with Geert Wilders, our local Islamaphobic populist and buddy of Drumpf. After the elections last year Wilders has become rather irrelevant, but Drumpf wouldn’t have picked up on that. He probably appointed Hoekstra to please his friend who, at the time they met and talked, firmly believed he would become the PM of Holland.
But Drumpf isn’t interested in a diplomat stationed in Holland, he’s sent Hoekstra over as businessman who as a Dutchman has made it in the US. His real mission is selling a handful of Drumpf towers and golf courses, that’s all.

Robert Reich — AMEN!!! I have to agree with JD — “The Reich on the left drew it correctly.” Every time I use ‘right’, I am at odds with myself looking for another word.
Huff Post — When I first heard that Canada abstained, I was incredulous. But that was for several reasons — the NAFTA negotiations are going on; and Canada believes that the status of Jerusalem should be determined through negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis. Drumpf has just told Israel that it is OK to unilaterally declare Jerusalem its capital and expropriate the city, just like it is expropriating Palestinian lands for Israeli settlements. Is Drumpf interfering in the internal politics of another nation as the Russians interfered in the 2016 election?
Think Progress — Un-freakin’-believable! I remember Hoekstra all too well (Sen Debbie Stabenow defeated him in 2012 in a Hoekstra-nasty campaign) and call sending him to the Netherlands a gift to Geert Wilders and an “act of war”. The Netherlands should expel Hoekstra just like the US expelled some of the Russians under Obama, if that is possible given that the Netherlands is his place of birth. That he has been called a liar by journalists is no surprise. He is a perfect fit for Drumpf — xenophobic and generally detestable to the core.
